Let's be honest. I don't have a whole lot of business heading into a store called "Fleet Feet." I kind of wanted to go in and immediately proclaim "Fleet Feet - meet No Feet." I resisted the urge. In all seriousness, or at least as serious as I can be in what is essentially a shoe store, I was wheeling by Fleet Feet while handling an errand in this Broad Ripple Strip Center where Fleet Feet exists. Fleet Feet is a chain that started in 1976 in Sacramento, CA. There are six locations in Indiana - Broad Ripple, Carmel, Fort Wayne, Greenwood, Fishers, and West Lafayette. One of the Fleet Feet slogans is All People. All Paces. Always. I love this and embrace it as someone who has tremendous endurance but almost no speed (Fun fact about this Yelper: I have the official slowest time ever recorded for the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. I'm actually the reason there's a time limit now.). And yes, that means one year when I was on crutches, I came in dead last. But, I finished. This location is fairly accessible. There are accessible parking spots along the strip, curb cuts (though not really directly in front of Fleet Feet), and the single-sided glass door is pretty workable. The store's layout is wheelchair friendly. As I noted, the emphasis here is on shoes. However, I was wheeling by and saw a shirt I really liked. So, I decided to visit. The employee was friendly and helpful, though my uniquely shaped body needs a larger size than was available. That said, we had a good conversation about local events and I got the chance to check out a variety of supplies. In case you're wondering, I did not try on the shoes. There's much to love here, though with a slogan that includes "All People," I can't help but wish there was at least a little acknowledgement of wheelchair athletes here. It's a minor quibble, but as someone who gets out on the trails a lot it's important to me. That said, I'd easily return when I'm getting ready for my next event. They have some cool shirts, hydration/energy supplies, and more. Oh, and yeah, they have shoes. read more

Today is #ThankYouThursday and I'm super thankful for Fleet Feet! I bought my first pair of running shoes in middle school from a store just like this in South Bend. When Nike stopped making their Structures that I'd been running in for 20 years, I turned to Fleet Feet to find a new pair. They hooked me up with ASICS GT-2000's in May 2021 and ASICS Gel Kayanos last week. Both have been excellent recommendations. Fleet Feet does a fantastic job. They always welcome you in, ask questions about what you're looking for, and have recommendations for great shoes or gear. I won't go anywhere else for my running shoes. read more

This is now Fleet Feet. They were bought out by a larger company. Everything seems to be the same. The return policy has changed but for the better! They are still thorough. This is such a tricky review to write. I absolutely loved Blue Mile when it was independently owned, and had been coming here for years. Once they were purchased by a big out of state company, all of the employees who knew all of us "regulars" were gone, and the low-key group runs on Saturday morning and weeknights were replaced by a $100 per-race running program. My first trip back after the big takeover was just OK; they brought out a pair of the same shoes I was wearing, without asking if I wanted to try anything new, and just seemed to lack enthusiasm. The second visit was really disappointing. The salesperson who waited on me didn't seem to know much about the shoes I was currently wearing, which I had purchased at the store, and didn't know how the new version, that she was trying to sell me, differed from the old version. I ended up just buying them because I was in a hurry, and they were not great; there were some big changes between the old and new versions and they didn't quite work for me, but it was outside of the 30 day return period, so I stuck with them. I was not planning to go back, and was going to try a different chain instead, but had a $20 credit from previous purchases...so...having a hard time letting the $20 go...I decided to give them one last try with the thought that if the sales staff was the same as the last visit, I would leave, not worry about the $20, and take my business elsewhere. Well, this was better....they were very busy, but the salesperson who worked with me did actually seem to know the products, and seemed to understand the issue I was having with the shoes I had been wearing and was able to explain why I was likely having the problem. The new shoes he recommended do seem to be better than the old ones so far. So....am waiting to see if this last visit is the new normal, or if this was just the good day...may give them another try now based on the most recent visit. They also might want to consider letting people come to the group runs again without being in the formal training program...we did buy stuff when we were there to run...I'm just saying...got us all in their store every week.... read more

Great experience Saturday 10am. Requested help finding correct shoe fit for my new orthotics (plantar fasciitis). Shoes selected for my foot shape and condition were selected. I've got mixed feelings. On the positive, they have most all your running needs in one place, shoes, clothes, water bottles, hats, shirts, shorts, socks, GPS and electronic doo-dads, electrolyte and glucose supplements, etc. The negative is that it's rather pricey here. I also give them props for their treadmill and video setup which records and analyzes your running gait. Yes, there are noticeable and verifiable "gaits" that people have when they run or walk, such as "pronating". But I just can't get past the prices. Granted, I'm a cheapy. I'm a K-mart, Aldi's, Big Lots, Harbor Freight kind of guy. When I feel like splurging, I go to Wal-Mart, or Tuesday Morning. Please be nice: don't go here to use their consulting services and expert advice if you plan to buy elsewhere. If you get your gait analyzed here, then by all means, buy your shoes here. Running/jogging is a trendy thing nowadays, and for any popular trend, there are going to be businesses wanting to make a buck off the popularity. If you're a "high performance" kind of runner, yes, you can benefit from the "top-tier" stuff they offer here, and have the convenience of shopping for it all under one roof. But I'll drive around to save hundreds of dollars on stuff that's "almost as good." read more

Stopped by the Running Company to pick up some running shoes. This was my first time buying dedicated shoes-- I was tired of the crappy off-brand running shoes I had used before. The first thing they did was put me on a treadmill with a camera, did a gait analysis, and within 5 minutes, the salesperson had 6 pairs of shoes that fit my size/width/gait. The salesperson was very patient with me and did not try to upsell. He let me try on each pair and I soon found the shoes that were the most comfortable and supportive. Overall, a really painless experience for a running/fitness newbie such as myself. read more

This place was so helpful! I have never had anyone explain which type of running shoes would work best for my body. The staff was super friendly from the start. They asked me leading questions as to what I am looking for and what the shoes would be used for. For example you would need different shoes for running vs cross fit training. Anyways, right when you get there they have you walk and run. While you are walking or running they are looking at the ways your feet move, your ankles rotate, or any other movements that would effect your shoe choice. Once they have a good idea of how your feet move and rotate they bring out multiple choices (I had 5 different types and brands) to try on and walk around in. At the end of the day it was super helpful to get the advice and know what shoes I need. Unfortunately they only had one color and it was NOT my style. This is a great place. Very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Plus, I'm just getting into running so i'm a bit overweight, but they never made me feel like it the store. Positive and encouraging; too often these types of store like to lecture and advise. The guy said that the shoes are $65 to $180, and any serious runner will tell you that $100 bucks for a pair of running shoes is right on spot. Yeah, you can get them much much cheeper but they are usually the low end shoe. I paid $130 (about $30 more than I wanted to spend) but they are the best feeling shoes I have ever had.... It's all about the padding and support. My old shoes i got for $30 at Marshall's gave me runners knee, so, yeah, worth it. The video gate analysis is really great if you get knee pain; I know this because they have pamphlets from St. Vincent's that say so in the store. I would't buy my cheap running shorts there or electronics, but winter gear, shoes, and accessories... Blue Mile is my spot. Also, if you spend $250, you get a $25 credit. That not really a big deal until you find out that you don't need to send $250 at once; they let you add it up. I like it. I've been here two different times, both looking for running shoes and expertise on running shoes. I have quite small feet, so I usually end up buying children's shoes because 1- they fit me; 2- they're significantly cheaper; and 3- all running shoes are a bit crazy in colors and styles anyway, so might as well! The first time I came here (a few years ago), I had great service and luck. I found a great pair of shoes that lasted me quite some time and went through 5Ks to hiking and everything in between. The employee helped observe my gait to make sure the shoe was correct, I ran on the treadmill so he could monitor my gait, and he even convinced me to purchase another product (something that usually never happens thanks to my stingy self). The second time I came here (a week ago or so), I felt like the service lacked significantly compared to my first time. I walked in, there were 3-5 employees just standing around, but it was the most awkward experience ever. No one really said anything, but everyone stared as I walked in with a couple of strangers. I had to go up and ask for help. Sadly, they didn't have anything in stock, so my trip was short and unsuccessful. I usually like this place because of their service, but it's been 50/50 so far. I have been purchasing my walking/athletic shoes at the Blue Mile for several years and until today I would have rated my experience 4+ stars. Today I arrived as they opened and was promptly greeted. I told the staff member I was looking to replace my current shoes which I had wore in to the store. He glanced at my feet, asked my size and said he was headed to the back to get shores. He came out a minute or two later and said they were out of my size but brought the size above and below, he opened the boxes and handed me the shoes which I put on. I walked around the store a bit and decided to buy. What I found disappointing was on past visits they used to bring out a couple of options for me to try, the staff member would watch how I walked and checked the fit of the shoe. I'm a very inexperienced runner, but I've decided to start running. In the process I developed plantar fasciitis and I decided it was time to buy the appropriate shoe for my foot and gait. They didn't do the video analysis, but it's not really necessary. The staff ended up finding a shoe that takes most of my pain away and fits the rest of my foot comfortably and is perfect for my stride. Unfortunately, the shoe is really ugly but I'm not running to be fashionable. I browsed a little bit of the store and I was surprised to see sports bras in larger sizes. I didn't buy any because they're really expensive, but now I know which brands to look for. I'll definitely be back. read more

Bought a pair of running capris about three weeks ago at the Blue Mile's big tent sale. Pretty good deal for the caliber of pants at $27. It wasn't till I got home and put them on again that I noticed two holes on the side of the right leg. Finally had time to drive out there again today, and they took great care of me. Found another pair of capris, and am hoping they work for my marathon next month. Although they said if the capris don't feel right, to bring them back and we'll exchange again or get a refund. If you are going to be a runner, high quality running clothes, which Blue Mile has, are a must to reduce chaffing and blisters. Spend the money, it's worth it. Visited this location on a Saturday morning to find a new pair of running shoes. Now, I run a lot, and have an idea of what shoes to buy... But if I didn't want help, I would shop online. None of the workers seemed to have any interest in helping me find a new shoe. Even after looking around for about 10 minutes, still no further help. I could understand a busy morning, but there were multiple employees standing around chatting. In today's age of the availability of online shopping, it is really imperative for stores like this to up the game in fit and observation of a runner. Fantastic customer service. I was asked what type of surfaces I run on, average distance, and if I had any ailments when running. Based on that, I had 3 options to pick from and test out on the treadmill in the store. After testing out a couple more pairs based on my feedback, I ended up buying the first pair that was suggested to me. I will definitely be back for my next pair. read more

Bleep blop blorp! That's the noise I would make if I were a robot. I am not a robot, therefore I don't need robot shoes. "Jason, what the hell are you talking about?" Good question Alex (I'm calling all of you Alex by the way), what i mean by i don't need robot shoes is i need shoes tailored to me, not the masses. No they aren't going to custom build you shoes, but they will watch your walk and analyze it to make sure that you're getting the correct shoes for your stride or to help improve your stride. Very helpful staff. Decent selection of shoes and clothes. They don't really try to push products on you that you don't want, and i'm 97% sure they're not robots either. read more

Can't say enough great things about this place. The employees are knowledgable and really will spend as much of their time with you as you need to help you pick the right shoe. I've gotten my last three pairs of running shoes here, and since I run road races semi-frequently, it is important that I know I have a reliable shoe under my feet. I never have any doubt when I've gotten a shoe from the Blue Mile. The first time you come here, it may seem a little intimidating to run on a treadmill in front of a stranger - don't be scared! They'll do a video analysis and help you pick the right shoe for your foot shape and stride. The great thing is that once you do this once, they have your info saved in the system. So the next time you come in, they can quickly give you shoe suggestions from a variety of high quality brands. Plus, they have lots of fun colors! Make no mistake about it though, this isn't Dick's or DSW, so expect to pay full price for your shoes. I am not a runner; I stick to the Arch Trainer. However, as someone who always has athletic aches and pains, I visited the Blue Mile to take advantage of their decent selection of self-myofascial release tools. Translated, this means foam rollers, Trigger Point products, and massage sticks. Before my visit, I called to make sure that they carried the product for which I was looking. The associate with whom I spoke seemed very knowledgeable, and he was very willing to assist me. When I arrived at the store, I was politely greeted, and was immediately shown to the section of the store which met my interest. Needless to say, I was able to find "The Stick," which was the exact item I needed. They had various other items for the chronically sore, and I was lucky to escape with only one thing. Have been here twice for my shoes, and will keep going back!! I tried to "buy off the rack" at a sporting goods store, paid $180 for shoes, and ended up with a really bad injury. I went to Blue Mile, they told me why those shoes were bad, and I will no longer shop anywhere for my running footwear needs. I've always had friendly salespeople that are full of information. They may seem pricey compared to DSW as another reviewer stated, but it's not worth the injury, pain, and time away from running to save a buck. read more

This place has a great staff that knows there stuff, everyone is actually a runner, how novel! They have a treadmill that is hooked up to a video camera and records how you run - it's simple, but amazing - very helpful. Worth the drive from the mall stores, for sure. I went to this store today to get some sprinting cleates for track. Me and my Mom stood in the store waiting to be helped. Not only did no one talk to us, it was like we were invisible. I've been going to Blue Mile since before they were Blue Mile. And I am never disappointed with their level of service, expertise, and professionalism. Jamie helped me today-I came in with shin splints. And it's hopefully due to needing new shoes. After assessing what I'm currently wearing, she grabbed four different pairs, set them up in a neat row, and left me to it. She continued to check in with me while remaining busy with her other customers. She was not pushy AT ALL and completely available for questions or concerns. What I love most is that she is honest about how they don't work on commission and the goal is the right shoe, not necessarily the most expensive. Of course, I ended up with the more expensive shoes. I am new to yelp, but not new to writing reviews. That said, I'm glad that I get to start off with such a wonderful company. This very well may be the only 5 star review that I write. We'll see. That said, Blue Mile is truly "the" legit runner's source in Indianapolis. They greeted me when I walked in the door. The representative (I won't use the word salesman here. They made sure to be a resource, not a motivating force) was remarkably knowledgeable. He put me in test shoes, had me hop up on the treadmill (after asking if I felt comfortable on one, first), had me run for less than two minutes while he recorded my foot/ankle activity. After the treadmill piece ended, he took the time to explain to me what my feet were doing. He started with the very scientific answer about how my tarlus was floating outward and what that meant in terms of pronation. He also then explained what that meant in leyman's terms, told me why that made running harder for me, and then immediately showed me three pairs of shoes. Instead of just asking me to try on one or two, he had me try on and test all three at least once before making any decision. He explained it was a lot like going to three seperate italian restaurants and ordering the veal parmigian; to wit, that the shoe I liked most would probably end up being personal preference since they all did similar things with only subtle differences. I ended up settling for the first shoe he showed me. After trying them all on, I told him why the first shoe felt so much better, and he explained to me why the shoe made my gait feel that way. He knew not only the different materials used in each part of the shoe, but he also knew what they really did and how they were altering my foot-strike. He then showed me (because I expressed interest) a great mini-marathon training program that is based on time (meaning you don't count miles while training, just run for certain amounts of time). Now, I'm NOWHERE NEAR ready for a mini-marathon, but one of my resolutions is to run the mini in November this year (the Monumental Mini-Marathon in Indianapolis). I started training last year, trained for three months, and then was injured, so I was a little sceptical on whether I could actually carry through with it. I told him what my training regimen was like the last attempt, and he told me why the injuries probably occured. He explained the bio-mechanical reason and what potential problems there were with my regimen. He also recommened many online resources. Additionally, he fit my wife in her new shoes similarly, and gave her great benefits on different supplements (she is a cyclist looking at century rides). He new the different consituents of each product, which products had the quickest effect, the smoothest/roughest onsets and dispersement windows, and which supplements where best for what situations. Every person that works for blue mile is an experienced, well-versed runner. The best part, for me, was the excitement for running all the employees had while completely avoiding any type of negative judgement. He never made me feel self-conscious about my running, and I am overweight. When I told him I had to stop early in my training in July, instead of saying "that's too bad" or lamenting my lack of follow through, he told me that it was fantastic I made it all the way from March to July last year. He consistently stayed positive, consistently described the running experience in a way that felt organic and right, and I appreciated that. Still, I came for shoes, and I left with shoes that feel better than any other running shoes I've had. I didn't know running could be this pain-free! It didn't immediately add 3 miles of distance, but my ankles/shins don't hurt afterward anymore. There was no charge for the analysis, no charge for any advice, the shoes ran $120 (most of their shoes are $110-$120, with the high end being $180 and the low end being $70), and they told me to come back with any questions about products, techniques, tips, advice, or even to find running groups/partners. They sponsor a running group every weekend that offers some training also. If you pay the upfront of $40 (I think, or there-abouts), you can run with them and the trainer every weekend at your own pace and you never have to pay them again! You hear a lot of hype about running shoes and advice, and these guys cut through all of it. They are knowledgeable about running, podiatric theory, supplements, and products. If you want to change your whole running experience, come here. I can't think of a way for them to improve, short of selling all there products for less (which would essentially mean for a loss). Unfortunately, the great customer service that existed here before they became just another Finish Line store is gone. we had been customers for many years but today, i had a very disappointing visit here regarding a new pair of Brooks which were defective. Because I was beyond the 30 day window since purchase, the manager was not willing to do anything. At $150 a pair, there are other places to shop. I intend to take my businesss elsewhere. These guys really love running and really know their stuff. The only reason they get 4 instead of 5 is the selection they carry of some specific shoes is thin. This may be hard to explain, because they carry a lot of running shoes that cover the range of needs. However, if I want a Nike Free model for example, they will have 1 pair in one color in my size. Makes me want to go online to purchase after tapping these guys for info. On another positive note, these guys support the running community in a lot of ways and have great training programs available for new runners and long time enthusiast as well. read more
