We checked out Flecha in 4S Ranch (the newer Mexican spot that took over the old Miguel's location), and overall it was a good experience with a couple of clear standouts--and a couple of misses. Right when we walked in, they handed us a complimentary flute of what tasted like a grapefruit margarita (or something close). Really nice touch and a great way to kick things off. Service was also a highlight. Trevor, our server, was excellent--super attentive, friendly, and patient. Since the restaurant is still fairly new, we had a handful of questions, and he answered everything to the best of his knowledge and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. We started with chips + red salsa + queso dip. The chips were good, but a bit more oily than I remember from Miguel's. The salsa was solid. The queso was good too, though if I'm being picky, I think Miguel's queso had a slight edge flavor-wise. For the entrée I ordered the beer-battered fish tacos, and these were the star of the night. The fish was generous, crispy, and flavorful--definitely the kind of tacos that feels worth ordering again. The rice and beans on the side were fine, but pretty standard/ordinary. With the prices here, I was hoping for something a little more memorable on the sides. Dessert was the fried ice cream, and this was the biggest disappointment. The "fried" part didn't really feel fried--it seemed more like the ice cream was wrapped in something like Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. Some bites were crunchy, but a lot of it was soggy, and there was just too much of that coating, so the texture was inconsistent. The ice cream itself was great, no issues there, just the execution of the "fried" portion. One thing to know: prices run high. There are plenty of entrees in the $40-$70 range. I haven't tried those pricier items yet, so I can't fully judge value across the menu, but it does make me a little cautious. That said, the fish tacos were excellent. As for the space: it's familiar if you went to Miguel's, but they've freshened it up with some modern touches. The venue is still relaxing and fairly spaced out, and we had no complaints about the overall vibe. Bottom line: I'd come back for the fish tacos, some new items also, and the great service, but I'd probably skip the fried ice cream next time. My partners Cadillac Margaritas was served w no salt. I went to the bar and they fixed it right up. The bar staff was fun friendly and accommodating. Our food arrived quickly but my partner wanted a warmer temperature, the waitress was understanding and brought out a hot plate of beans and rice. I was dissatisfied w mine because the rice was hard. I didn't want to complain again so I just ate the rest of my food which was delicious, and left the rice. The dip and salsa that came w the chips were enjoyable. We were Looking forward to going out for my birthday! This place was not good at all! The food was subpar! The calamari was four thick steaks stuck together that was obviously not fresh but frozen and they deep fried it. It was not good at all. My husband's Chile Riano was not tasty or authentic. My Barrera tacos were decent, but too much fat on the meat for myself. The $18 Cadillac margaritas were filled to the brim with ice and there was no floater on it. Then my husband asked for a shot of the grand Marina on the side and it came back with just a quarter field. The bus boys went by our table several times without picking up dishes until we had to ask them can you please pick up our appetizer dishes. There was food on the floor that they kept walking by someone could've slipped! On a Saturday night the bar only had two people. the music wasn't even Mexican style music it was. I don't even know what you call it, terrible music Our waitress was great. We really did like her. We felt sorry for her thou, she was picking up our dinner dishes?The GM had quit two weeks ago, and the manager wasn't even walking around to ask how our food was?The birthday dessert they gave me was a small dry chocolate cake. The chips were OK, The salsa was definitely not fresh or homemade. the outside patio only had two people in it. We ordered the street corn and the whole table side presentation made us roll our eyes a little, especially since it came out about 30 seconds before the main courses. Then someone stopped by the table about 10 seconds after the food had been served asking "how's the food" before realizing we hadn't started and left - never to return. Food was expensive - $40 for carne asada fajitas. I feel like that might have been a little more than Red O. It was good no doubt, as were the enchiladas and tacos. I had a blessing of an hour off of work because our department got an hour off on Friday last, which I missed because I left work early that day. Thank God my work lead allowed me to take it another day, so I let my life pahtner know about it and we planned to check out Mark Wahlberg's new restaurant Flecha Cantina during their Happy Hour. I enjoyed my first visit at Flecha, most of the Happy Hour offerings were quality and tasty, our service was decent, and even though Marky Mark was part of the Funky Bunch, his restaurant had a cool vibe and wasn't funky at all. Flecha is located in 4S Ranch specifically within the 4S Commons Town Center outdoor shopping center. Flecha is in the same spot where Miguel's Mexican restaurant used to be. The restaurant is across from Karl Strauss, World Market, and Ulta. It's a short jaunt to Ralph's, Wendy's, and CVS. There is plenty of parking in front of Flecha and throughout this large shopping center. Once you enter through its doors, you can tell it's a new restaurant because it's clean. Flecha is a Mexican restaurant, but the decor is modern and I didn't see any accoutrements that reflected Mexican culture, which I don't consider a negative. I liked that there were several palm trees in the middle of the restaurant, abundant usage of foliage around the restaurant, classy light fixtures, and lots of natural light through the many open windows. Mark Wahlberg's mug was displayed in the Happy Hour seating area. Flecha is spacious with table/chair seating, booth seating, lounge chair seats, bar seating, and a large outdoor seating area with fire pits. It's got a cool vibe with dance moving music and the bar has plenty of tvs to watch sports. Our server Reagan was friendly, checked on us, and the hostess and other staff we interacted with were courteous. The hostess offering us welcome margaritas before we got seated was a nice touch. My wifey and I were dining at Flecha specifically for its Happy Hour, so my review is based on that menu. Their Happy Hour runs from 3-7pm. After we ordered our food, Reagan brought out warm, crunchy tortilla chips accompanied by salsa and cheese sauce. The complimentary chips were plentiful, addicting, and when dipped in the salsa and cheese sauce, I could have just eaten that and would have been satisfied. Flecha's cheese sauce is a yummy dipping vessel for the chips and the fries we ordered. I thought the Happy Hour menu had diverse choices and what we ordered were solid, quality, and tasty. For our adult beverages, both the missus and I ordered their Spicy Strawberry Citrus Margarita. Make sure to ask for the Tajin seasoning around the rim of the glass and you'll enjoy how delicious and refreshing that drink is. You'll experience the spicy after taste, but it's enjoyable spicy. For our grub, we ordered the Truffle Guajillo Fries, the Guacamole Simple, the Taquitos De Pollo, and the Two for $8 Street Tacos with Achiote Tequila Chicken and Pork Belly as our choices. The stars for me were the guac, the taquitos, and my pork belly taco. I applaud the chefs for the quality tasting food and am looking forward to trying their regular menu. The guac complemented the chips and combined with the cheese sauce, the trio was a winning combo. The taquitos were cooked perfectly and were hearty. The pork belly taco was satisfying, but small and oily. The fries needed to be crunchier. For me, I don't think you're given enough food for the price, but maybe that's because I'm spoiled by the larger portions from my fave Happy Hour restaurant Yard House. Recommendation for management would be for them to have value for your money when it comes to their Happy Hour fare. If you're familiar with the predecessor to Flecha, Miguel's was cursed by an E. Coli breakout. Miguel's was known for their cheese sauce and I thought Flecha's cheese sauce was as stellar as its predecessor. Flecha is a welcomed addition to 4S Ranch and the Rancho Bernardo area. Based on my first time visit, I'm hoping Mark Wahlberg's Flecha remains in our area for a long time. read more

Sunday brunch at Flecha Overall the food was great and there was plenty of it for an all-you-can-eat brunch. The made-to-order omelets were especially good, fresh and cooked just right. And the unlimited mimosas included! Drink up friends becuase this will not last forever! My local friends would probably come for that alone. Most places charge around $20 just for bottomless drinks, so it's definitely a nice bonus here. The only downside was the service, which was a bit slow and could use some improvement. That said, the quality of the food makes up for it. I've seen places that are fully booked with worse food and much higher prices. If you're looking for a relaxed brunch with good food and mimosas included, this spot is worth checking out. read more

I've been to this Flecha restaurant a couple of times now, once for dinner and once during their brunch, and though overall it's OK, I do miss the Miguel's Cocina it replaced. The overall cost of all the items is much higher and though the food overall has been good, it hasn't been spectacular to justify the higher costs. An example if the Pork Belly Taco plate that both Miguel's and Flecha have. It may be a matter of personal taste, but I really loved the pork belly on the Miguel's plate much more since the pork fat was rendered down much better and was just the right texture, whereas in the Flecha plate it's not rendered down very much so is not as enjoyable though it's got some good flavor too. The corn tortilla it is on seems home made and was good but fell apart very easily making it a little hard to eat. My wife had the Poblano Chile Enchilada with Lobster and said it too was overall OK, but not that flavorful. The have a nice drink selection including a Guava Margarita which is nice, and the two times we've been they offer a complimentary Mimosa or Margarita at the front desk to have while you are waiting or being seated which is a nice touch. The ambiance is also a little different than most Mexican restaurants. I think they are shooting for a "higher end" feeling, but sometimes seems to come off as "pomp and circumstance" rather than the casual feeling of most Mexican restaurants which may appeal to some but be off putting to others. At least the outside patio that Miguel's had is largely untouched and still a relaxing place to eat on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. read more

Cocktail quality was top shelf. Every staff member were well trained and displayed a very high level of customer service and knowledge when asked for food or drink explanations. I took the opportunity to interact with on-site management, Regional Mngr Rob and Manager Dana. We ordered the six pack of street tacos and the chicken was the best. Soft and flavorful. I had a spicy strawberry citrus margarita that was incredibly sweet and had no spice to be found. My husband had the Flecha which was also very sweet. Our food came and we had no plates and silverware and had to wait for a server to go by to request them. We shall give it another try another day. Flecha opened a new restaurant in San Diego after taking over what used to be a Miguel's at one of my stomping grounds. I had an occasion to dine there once things settled down after their grand opening. The look and feel was slightly changed from the former restaurant, but the menu was a bit different in a lot of ways. My experience was a bit mixed. Upon arrival, I was greeted by very friendly staff along with an offering for a beverage. Very nice touch while trying to establish itself as an elevated Mexican spot in a sea of spots in California. My guest and I dined in the lounge which had the same look and feel with a few changes. Staff there was very attentive as well. We were served with a spiced up white sauce and salsa to accompany tortilla chips. Good taste with both. As mentioned, the menu contained many traditional options with a few items that appeared to be a step up from the traditional Mexican items. A few combinations that were described in detail and one that was my planned order. Unfortunately, upon ordering I learned that the Flecha Combo along with the other combo's were not yet available. I moved to the Pollo Verde which is a go to whenever I dine on Mexican food. The entrée arrived on what seemed like a huge square wood serving board that took up nearly half of my four-top table. The display was interesting, and I suppose it accentuated each of the items that accompanied this meal. Pico, Guacamole, and roasted pepper were served atop a leaf and included a serving of beans and rice. The Pollo Verde was a good serving and was accompanied with several tortillas wrapped in parchment. While the serving instrument was unique, the food was equally unique, but not in a good way. The pollo was plentiful, but the Verde sauce was heavy on the tangy side and not as much on the spicy. The beans had a bit of after taste which was not appealing and the plating instrument was a miss. There was there was very little room on the table to place a drink nearby. My thoughts were that a bigger plate would suffice perfectly and eliminate the empty space between each of the items on my plate. The tortillas served in the parchment caused them to cool after the first one. Overall, okay, but not something I would order again. Being a restaurant located in my circle, I was disappointed mostly by the food. There was such huge fanfare when it opened which built up some anticipation. Unfortunately, the food came up short for me. I good concept to elevate Mexican food to compete against some of other spots that have been super popular. Flecha has potential, but needs to make some refinements before it gets to that level. They have the service and ambience and creativity, but fall a bit short on flavor, in my opinion. I'll have to give Flecha another try, but I'll wait a bit to give them a chance to bring their combinations together and possibly make further refinements to their recipes. read more

Marky Mark's Mexican restaurant took over Miguel's. The restaurant basically looks the same as when it was Miguel's. Fortunately, there are plenty of pros to this new spot. Complimentary welcome cocktail, Taco Tuesday & Happy Hour deals that are a steal & fun vibes. It was packed the both times I came but the service was much quicker during my second visit. The dishes here are pricey, definitely a restaurant meant for 4s Ranch. I probably will not come back unless it is for cocktails or during their deals because the food was just okay. I ordered the Carnitas Flautas & I am used to deep fried flour tortillas but these were corn tortillas. If not, then it was super burnt flour tortillas. I really wanted to love Flecha, especially since it's a new establishment in the 4S area, but unfortunately my first visit fell short of expectations. I understand that new restaurants have kinks to work out, but some basics were missed. When a customer is seated, if chips and salsa are standard, they should be brought out promptly. We ordered tableside guacamole, which was prepared without any chips at the table, which felt like an odd oversight. Additionally, we were not offered water initially, and even after requesting it, it never arrived. These may seem like small things, but they are part of the overall dining experience and first impressions matter--especially for a new restaurant. I truly hope Flecha succeeds in 4S, as the area could use more great dining options. With better attention to service basics, this restaurant has potential, but for now, there are definitely a few kinks that need to be perfected. read more

I checked out 4S Ranch's newest restaurant, Flecha Cantina, a brand developed by actor and entrepreneur Mark Wahlberg. It's operating in the space formerly occupied by Miguel's Cocina which unfortunately had a checkered past at this location. This is Flecha's third restaurant, with two other locations operating in Huntington Beach and Las Vegas. I arrived at 3:00 pm and decided to focus my observations solely on Happy Hour. Having visited Miguel's here numerous times before, I recognized upon entering that the bones and layout remained the same, however the big change was the color scheme. All the cheerful reds and oranges were gone, replaced by deep browns and blacks that presented a most brooding vibe. Even the silverware was black! The other thing I noticed right off the bat was the sheer volume of staff working. The hostess station alone had three ladies working the desk. I can't imagine their enormous payroll budget here! It was evident though everyone was aiming to please and make a good first impression. After entering and approaching the hostess station I was offered a complimentary guava margarita! It was a small amount in a champagne glass with no ice, served at room temperature, somewhat sticky on the outside. All these glasses were pre-prepared, sitting in a rather undignified large black plastic bin at the hostess desk. I really like this concept and have experienced it at other nice restaurants. I do think they should put some more thought into how they pull this off though. I mentioned that I was just going to be sitting at the bar and one of the hostess ladies accompanied me with a massive menu in hand. Service so far is making a really good impression. Including the bartender who was nice, thoughtful, and engaging in a balanced way, not over the top. There were at least three manager-looking types working among the teams. Older, well dressed, seemingly in charge. On to the food and drink... Happy Hour is Monday - Friday from 3:00 - 7:00 pm, plus Sunday - Thursday from 9:00 pm - Close. The only HH beer option is the "Domestic Draft Beer Pint" for $6. Your choices are Michelob or Budweiser! Not really a good deal at $6 for those beers. The HH Flecha Marg for $10 was average tasting yet beautifully presented. Next came Chips & Salsa service. First, the salsa looked great! A generous portion accompanied the chips, served in a beautiful dish. While I enjoyed the taste and texture, there was virtually no spice heat to it. They did pull out these bottles of what looked like a habanero sauce to doctor things up a bit. The salsa here is definitely geared for the timid. The chips themselves were terrible. Very institutional tasting, bland and borderline stale. I can get a much better chips & salsa service at On the Border. Next, I ordered the HH "Carnitas Flautas" for $10. Includes salsa quemada, guacamole, Monterey jack & chihuahua cheeses, crema blanca and pickled red onion. At first, I was wondering if they served me the HH Taquitos de Pollo by mistake, but I don't think so. I know flauta literally means "flute", but in the context of San Diego Mexican food, calling these flautas is very misleading. The salsa and crema were artfully drizzled on top, the guacamole was a good amount, but the cheeses were unfortunately indiscernible. Aside from all that, they did taste great! I wouldn't consider two taquitos for $10 a good HH value though, even by todays inflationary standards. Maybe it's all the fussy accoutrements they add, no doubt with culinary tweezers. I do look forward to visiting Flecha again to try some dinner main dishes. I do consider the food experiences I've had so far to be an unfortunate juxtaposition to the gold-plated prices. My family had the joy of coming for Flecha's Thanksgiving buffet. The staff was very friendly, attentive, quick, and they communicated well with each other. This contributed to a welcoming atmosphere, along with adults being provided mimosas upon entering (if interested) and they had upbeat music playing. The restaurant was clean, classy, and offered indoor and outdoor seating. I was super impressed by the wide variety of food offered from brunch classics of sausage links, bacon, waffles, coin-sized pancakes, and fresh fruit to Mexican dishes of enchiladas, fajitas, and birria -- plus so much more like baby back ribs, cajun shrimp, and shrimp cocktail. The carving station featured roast beef with au jus that had fresh rosemary, turkey with freshly-made gravy (I could see the bits of turkey in it), and ham. There were nice discs of sweet potatoes too. To help with pickier palates held by our younger family members, they even had tater tots, chicken strips, mac & cheese, and cereal! Beverage-wise in the buffet line, there was lemonade, horchata, jamaica, milk, and chocolate milk and you could order other drinks too. For dessert there was flan, pumpkin pie, apple pie, jello, cookies, and more. Showstoppers were cotton candy spun in front of you, plus the chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallows. I have very picky eaters in my household and it was nice to be able to go somewhere that could satisfy everyone! The food tasted great. My favorite was probably the birria - it was moist, tender, and had great flavor. I think that the buffet offered great value for the money given the delicious food, the great service, and positive atmosphere. We look forward to returning! read more

Seated immediately because the restaurant was maybe half full on a Friday night. Once entire party arrived and was seated we waited another 30-45 minutes for our order to be taken. Hour wait for food to arrive. Drinks were watered down or mixed incorrectly. Food was less then mediocre and my husband threw away part of his meal - unheard of, because the pork chop was so overcooked (same meal he had at first visit a few months ago and it was amazing). Bathroom was out of supplies, with trash overflowing. So disappointing and to too it off this is a pricey restaurant so adding fuel to the fire we received a $$$$$ bill for this less then mediocre evening. Oh man. We really wanted to like this place more. Our relatively decent food and beverages were overshadowed by very frustrating service. This place must be so disorganized I'm really not sure they have any system in place for table coverage and food running. We were sat on the patio for happy hour and had to wait nearly 20 minutes to order any food or receive chips. Others got complementary drinks while they waited, we never did. "It's patchy out here on the patio" was the quote we heard regarding the wait to order. No one is designated for outside guests? The inside wasn't even terribly busy.. When we finally did order, our drinks came out wrong and we had to wait 25 minutes for our appetizer. Margaritas were great for their happy hour price, but we wouldn't pay full price for them. No one gave us utensils or plates so we waited another 10 minutes for someone to come around to ask for those. We saw our waitress come out and ignore our table no less than 3 times while she applied lip gloss. We got enchiladas for our entree - another 30 minute wait as we longingly waited to make eye contact with our waitress who would only appear outside every 15-20 minutes so we could ask for more chips/salsa. The enchiladas were fine, not at all worth the price. All told, happy hour is probably the time to come, but make sure it's not busy at all or that you sit very close to the service station or something, otherwise you'll be forgotten. Came in on a Saturday evening with my mom around 7:30 PM. Hostesses were really nice, greeted us right away and let us know that there's a 40 minute wait for a table, or we can self seat at the bar/upper lounge area. We chose the bar area. The ambiance was pretty nice. Nothing exceptional but the place felt clean and spacious. There were two guys working the bar right in front of us, one had black hair with a trimmed beard and the other guy was shaven with curly black hair. Both of them were a 5/5 with service, and we were grateful with their recommendations. We weren't served with utensils or chips right away. We ordered the ceviche crudo and by the time that arrived we still didn't have utensils or chips. One of the guys at the bar helped us out. We ordered three things: ceviche crudo, seabass, and half a rack of baby back rib plate. The crudo was 5/5. Spicy, tangy and delicious. The seabass was 3/5. The fish felt undercooked and the middle part was noticeably cold. The baby back ribs place was a 3/5 for me. The plate itself was pretty substantial with how much came with it, but lowkey I wouldn't come back for the rib plate. If I wanted that I'll just drive to Phils BBQ lol. Overall decent experience. I'll probably come back to check out the happy hour sometime. read more

Let me start by saying the service was amazing! All servers worked very hard, and took good care of our party. My review is only based on the food. First of all, the restaurant was hot inside, so we moved outside, we visited on 9/9/26. We ordered ceviches and all of them were very disappointing, not to our expectations, then we ordered several dishes, for a party of 6 adults, chicken verde enchiladas, not good. Chicken mole, not good, it was like just chocolate and chicken, lack of flavor. Queso birria tacos, not good, the birria sauce was just plain flavorless. the only good dish was the Vampiro carne asada tacos. I will never go back and will not recommend this place to anyone that is looking for authentic Mexican food. this place may be decent in Boston, maybe. Not in CA. read more

Service and ambiance were GREAT but the prices ($10 margs on happy hour otherwise almost $20 not on HH) we're ok, but not super good. The presentation is nice but they don't use real fruit juice (they use juice infused puree/syrup that's store bought) and the food was good but kind of pricey. On the plus side, there's complimentary chips and salsa and cheese dip, servers were fantastic and the restaurant is really pretty. Just a little too pricey for not using super fresh ingredients is my only compliant. read more

Now this the place to go to in San Diego for the best Margaritas in town! Period. Happy hour pricing is good. Only negative? The bartender services... You need more bartenders staffed during happy hour. Most especially to entertain the local businesses that come after work. I've come several times since they first opened and the bar staff is always stressed and not servicing customers in time. Please add more bartenders and train them more to watch and service the customers around the bar area. You will get more repeat customers if you fix this problem. read more

Had lunch with a friend today and lunch wasn't too bad! When you arrive, you are greeted with a sample of their guava margarita, I appreciate and loved it! We ordered 3 shots of titos, 2 guava margaritas with titos, ceviche crudo, beet salad, 3 carne asada tacos and fried ice cream. Our bill ~$165 with tip. Pro's - sample of the guava margarita, they serve Miguel's queso and the flavor of the ceviche. Fried ice cream has a lil flamed presentation. Con's - we asked for the food to be spaced out with the ceviche first then salad and tacos. Unfortunately, everything came out at once so our salad was a bit wilted from all the dressing and our tacos were no longer warm. The fried ice cream wasn't what we expected, they use cereal/ cinnamon crunch toast which was not crispy and stale. We asked to switch out to the churros and they had no issue. The decor looks the same as before. Would have liked an upgrade like the other locations. I'll give Flecha another chance, maybe happy hour will be better. read more
