Then the hood close sensor was damaged and they performed the worst fix with a jumper wire I have ever seen. I build classic cars and engines as a hobby and I have never seen the incompetence I witnessed with this place. I am absolutely shocked and mortified by the workmanship. The owner never returned my call either. They lied about the status of the car throughout the process. They said they were working on it, only to discover it was sitting outside. When I picked it up, it was absolutely filthy, covered in dirt, greasy paw prints everywhere, no mat used in the inside. Stay away from this place!

Predatory upsell at Signal Ave location: Refused single spark plug fix on my stranded 19-year-old…read moredaughter's car Review (1-star): This is a serious warning for parents, students, and anyone driving in/around Albuquerque--especially near UNM or the northeast heights area. My 19-year-old daughter was on her way from Farmington to the University of New Mexico when her check-engine light began flashing early one morning. She pulled over safely about 30 miles from campus--alone, scared, and hours from home. I called Brown's Automotive Experts and spoke with a man named Chris (at the 6401 Signal Ave NE / Far Northeast Heights location). Chris mentioned he has four daughters of his own and assured me he would "take care of her." That reassurance meant a lot in the moment. He called back with the diagnosis: one cracked spark plug causing the misfire. He then immediately recommended replacing all spark plugs plus a fuel-injection service--totaling $1,800. I asked for the price to replace just the spark plugs; he quoted $1,300. I explained we couldn't afford that and requested they replace only the one cracked plug so she could safely reach school and we could plan the rest later. Chris refused. The shop would not do a single spark-plug replacement. It was pay $1,300 for the full set or just the diagnostic fee--and they'd send her back on the road with the flashing light and misfire still active. They were ready to release a teenage driver with a known engine issue rather than perform the minimal, diagnosed repair. This felt like blatant upselling that took advantage of her vulnerability and my concern as a parent 150+ miles away. I've never posted a review this strongly, but I won't stay silent when a business exploits a young woman's roadside emergency to push unnecessary $1,300-$1,800 services. If you have college kids, teenage drivers, or travel through Albuquerque's northeast side, avoid Brown's Automotive Experts - Far Northeast Heights (6401 Signal Ave NE). This is a very honest business that doesn't try to Price gouge (take it from someone who received many, many quotes). They did a fantastic job on rebuilding my suspension, replacing my CV axles, and putting in new front and rear brakes, among other work. Seriously, I couldn't believe the night and day difference before and after I had the work done. It was like I was driving a new car. They officially have a customer for life (or at least, as long as I'll be in Albuquerque). I highly recommend them for your auto servicing needs.

Turns out that his mechanics didn't replace a vacuum hose. It was sitting on top of the engine.

On March 26 I went to Northside in person to make an appointment to have my car serviced. I gave them a list of what needed to be done which was only standard recommended routine maintenance. I was told to bring my car in by 7:30 AM March 28th and to plan on two to two and a half hours to perform the work. Got my car there at 7:30. At 12:00 I had not received any information on the status of the service being done. I gave them a call and all I got was a recording. Left a message and waited till 1:00 for return call. I called again and got no answer, left another message. At 2:30 a friend took me up to check on what was going on. I went into the office and the guy I had been dealing with (wish I had gotten his name), was sitting there eating his lunch. He told me that he had gotten my messages and was going to get back to me when he was through eating. Apologized for my car not being taken care of yet but they were ready to get in shortly. At 3:10 we drove by again and my car was still sitting outside. Went in and got another apology and said they are going get in now. Told him not to bother as I was taking my car. Then he had the nerve to ask me if Monday would work for me. You can imagine what my response was. Will never be able to review the quality of work they perform.

Ohhhh, we will get back to you asap. Lie 2. That never happened. Three hours later I call. Told it will def be done in 2 hours and they will call. Lie 3. You keeping count? Call again twice two hours later. Told I will call you back in 10 mins. Lie 4. Do you think it's over? Nahhh, I only get them on the phone when they are trying to upsell me on things they have no idea about as I'm a new customer, so recommending work based on ether. Then comes the last lie of the day. Lie 5: will call. you back in 10 mins to give you a time to pick it up. Alas, not a word. I get in an uber to get to them before 5:30....so basically 8 hours for an oil change at this point. My car is outside with the few things in the passenger seat thrown onto the dashboard (water bottle, tissue box, hand sanitizer). Never got a call. Just checked out without one word of apology or one honest statement about what created the backup other than 'we've had a busy day' so apparently appointments are meaningless. Hopefully the actual car service does not align with their hideous customer service. A new low for auto repair. Just staggering lack of courtesy.
