I hope their lunch menu is good because the dinner menu is lacking. We tried the Ukrainian Stroganov and the Pepperoni Rigatoni, both were bland and were almost inedible. My husband and I decided to try the restaurant upon recommendation from friends. So glad we did! I had the Chicken Coconut Curry (CCC) soup and it was really good! All ingredients were fresh. Hubby had Clam Chowder, which he said was good, but he liked my CCC better. My Mediterranean wrap was fresh and tasty. He really enjoyed the beef brisket Sammy. So fresh!! If it was possible- I would give this place 10 stars. Just.. the absolute best staff and vibes. Was it busy because we came peak fall season? Yes. Was it worth it? Ten fold. I originally discovered Baynes at Blake's cider days festival- and loved the ciders. After recommending this place to all my co workers for months, I finally made my way up here. I could kick myself for waiting so long. The baked goods? Amazing. From cookies, to donuts.. just amazing. My favorite part is this establishment sells and promotes Michigan products. So I was able to purchase my favorite products from northern and western Michigan. The food.. epic. Just- so good. The spirits? All Michigan craft spirits, beers and ciders. Highly suggest Baynes peach cider.. the best cider we had of the day! Special shoutout to Ava our server.. even though she was SO just.. she stayed sweet and wonderful. We will be back. Grew up going to Baynes every fall when we would visit my grandparents, so I have many fond memories of the place. Their apple cider donuts have always been the best in my mind. Have looked for the same deliciousness near home for years but not quite matches it. Was passing through the area last week heading up north and stopped for some donuts. Just as amazing as always. I really don't have a whole lot to say about this cider mill. When we stopped in it was extremely busy. I didn't get to try the hard cider but did have the regular cider. Did not taste as good as others I have had. We got the apple cinnamon roll kinda dry and nothing special. It might be a great stop I just wasn't feeling it. read more

Always a must stop shop when visiting from out of town. You can find homemade treats as well as local Michigan favorites. We come for the cider which has never disappointed. I'd recommend getting a flight so you can sample a few. If you like one, you can always fill up a growler to go! So I've been enjoying Baynes for the last 16 years, for as long as I've known my husband he's been taking me there. 10 years ago we moved from Colorado to Michigan and I was stoked knowing I could get a Baynes fix whenever I wanted! We've gone multiple times a year over the last 10 years - and Baynes season has always been one of the best times of year to us! Today however has made me feel like I never want to go back there. Drove past and noticed their sign that they have pre made gift baskets available. How perfect! I've been looking for something for the young lady who cleans my mother in laws house, and who wouldn't love a gift basket from Baynes. Stopped by on my way back by - walked around the store for a bit, checking out the various baskets and making sure to grab a carmel apple for the husband. Finally spotted a basket that wasn't huge, and also didn't include any alcohol (it seemed like the majority did have an alcoholic item in them). Went to the register to pay and while the woman looked for the price tag, a young man shouted across the store - asking her if that was the such and such basket (honestly didn't catch what he called it) she looks and says yes, he says that's for the raffle. What bothered me at this point was not that something was obviously placed in a location it shouldn't have been (auction basket clearly shouldn't be on the sales floor with other baskets), because people make mistakes - no big deal. Nope, what brothered me was the complete lack of customer service or initiative from either employee. The guy who yelled from across the store quickly went back to chatting it up with his buddy at the bar, and the cashier was like oh ok. Seriously???? I was clearly prepared to spend at least minimum of $50 there (based on basic gift basket pricing) and the store was not busy, so it's not like they had other people waiting (except for said "buddy" at the bar - who was obviously the priority customer. Maybe he was someone very important?). Neither employee felt compelled to offer to help me find another basket or ask if I wanted to go look for another, or even potentially (since this is a service they offer) ask if I'd be interested in a custom basket, OR (and this is the kick in the pants right here for me) offer an apology. Mistakes happen. I'm cool with that. What's not ok is having employees who are not willing to admit there was a mistake made, and attempt to make it right. I went ahead and purchased the carmel apple for my husband, but doubt if I will ever return to Baynes - especially considering the abundance of other stores in the area to purchase the same things. We were slightly interested in the cafe food but they were setting up some private indoor event and nobody really said anything when we walked over to the counter, so we didn't bother. I wish I could give Bayne's an award for superior customer service. I used to live in Midland and came here once a season or every other, but it's been years since my last visit. We drove up the Saturday after Thanksgiving to find the owners and their family decorating Christmas trees around the property. I wanted to show my girlfriend the Cidermill and as we walked over the owner, Shawn, promptly offered to unlock it for us and walk us around. He gave us a warm and thorough explanation of how the cider is pressed and took us through their storage facilities, too. It was quite a tour and very nostalgic for me. He thanked us for coming and walked us to the entrance of the store. We went to the deli counter and ordered two donuts, the girl behind the counter offered to warm them up for us and brought us fresh, hot donuts and cider (I hate to spoil it for you, but if you come here, you'll be ruined--this is the best cider/donut combo you're ever going to experience this side of heaven. It will never get better than this.) Numerous employees welcomed us very genuinely and we felt so welcome. The menu was expansive and everything was super affordable (two hot ciders, four donuts in the deli plus another dozen donuts and a quart of cider to go for under $15!!). This place was really cute. My sister and I went here for lunch and it was awesome - I was so happy I chose the white chicken chili! After I ate I already wanted more. The warm apple cider was also pretty good to eat while walking around and looking at everything in the store. Reading past reviews really did some injustice to the food served here. The marinated chicken salad with Michigan cherries on a croissant was a huge hit by my wife as ND I. The roasted pumpkin apple soup was scarfed down before I could take a photo of my friend's delight. She loved it. We 40+ surprised the staff with our presence, we didn't intend to eat here but the fiasco at a Midland forest area's limited "cafe" ran out of food. Was looking for breakfast. I stopped in here and they had Hot and Cold Fresh Pressed Apple Cider. I had the cold and really enjoyed it. I also had Two Apple Cider donuts, one cinnamon and one regular (because there is nothing plain about it). I think I liked the regular better, but you should probably choose for yourself. Only reason we came was for an apple cinnamon roll! Luckily got the last one and it was delicious. It seemed the apple chunks were towards the middle of the roll instead of throughout. The frosting however was just thick enough . We also purchased a Carmel apple cookie which was moist and seemed to have a maple flavor instead of carmel and frosted oatmeal raisin cookies. These were delicious with just the right amount of frosting. We didn't pay too much attention to the happenings outside but it seemed to be a place for families with children. Service was adequate, nothing spectacular but friendly. Prices are tad high but for the specific items they have it was ok. read more

We occasionally visit Bayne's...the cider and baked goods, especially the pies, are very good, and Bayne's also has a little in-store restaurant where you can pick up a decent lunch (with, of course, cider -- cold or hot -- and a slice of pie). What we found disappointing was learning that this "farm" actually gets their apples from elsewhere. And we get tired of supposedly down-home, yay-country-life stores filled with made-in-China "country" tschotchkes. We actually prefer Leaman's, the "old-skool," real apple farm just west of town (follow the signs); it's just more laid-back and mom-and-pop, and less congested. Bayne's gets crazy busy on fall weekends, and sometimes it's just not enjoyable being inside because of the crowd. (The parking can also get challenging...not a lot of parking space.) If you're doing an "apple tour" this fall that includes the Freeland area I'd recommend that you visit both businesses just to compare/contrast. read more

My boyfriend is a local so he was excited to take me to Bayne's to try the apple cider donuts. Unfortunately on our first visit the donuts were dry.. just not very good. I'm happy to say that our second and most recent trip there yielded a half dozen delicious sugared apple cider donuts. I also got a chocolate-and-peanut coated donut and that was good too. The ladies working there are friendly and do their best to be efficient. The shop itself is too big for what it is and they just seem to be trying to fill the space with tchotchkes; they have everything from women's clothing and jewelry to childrens' books to hot sauces to dip mixes. Just concentrate on the apples, maybe bottle some of your cider so it's readily available. We unfortunately didn't see any cider on this past visit so we couldn't buy any. read more

I always hate when something wonderfully nostalgic doesn't turn out how it was remembered. This is one of those things. I was in town visiting family and wanted my husband to experience a Midwest cider mill. Sadly, it wasn't up to expectation. No apples being pressed, no donuts being made, nothing. Just a store that sold these things, and other trinkets. We saw some cider being poured into containers, but from where it came from we'll never know- certainly not the few small apple trees that apparently dot the property for decoration. There's a lot to choose from at this location. Everything looked delicious. There's a assortment of candy apple toppings to choose from, which is cool. My only problem is the pricing. We got a bag of kettle corn twice as big of not bigger for 5 bucks at Erwin's, here they wanted 8 dollars for a much smaller bag! Candy apples dipped in different flavors ranged from about 4-7 dollars! Seems a bit high. Sometimes I feel like orchards take advantage of people because we only get these foods seasonally so they charge more. Adjust pricing and this orchard would be a 5 star. read more

I have grown up going to Bayne's ever since I was a little kid. I would beg my dad growing up for the huge cookies and cider donuts. When I was out of state in college, fall was not the same without Baynes donuts so I made the drive just to bring them back to my classmates. Those things have not changed and the new owners have brought so many new and amazing features to a staple in the community. The cider tasting, patio, and igloos have made this a spot for all people to come to, discover, and enjoy. I look forward to what else they bring! read more
