Let's talk about Forest Hills Diner. As a Boston Native, How Dare I be from here, have attended High School in Hyde Park, and have never eaten at Forest Hills Diner until today. Literally! I was TODAY years old when I learned that Forest Hills Diner has some amazingggggggggg food. I flew in this morning to check on my grandmother and decided to grab breakfast with one of my best friends before heading over. She had been raving about Forest Hills Diner, so of course, I had to go. It was early in the morning, so the foot traffic was slow. The restaurant was very clean, and as soon as we opened the door, the gentleman behind the counter was very welcoming, offering a warm greeting and a big smile. As I was at the counter exploring the menu, I was excited to see the variety of options offered. There literally was so much to choose from, and I wanted one of everything. LoL! However, I decided to get the Beef Smoked Sausage on an English Muffin with Home Fries, add Onions, Extra Onions, Well Well Well Done... The Beef Sausage was well done and juicy. The smokiness was super flavorful and let the natural beef flavor shine, yet it held its own lane as well. The sandwich also had a generous portion of meat and was well worth the price. The Home Fries were absolutely amazing. They were done the exact way I ordered them. They were very well seasoned and the crispiness of the edges paired with the softness of the middle, OhEmGeeeeeeeeeeee... I want more now. LoL!!! As I was eating, the foot traffic definitely picked up, and it was so heart-warming to see the guy behind the counter welcome people by name as they walked through the door. This is a representation of TRUE service. The kind of survive that you don't see anymore. Not to mention, the charm of a local spot where the people know your name. Ha Overall, my experience at Forest Hills Diner was superb. Not only was it an experience worth promoting, but it was also so amazing that I will ensure I come back whenever I am home and in the mood for breakfast. The go-to will be Forest Hills Diner. Food. This spot is a cherished favorite. Whenever I have the time, it's a top choice for breakfast. Service is unparalleled. Very clean and welcoming environment. It's Saturday morning, sothere'ss about a 20-minute wait. Reasonable. I started off with a giant grilled blueberry muffin and medium coffee. Deliciousness. Ordered one egg full breakfast, which included toast and hashbrowns with a choice of meat. Expertly prepared to order. The was home cooked with a touch of class. You had to pick up your own food and use the condiments at the counter.

TOP NOTCH! I order breakfast from here via GrubHub semi-regularly. I love their pancakes AND THEIR homefries are also fanastic. They always send plenty of syrup, ketchup, butter, and even napkins! (Unlike The Joint in JP that doesn't send syrup because "people have syrup at home"). This place is SO GOOD! If they stayed open in evenings or afternoons for delivery, I'd probably order from them far more often. read more

The price is decent but the food is meh. I had corned beef hash, eggs and home fries. I didn't finish it, I wasn't a fan of the taste of the potatoes or the corn beef. It wasn't terrible, just not to my liking. It's spacious in there and there is on street parking, no meters. The employees are nice and the place is clean. read more

First off, I walked in here in a Saturday morning a little after 8 and I was shocked that literally no one was there! I am accustomed to diners that are busy ALL weekend, so I also find it weird that they are closed on Sunday. HOWEVER, when I walked in the service was very warm and friendly. I was a little confused because you have to go up to the counter and order and pay first, so it wasn't the typical diner service. BUT that honestly just made the process of getting food so so quick, so I was happy about it. As far as the food goes, I got a 2 egg junior breakfast. The potatoes were so so (not as crispy as I'd like), but the English muffin and eggs were perfection. The coffee was bearable. But honestly the greatest thing about this place was the prices. Place is ok, the only thing is I ordered a steak sub. I ended up getting a ground beef sub. Guys the steak is already dead. You chopped up the steak to much to a point that it was ground beef. Hence the steak sub. We need to feel like we are biting into a thinly sliced steak. But it wasn't. Just try to not over butcher the steak it's already thin I'm sure it will cook fast. Good diner food! I got the 2 eggs, 2 pancakes with sausage. Pancakes were giant! There was no way I could have finished all of the food. The sausage was just alright. I probably would go with the bacon next time around. Home fries were good but nothing out of this world. There was only one person making all of the orders, so it did take quite a bit of time for our order to come out. There were plenty of tables for us to grab a spot at after placing our order. Came here on an impulse decision since it is just across the street from the bus stop. I'm so glad we did! The family that runs this diner is adorable and so friendly and welcoming. The service was great and the food was inexpensive and delicious! I had blueberry pancakes with bacon and eggs. My sister had an omelette with potatos. It doesn't get better than this! I'm telling you, as far as traditional diners go in Boston (the very few), this place is top notch for several reasons. The top two are price (value!) and quality. Even with the pandemic and inflation, their prices have still not caught up with the rest of Boston, plus the servings are very good sized. My wife and I always get the same thing - corned beef hash omelet, which comes with home fries and toast. It's two meals for both of us - we always save half of it for breakfast the next morning. I love this diner. It's a basic, neighborhood diner with good food, good coffee, and excellent prices. Right across from Forest Hills station, this makes a great stop in before you get on the T. The people working behind the counter always have smiles and conversation to share. The people in the diner are obviously neighborhood regulars and you'll see the same faces again and again. The food is solid, basic food. The eggs, potatoes, bacon, and toast is a large portion and you easily fill up. At $6, this is impossible to beat. And you get unlimited coffee!!! Oh yes. Sign me up. Perfectly simple! This cheap and simple diner is very straight forward. I spent a week on the road in Iceland living off bread and trail mix so I was craving a proper American diner breakfast and this place gave me just that, for under $7! I got the 2 eggs with bacon breakfast special which also came with toast, home fries and coffee. The coffee was the only thing was just "meh". I have had worse but it wasn't particularly tasty. My food came out in under 5 minutes and I scarfed it down happily. Also a note - great place for solo diners. Almost everyone in there was on their own and eating happily. The one thing was its the kind of place where you leave and a smell like a college cafeteria stays on your clothes and hair. So I'd recommend waiting to shower until after you go here... It's hard to find a decent breakfast place around Boston. Surprisingly. There are plenty of weekend brunch places, but weekday breakfast is tough--even tougher to find a place to get breakfast at, say, noon. I just moved from Cambridge where mynon-Dunkin Donut options were the Rosebud (Somerville, actually), Andy's Diner, or IHOP. Rosebud is kinda gross, Andy's is horrendous, and IHOP is IHOP (which is fine, but it's IHOP). The first time I stopped by Forest Hills Restaurant, I had low expectations (but there's not much else around Forest Hills). I thought it would be something like Andy's--a greasy spoon with runny eggs, plain potato home fries, awful coffee, soggy bacon... It's not. It's actually good. I've been there three times and the home fries are consistently well-seasoned, the eggs cooked how I like them, good bacon, good toast, and the 3 egg special totals $6. Coffee's not so good, but you can always just stop by Java Jo's after. read more

Great food for a great price! I've been here twice with my boyfriend and we're in love. Especially for him and he is pretty picky about his food. We got two giant plates of food (french toast, with eggs and bacon) and an extra side of home fries for about $20. I generally don't enjoy home fries as much, but the ones they make here are absolutely the bomb. I would say they're even better than the home fries my bf makes, but he would be jealous if he say this. This place isn't like any typical restaurant where you have someone waiting on you, which I actually appreciate, but the staff are really nice. You place your order at the counter and then pick a table and wait for your order to be called. When it gets busy, the wait for the food could be a little long (40mins or so), but I don't mind this as much since you can see the guys working the grill, so you know what you get is fresh. After coming here, I don't think I can ever go back to IHOP again for breakfast. You really can't beat it with giant plates of good food for 2 people under $25. read more

This has to be the single worst place in Boston I have been to. About the only thing going for this diner is that it is cheap. But the result is mediocre food with horrendous wait times. We arrived today at 11:15. There were 2-3 guys at the grill plus a super friendly woman taking orders. We had 4 people in front of us in line. No one's was complicated. My wife and I had 2 eggs with bacon and home fries and everyone before us had similarly simple meals. Our food was finally available at 12:20. Yes, over 1 hour for food that was only OK. The guys in front of us who ordered pancakes waited a good 20 minutes after we got ours for their dishes. That's pretty close to 90 minutes for pancakes. They didn't look happy. There are some good reviews for this place but I really cannot see how they are possible. It's not like the place was understaffed. There is no service that they provide so the 4 people behind the counter should be able to get eggs out in a reasonable amount of time. Ok so maybe if you have a family of 6 the few dollars you save per person could be worth it over Dogwood a few doors down. But if you have a job, even getting something close to minimum wage your time is valuable enough to make skipping this waste of space an easy decision. read more
