Down side: There was burnt pieces of cheese which was probably left in the oven on my pizza and in the box. Which appear that the oven was not cleaned prior to putting my pizza in oven.

This is a small business and YELP reviews make a difference. Be kind if the pizza isn't what you've "expected" Again, you won't find this style outside of the Pittsburgh area... understand your icons! Third: toppings are not methodically distributed like Dominoes: so the plus side is you often get "more" ... just because there's 10 pieces of pepperoni on one slice and four on another is part of the fun!! Shelly's never gets enough credit because Turtle Creek is off the beaten 'burgh.... Let's support this great iconic Pittsburgh restaurant!!!! One of my biggest regrets moving away from Pittsburgh is moving away from the greatest hidden pizza gems in America... yes I love Pepe's and John's of Bleecker, I love Malnatis and Gino's East... but you can take a Pittsburgh Pizza boy out of the city... you just can't take Pittsburgh Pizza outta the boy!

First impression was that the color scheme, decorations, and menu all seemed to be dated and uninspired. The staff were polite and attentive. I ordered the salad and Salmon Oscar. The salad was good and the blue cheese dressing I chose was house-made. It was good. My girlfriend got the wedge salad which I think was a bit expensive since it was a $6 up charge for a wedge of iceberg lettuce from the standard salad that came with the entrees. My Salmon Oscar with asparagus was very good. I enjoyed every bite of the salmon and crab. My daughter's chicken parm came with a ton of linguini. My girlfriend got the signature crab cakes which she said were mostly crab and not filler. So while I thought the menu was dated when reading it the food was well executed.

My wedding soup and my husband's French onion soup were delicious. The wedding soup was loaded with meatballs and chicken. My husband has a thing for French onion soup and tries it every chance he gets. He said this may have been the best ever. We split a Reuben sandwich and upgraded to onion rings. The waitress brought us each a half portion so we didn't have to divide it ourselves, which was nice. There was plenty of meat on the sandwich, making it acceptable, not great but good enough. Onion rings were very good. Dessert sounded tempting, a cherry crème brûlée. It was okay, kind of like cherry jello with a sugar crust on top. A bit disappointing to say the least. Our waitress was on top of filling the water glasses and was very nice. Now for the bad news and why I'm only giving 3 stars. I went to the ladies room before eating and there was no hot water to wash my hands. I asked my husband if the men's room had hot water and he said no. We both let it run but it never got hot, not even warm. Then I noticed (after drinking several glasses of water unfortunately) that there was a crack in my water glass. I mentioned it to my husband and he said, "you should see the chips in the glass tabletop over her on my side". I get it that wear and tear happens, but these things should be caught before serving guests. And as far as the hot water...how do servers and kitchen workers properly clean their hands after using the toilet without hot water? So the food is fairly solid and reasonably priced. But be on the lookout for chipped glassware and table tops. And use your own hand sanitizer if you have it!

It's a nice enough setting, though we appeared to be the sole diners at 5:30pm on a Wednesday evening. The menu consists of mainly small bites (appetizers/tapas) and some entrees. We elected to go with the small bites to share and ordered the hummus, bruschetta, and shrimp. All were tasty and quite enough to fill us, though I will ask the inevitable question that I see happen at restaurant after restaurant -- why, oh why, do you INSIST upon setting out a disproportionate number of xxx (in this case shrimp) for your guests? I swear I think you do this on purpose for the pleasure of seeing your guests fight over the remaining xxx (again, shrimp in this example)... Sigh... it just seems unnecessary. The shrimp came 3 to an order for 2 of us... Do you not see an issue here? They were tasty. Whatev. I give up. Final words -- food was pleasantly arranged on the plate, our server was pleasant and engaging, and all was good.

It has stood up through the test of time and I'm glad to see the business continues to flourish. Their food is tasty and beer is cold but what makes this place stand out from the rest is the people. The staff who works there is always polite and attentive. You can find the two brothers who manage the place often times laughing and conversing with patrons at the bar whenever they are not hustling and helping out with running orders to tables. The atmosphere feels like you're getting a hug from a friendly neighbor as a familiar face is not far away. While getting a spot at the bar on a Friday or Saturday night can be tough, don't fret because there is ample seating in the back room or on the open/closed porch (depending on the weather). The location is clutch. There is a Shop N Save across the street if you decide to get groceries. Need gas? There's a gas station two buildings up. Need more beer for after the bar? There's a beer distributor attached to the gas station! Need your car worked on? There's an auto shop next door! Drop your vehicle off and stop in to Carl's while you wait! Simply put, the place is a classic!

From the outside it's a basic building and appears to be a bbq restaurant. Upon entry you're transformed back in time a bit, starting with the old school kool cigarette machine. The vibe is less restaurant and more bar. Full bar; high tops, and a few booths. We were told to sit where we want. We were immediately offered drinks and menus. The menu styling is very basic. No colors, pictures, bells or whistles. It's a white piece of paper typed up in the default font and laminated. Personally, I found it charming. The server told us about their specials not on the menu: po boy, Mac and cheese, and shrimp. We ordered off the standard menu. I got a Cuban sandwich. Co workers had wings and ribs. Everyone loved their food. We also got a couple of salads. It was colorful, fresh, and abundant. Everything was super affordable. $5 salads and $11 entrees. Service was prompt abr friendly. We were in Pittsburgh suburbs for three days and this was the best food we had. It was casual and straight forward, but friendly and yummy. If you're visiting North Versailles I definitely recommend this place from the options available.
