I was absolutely shocked to discover that the stout was one of my favorites, with that dark chocolate finish. All of the beers were really good, just a bit filling. Today I sampled the French dip and a slice of pizza, and both of those were absolutely fantastic. Had the calamari again, and everyone agreed that it was pretty much the best ever. Service last night was very good, our server took care to explain the food and drink options as well as answering any questions. He was very attentive and friendly. I went with a large group for lunch today and our server was excellent, she nailed every order and was friendly and quite attentive. Large groups can be a hassle, but she handled it excellently. It was an exquisite experience from start to end. Bae who was our server was attentive, knowledgeable, warm, the consummate professional. The setting was beautiful with gorgeous photos (for sale) of wildlife including many adorable bears in the wild. The food was so delicious, I'm still thinking about it. Our party of 7 ordered a variety of items so I fortunately had a taste of a lot of different dishes: I don't usually drink but saw ice wine on the menu so had a delicious glass of the Kiona - 5/5 Appetizers - bread board - 5/5, focaccia sliced and generous servings of two spreads (maybe white bean hummus? something else?), roasted garlic in olive oil, red and green grapes, assorted nuts. this really raised the bar on what a bread board should be! - roasted rainbow harissa carrots - 5/5, a generous pile of roasted carrots of many colors, on a generous bed of spicy labneh (and I don't even like carrots that much) - crispy polenta - 5/5, a sizeable rectangular portion of crispy polenta topped with oven dried tomato, goat cheese, sherried cream sauce, with generous sides of sauteed mushrooms, sauteed spinach. This was an incredible dish and can see why they offer it with chicken because that would make for a tasty entree Entrees - grilled shrimp green curry with udon noodles (special) - 5/5, this was such an outstanding dish. Five generous grilled shrimp on skewers on top of the large bowl of udon noodles and bok choy. Super yum. Everyone else enjoyed their dishes, including the pan roasted halibut, the miso glazed cod, one of the salads (the large is VERY large). Dessert - crème brûlée with berries, candied walnuts, thyme - 4/5 solid offering - mascarpone cheesecake with sliced strawberries and blueberries - 5*/5 I'm not usually a cheesecake fan but this was so light and fluffy it was delicious and I love that the berries were not just a garnish but more generous portions - baked alaska - chocolate cake, gelato, chocolate ganache, meringue - 3/5, this was the only disappointing item of the evening. If you're in Alaska and baked alaska is on the menu, it should be the classic baked alaska and if the menu says it has meringue, it shouldn't be marshmallow fluff instead. 'nuff said. I made two visits to this establishment within a single week, both times arriving late in downtown after attending a performance and seeking sustenance. Notably, it was one of the few venues that remained open at such a late hour. During my initial visit, I met a friend and we opted for a limited selection of drinks, oysters, and dessert. On the second occasion, I dined with my husband, and we ordered a range of drinks and food. My husband enjoyed a beer. The tacos were notable for their flavorful and fresh ingredients, while the calamari was especially delectable. The cioppino, although comprising a diverse array of seafood, might have benefited from being paired with additional bread. I ordered oysters on both nights, and while they were fresh, they were somewhat small. Fortunately, our server, Adam, provided consistently friendly and courteous service throughout both visits. Given the late hour of my second visit, I did observe that the preparation time for the cioppino was slightly longer. During my first visit, I also had the pleasure of enjoying a delicious cocktail. I was surprised by the high level of noise and activity on a Thursday upon my arrival, and notably, it remained bustling on Friday at nearly midnight. The establishment's ambiance effectively captures the essence of Alaska. Based on my experiences, I would recommend this venue and intend to return. read more
