Location and customer service are two great aspects of Flatbreads, but what do they matter when the food is sub-par? As a BC student, I have ventured to Flatbreas many times, simply because it is the closest option for students craving a sandwich but trying to avoid the dining halls. Every time I eat there, however, I always tell myself that I won't go back. I have often ordered sandwiches with avacado in them-- and more than once it's been soggy and seemed old. Also, the hot sandwich options aren't even grilled, they are simply microwaved. For the amount that is being charged per sandwich, one would think that a bit more effort could be put into each sandwich. Overall, the convenient location of Flatbreads makes up for its mediocre food, and despite all the complaints, I will probably end up returning to give it another shot... As a student, the options are limited! read more

Flatbreads Cafe is a small deli specializing in wraps located across the street from Boston College. It's definitely easy to miss, but you'd be missing out! They have a very extensive menu of wraps with creative combinations not often found elsewhere, and the food is always very fresh. For BC students, one of the best aspects of Flatbreads is its convenience and the fact that they accept Eagle Bucks, but anyone in the neighborhood or driving through should definitely check it out - the wraps are filling but not too heavy, and they make excellent salads as well. They have two miniscule tables outside, but Flatbreads is best enjoyed to go. Michael, one of the wrap artists - you'll see why I choose that term - is the best. I always appreciate a snugly wrapped wrap (you know? when all the stuff stays inside until you get to the other end?), and he manages to do that and throw a very large knife through it at lightning speed - it's worth going just to see him work. I never stray from the Chicken a la Pesto (pesto, tomatoes, and mozzarella) wrap myself, but friends have recommended the "Tuna and..." (Tuna salad and some other stuff, obviously) and the "Acapulco" (Swiss, Guacamole, Salsa, Tomato, Turkey). Flatbreads has breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and operates a catering business as well. I have tried many times to go back to FlatBreads in order to find something I like, because the owner seems like a genuinely nice guy, who works really hard to make your order quickly and exactly as you want it. But, ugh, every time I order a sandwich, it's just not good. Mr. Nice Owner Guy, I tried, I really did, but the food is just not very good, especially for the $8ish pricetag. I'm glad there's finally going to be some decent dining options near BC for future generations of students (El Pelon, Crazy Dough). I've been visiting John at Flat Breads for years. Given the multitude of different sandwich (and salad) options, I dare you to not find something here that you love. I have probably had most things on the menu, but tend to gravitate towards the melted sandwiches. Breakfast sandwiches are awesome too. It's fast, and John will make sure you leave with a smile. I really don't understand the negative reviews about this place. The owner John provides some of the best customer service I have ever experienced, and the one guy (Mynor?) who makes the sandwiches is unbelievable. I have never seen anyone make a sandwich so fast. I have been going here for probably 10 years, and have never had a bad sandwich. To the people who are shocked that they use a microwave for heating, either order a cold sandwich or go to a full service restaurant. You do realize that this is a sandwich shop? Flat Breads is a great place to eat healthy wraps and still have them taste good! The wraps are made super fast ...its amazing to watch these guys make them! And they are so MMM MMM Good. My favorite is the California with Turkey Breast, Avacado, Tomato, Mayo, Swiss Cheese, and bacon,...the Avacado makes it delicious! I also enjoy the Chestnut Hill (White meat pulled chicken breast, chopped celery, mayo, lettucs and tomato.....PhillY Cheese Steak is pretty good as well. They have anything from Roast Beef, to Seafood, to Veggie, BLT, Reuben sandwich, to the Italian Steak Pizzola. The Zorro is pretty good too - (Beef Meat Balls, Mozzarella, Roasted Red Tomato Cilantro Salsa, Parmesan, Oregano, and Onion Rolled in Torilla. In the mornings they have Breakfast sandwiches. My favorite is the T Stop and the Conquistador. They have a good variety of Salas from Caesar, to Chicken Caesar, to Greek Salada, to Antipasto, Cobb, Spinach Salada, and Garden for $9 (they are huge amount tho) Their Freshly Baked Brownies and Cookies/Cakes are to die for! Prices for both catering options include the individual menu price for the sandwich plus $3.00 per person for the extras. Soda, juice, fresh baked cookies, and bag of chips. They are super fast, always friendly and Flat Breads is conveniently located at the gateway to Boston College just down the block from the Boston College train station (green Line)(B) line. Once was all I needed and I knew this place was abysmal. Its a subshop that does not do subs. They do Flatbreads which is just an excuse to charge $3.00 more for far less food. Its not even fresh it was all frozen or pre-cooked. Subway has fresher options. My Meatball sandwhich was so pre fabricated I could have bought a better one from a vending machine. With BC student's propensity to walk into oncoming traffic and get into fights outside my window at 2AM its no wonder they frequent this establishment. Apparently the dirty Jers does things better down south, but I can tell you that (as a local) Flatbreads is about as good as it gets when you're on the run and looking for a quick wrap-sandwich for lunch. It doesn't advertise itself as a sub shop and sticks to its knitting - very good wraps at very good prices. The owner couldn't be more accommodating or professional and he exhibits nothing but the highest standards of service when serving customers. This cafe values customer loyalty and is very appreciative of customers in return. Frequented by many BC students, Flatbreads accepts Eagle Bucks. This shop has been part of the students' "BC experience" for years and will be for some time to come. Went the other day for the first time. Must say the owner keeps the place really clean. The speed of service, well lets just say the gentleman behind the counter might have been Flash Gordan's son. The actual Pad Thai wrap I got was heavy on the lettuce and light on the Pad Thai stuff. It's not like I won't try it again, but if I get my head stomped twice then it's a KO. Which I hope not to happen because after chatting it up with the owner and him giving me a free "Super ""10"" Card (a la Super Cuts) I really would like to like this place. However, I keep my expectations aligned to more important things like a win from the Celtics, BP solving the oil fiasco or positive proof of extra-terrestrial life being found on a distant planet. Poor customer service!! While I cannot attest to the quality of Flat Breads sandwiches it is only because we never got to order from them. The catering manager approached us for business and we asked for them to do a tasting. I am not apt to order 50+ sandwiches sight unseen. We are also 25+ min away so asked for a warm sandwich to see how it traveled. At first the answer was "Sure.. No problem..." which quickly turned into "We are canceling as we do not give away hot sandwiches" When I called to speak to a manager the person answering the phone was Rude and when I asked his name not only did her refuse to give it, he asked mine and when I would not say he said"This is not 20 questions" and hung up. Lets just say I am happy they did not come out as I would have hated to see what they would have been like with a large order. read more

The owner of Flat Breads, an older guy who often works the register, is friendly and welcoming to the BC students that frequent this sandwich shop. Beyond that, there is little nice to say about the place. Across the board, the "gourmet" wraps that are offered are mediocre at best; poor at worst. The roast beef wraps are devoid of flavor; chicken caeser/gobbler's delight are drowned in dressing to the detriment of the sandwich; not to mention every "hot" sandwich, which entails simply the microwaving of a normal wrap, leaving each sandwich (chick parm, meatball, etc.) soggy and deformed. All this might be acceptable as a grab-and-go college stop if the food was priced accordingly. But it isn't. A typical order of a wrap, drink, and bag of chips runs $12. They don't even have seating available. I kick myself every time I need to eat here out of convenience (seriously, man up and grab a slice from Pino's or a burrito from Chipotle in Cleveland Circle if you can). The woman taking the orders also has to go; the guys who make the sandwiches are more personable. It's a mom and pop place, so I feel bad slamming the joint, but the bottom line remains: poor food and overpriced. read more

I am from California and travel a lot. While in Boston I had a "wrap" at Flatbreads on Commonwealth Avenue near Boston College. I was there for a football game. It was highly recommended to me by a "local" who said it was outstanding and good value. Locals can give good food advice as we know (that holds true for every country I have visited). Flatbreads Cafe has both fresh, good food and great service. The owner himself serves at the counter and greets his customers personally. You can tailor your sandwich or salad the way you want it and he doesn't charge extra. The rewards program is a great deal for us "regular" customers. If you are in the Boston College or Chestnut Hill area, this is a great choice for take-out rolled sandwiches, salads, chips, and the best chocolate chip cookies ever :-) .
