Burger One now has a new owner and after a quick refresh, is called Burgers & Tacos. The place is still small w/ just a counter along the wall to eat at. I tried the breakfast burger deluxe and added bacon, and it was at least an 8 oz diner sized burger, cooked medium as ordered. Any space left over in the tin was stuffed w/ French fries. Lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles made it deluxe. The burger was good, hot, and filling. The whole platter could've fed me for the day or finishing it one sitting would be the perfect cure for insomnia. They're also have agua frescas which are refreshing and milkshakes which also made me want to take a nap afterwards. The staff are friendly, efficient and well skilled in turning out lots of food quickly. I'm glad this place is still here and still serving the workers and people in the neighborhood at a reasonable price. read more

I went there to have an omelet and coffee today around 3:00 PM, but the 2 Mexican guys behind the counter said they weren't serving that in the afternoon. The burger tasted good and was cooked to my specifications, but very greasy. Heading home I hadn't been on the bus more than 10 minutes when my stomach told me I had made a mistake. I desperately thought through at which stop I could get off to go to a restaurant known to me so that I could get some relief. I barely made it. Then, on another bus heading home, I barely made it past my front door. This is a tiny, hole-in-the wall with about 8 counter seats and a grill behind the counter. It is not a comfortable place to dine in. I sat looking at a glass partition holding burger rolls. It also isn't that clean. I noticed dust on the outside of the section holding the rolls; the floor wasn't clean; and the tiny restroom was filthy. The sign said it was for employees only, but they let me use it. The guys behind the counter were very casual and somewhat disinterested about everything. I guess their job must be pretty boring. The napkins are miniscule and in an old-fashioned counter container and, when I asked for silverware, I got plastic. This place is definitely the opposite of fine dining. Burger 1 is a familiar business name to me. I never tried it because I thought it was just burgers. I've seen this Taco place for years and years. It's very small inside and the scaffolding hides it. I didn't know it was Burger 1. I've been passing by recently and today when my lunch plan fell through I went in for Taco Tuesday. It's really like an old school Mom and Pop place. I could order my tacos anyway I wanted. I eat very plain and the spice in the pork was just enough zip for me. I added American Cheese and shredded lettuce. The tacos were double shells of corn. Still, I do drop in here once in a while on the way to work for an egg white sandwich on toasted whole wheat and a tasty cup of coffee for less than $5. The guys who work here are pretty friendly and will work with you on specific requests. They have around 15 burger options, and about double the amount of wraps, so there is something for everyone's tastes here. From street level you have to walk up to get into this place, and it never seems to busy when I have been here. The menu is blown up and plastered on the front of the place so you can get an idea of what they offer. Harder than I thought though as I headed towards Shake Shack (and then turned the other way when I realised there were at least 50 people queuing outside) - using Yelp I found this place just on the other side of the Park and rushed across as quickly as possible. As well as kick ass burgers, they also do a range of Mexican street food like tacos - everything is rustic but good quality, with only about enough seating for around 8 people inside. The cheese burger I had with avocado, grilled onions and pickles was simply incredibly juicy, flavoursome, fresh and filling. Just what I was after and for $12 pretty good value. The only downside is they tend to close faiy early - on weekends you have to order before around 6ish. We usually get a New York burger (one each) and make it a deluxe - for 2.50$ extra on top of the regular burger price, you get lettuce, tomatoes and a decent side order of fries. The fries are my favorite part - very potatoes. Sometimes they do get the temperature of the burger wrong - I usually like mine medium well to well done but one time got a medium burger with pink inside - just plopped it into the microwave and got rid of the pink. Nice cozy burger place on Lexington near the 77th St stop on the 6 line. Credit cards are accepted, and I believe they also deliver food for people who use Seamless. I got the Mexican cheeseburger because the place is known for being both a burger place and a Mexican place. You can get a regular burger for ~$5 or get the deluxe for a little over $8, which gives you all the veggies on the burger. The size of the patty was nice, about an inch thick, but it's not seasoned at all, not even with salt or pepper. All of the flavor comes from the toppings that you get on the burger.
