And parking is generous. I was there Sunday early evening late September. They had 54 flavors to choose from in the form of shakes, sundaes, in cones or in a cup. I had mint chocolate chip and orange pineapple in a cup. The ice cream was creamy and flavorful. Although the orange pineapple didn't quite taste like it used to. While visiting Saginaw, we were told to go to Mooney's for some local ice cream. This definitely seemed like a popular spot since the line was almost out the door when we showed up around 7ish. If i could review this place negative stars, I would. I have lived in Saginaw my whole life when Mooney's had different owners when things ran smoothly. This was my first time visiting this new location and disappointed is an understatement. We waited in line for around 30 minutes which I understand it's the holiday weekend, of course it's going to be busy but that was not the issue.There were four workers there but yet only two would be out while the line was OUT THE DOOR while the other two would disappear and leave the other two to fend for themselves. They were not in a rush at all, they were taking their time as if they did not have any other customers to help. Not to mention I would hear the manager make side comments to the employees that did not seem nice at all. None of them knew what they were doing, took at least 5 minutes to scoop one ice cream. Our favorite ice cream spot. Huge portions and rich flavor. No nickel and diming with waffle cones and such. Add the great customer service and this place is a real winner. The Mackinac Island Fudge is better than you get on the Island or other Northern Michigan parlors. And Mooney's made Blue Moon famous for a good reason. Yesterday I purchased a baby ice cream at Mooney's which comes with two flavors. I am not sure why the person behind the counter mistook it for two separate ice creams. He then charged me double the price even though I repeatedly said that I wanted just one. He then went on to loudly shout at me explaining the math that he charged for two ice creams based on what I wanted. It was a clear mis communication but the way he raised his voice in front of the entire store was very rude and condescending. The person should respect customers and be patient rather than create a scene and embarrass them. It was a trivial issue which could have been resolved in a professional manner. I went to get some ice cream at 10 min to nine. On the front of the building, it stated that no more then 10 people in the store at a time. There were already over 15 people not listening to the big ass sign that says no more then 10 people in the store at a time. So, there were 3 other customers that said they had been there for 10 mins before us patiently waiting outside until the number of people gets down less then 10 in the store. I have been going here every since I could remember, it was a go-to place after any sports match or celebrated accomplishment and I'm glad to know I can still come back to it when I go home. Nostalgia aside, I'm still amazed at the amount of ice cream you can get for a reasonable price. I don't think I've ever gotten more than a baby cup because that's usually plenty. They've started having the option of getting a half baby because the serving sizes are so big. The staff is always very helpful and are welcoming to people getting half and half flavors in a baby size or above if you're indecisive like me. I got the superman ice cream in a baby cup, and my dad got a half baby cup of peanut butter Mackinac Island fudge. While it's true that they only take cash, they definitely make sure you get a bang for you buck! I went in the winter, so it wasn't very busy, but be aware that the line is usually out the door on most of the nice summer days. Even so, they have a system down, so you usually aren't waiting too long. After the decimation of Thrifty's ice-cream in my hometown, I never thought I'd be able to buy affordable ice-cream by the scoop. I WAS WRONG!!! Thank you Saginaw. Mooney's is a small shop that serves ice-cream, shakes, ice-cream cake, etc. The only thing's I've ever ordered are scoops of ice-cream and shakes (for a friend). Inside the store are several tables and booths in case you actually want to sit down and enjoy the ice-cream immediately after purchase. During the holidays, the entire store (inside and out) is decorated. Thanksgiving saw a swarm of Turkeys and other thanksgiving artifacts. For Christmas, snow globes, indoor christmas tree, outdoor blow-up rotating igloo, etc. You have your option of waffle cone or cup. There are also 4 or 5 sizes which range from $1 (I think) to $3.50 for a quart? Not quite sure. I just remember that it's affordable. The banana chocolate shake has received great reviews from my friends. Personally, I'm not a fan of chocolate (although there is an exception. See below) although I understand that this particular combination (along with peanut butter) is heaven for your tongue. There's an option to use either chocolate or vanilla ice-cream. Other than that, an unknown amount of banana (I'm assuming half) and other ingredients are necessary for creating liquid euphoria. I'm normally a vanilla ice-cream person. I've tried other flavors but for some reason, vanilla always sticks out. Mackinaw Island fudge (chocolate with caramel and chocolate chunks) was too rich. Rainbow sherbert too tart. However, I found that the chocolate and almond ice-cream was very tasty, primarily because of the different textures of cream and almonds. Waitresses (no waiters other than Mr. Mooney himself) are VERY easy on the eyes. Also very friendly. Recommendation: EAT! read more

Husband and I split a baby size Mackinac Island Fudge. Similar portions to Ray's down in Royal Oak, but the consistency was richer and creamier. Personally prefer Ray's over this place, but the flavor was nice. The small chunks of fudge mixed in was the right size and wasn't overwhelming in the mouth. Priced at $2.50 for the baby size, it was cheaper than Ray's. I'd come back next time I was in the area for another function, and I think it's a nice treat if you are in the area, but if you're impatient, don't bother coming here during warm weather. read more
