Fantastic service. Love the music and they got that dart board though. Clean restrooms too!

However, during our most recent visit, we noticed quite a few changes from previous years, and unfortunately, not all for the better. They no longer have the scenic hayride that used to include a free donut and a cup of apple cider with your ticket purchase. Now, it's $5 per person, and instead of a peaceful scenic ride, it stops at every station and they no longer give you a donut & cider with ticket purchase. When we asked about the change, we were told it was because they weren't making money off the old setup. I understand businesses need to adjust, but it really took away from the experience. That scenic ride with the cider and donut was always one of the highlights for us ; something we truly looked forward to every year. They did add more bouncy houses for the kids, which is nice, but the ones they had before were just as fun. The food was about the same, decent, but nothing special. It was noticeably more expensive this year. $5 for a single ear of corn felt excessive. On the positive side, the cinnamon donuts are still amazing, and the apple cider is as delicious as ever. I also enjoyed the wine tasting, which is always fun, though seating is still limited and could be improved. Overall, the visit just didn't have the same charm or warmth as before. We still had an okay time, but it didn't feel as memorable as past years. Sadly, I think this might be our last year visiting, we'll probably look for a new orchard next fall.

The apple smashing began eleven years later. The huge building you enter today was constructed in 1894 when the business focused primarily on cider production. So many changes over the years...yet many things remain intact. Was Harry Yates responsible for starting the tradition of donuts and cider back in the 1930's? Today These days you'll be able to buy Frankenmuth Fudge, Zak & Mac's chocolates and Posey's hot dogs and snacks, all at Yates. They've also added a small petting farm. The list of Yates products has expanded well beyond just donuts. Today, we bought a 1/2 peck of our favourite apples, the honeycrisp, as well as Aged Bourbon syrup, applesauce, pickles, hard candy for the grandkids and even a cool sweatshirt. Cider prep Somewhere along the line they changed their processing to UV light treating which pretty much obliterates the mother at the bottom of the jug and has a definite effect on the overall taste. So to confirm our suspicions we bought a half gallon (with donuts, of course). We were right. Nature trails? There are three immediate trails ranging from 1 to 1-1/2 mile loops We spent an hour on their Railroad Trail a.k.a. The Yates Trail. A mile long walking loop. With plenty of colour. Nothing like a walk with nature. Parking has always been a challenge. There is an overflow across the road. Mostly it's just a matter of patience. Pro Tip: Try to come on a weekday morning. Weekends in the fall are filled with families. The staff was hurried but cordial, as usual. We've always found long lines here. So that's to be expected. The bees were down significantly this year so it was a highly successful day! 10/25
