I'm kinda conflicted on how to rate Flameburger. It's a small diner place that you can almost always count on to be open. Lunch burger specials that come with fries and cole slaw. But, the food while tasty, never really sits well. A few hours later I inevitably realize ah, this is why I stopped eating there. So, if you've got a stomach of steel when it comes to grease, want an inexpensive burger in a diner setting, this is your place. This place it's dirty, my hostess whom left me on hold for over 20 minutes was the same one I had when I finally hung up and drove to flame burger because obviously customers on the phone are not worth there time . The only good thing they have going for them is there open 24/7 because they need all the customers they can get especially the drunken people who can't taste there food. I ordered a flame burger and it was over priced and bland no flavor at all . My side of onion rings also rang up the bill another 8$ just for a side of rings . Not worth the money or experience . I travel for business so I always use Yelp to find unique places to try. I worked until 2 a.m. last night and hadn't eaten for over 12 hours so I was looking forward to a burger. This place had decent ratings so I decided to give it a try. Being in the restaurant business for over 30 years - I can't help but observe how an operation runs the whole time I'm there. And excepting for the waitress (very pleasant and hard working) - this place was a train wreck. First was the total lack of sanitation. The grill area was NASTY and the cook's habits were some of the worst I've ever seen. He would frequently wipe sweat off his face with his ungloved hands - then immediately handle raw meat, French fries, etc. I overheard another customer say they had just witnessed him use the bathroom and not wash his hands. Some young kids at the counter complained about how long their food took and the fact that the food was wrong - so the cook's response was to pick a fight with them and start tossing around the N-word. Needless to say - I walked out. Whoever owns this place better address this situation quickly. Their night cook is costing them customers with his attitude and is on his way to putting people in the hospital with his food safety practices. read more

A friend recently bought a house nearby and we stopped by on a late night for a bite to eat. Atmosphere is that of a classic diner. Sit at a booth or at the counter and watch your delicious burger being made. We both ordered burgers. Service was friendly and fast. Burgers were quite good. Wasn't in love with the fries, they're the thicker crinkle cut variety. I was surprised how big their menu was as it included breakfast and other sandwiches. It is definitely nice to be able to get a solid meal at a comfortable place at any time of the day. read more

Flameburger is the closest place to me that serves everything into the wee hours. It's perfectly honest, and perfectly ok food. Not bad. Not great, but the portions are plentiful and you'll leave full and satisfied. read more

Treated horribly! And I'm not afraid to say it, pure racism! Walked in to get a take out order, was not greeted at all there's no clear signage describing where I can order so I walked toward register and simple asked how do I place a takeout order? The server yells your gonna have to wait your turn! I see she's busy I wait calmly for 15 minutes just standing there! She doesn't update me or even make eye contact making orders even going in the back for a 5 minute stint finally the cook whos just been looking at me along with other employees goes to retrieve her. She comes and says what do you want I ask does it always take this long? She loses it! You don't see I'm busy and all this I ask her name she gets super pissed tells me her name and walks away again leaving me standing. I walked out clearly seeing this person didn't want to treat me with dignity because she made a knee jerk judgment of me and who I was as a black man. Best kept secret. I love this place. It is like stepping back in time. If you want a low key lunch or dinner that takes you back to the days of Woolworths (in the best sense) hit this place. INCREDIBLE burgers. The best. Hash Browns to die for. And the wait staff - genuine, sincere, sweet as pie. I go there just for smiles. Okay, the decor is not cutting edge... OR IS IT??? I love it. My experience with Flameburger left me mixed feelings. The food was indeed of the highest diner quality and the atmosphere was truly old school. However, the service was a little unacceptable, considering I was ignored because I brought something to their attention that probably helped future customers. Taco Bell? McDonalds? Perkins? Um....no. This is the place for some drunk food. I've been here twice and only really remember one of them. I know I had a burger both times. Let me tell you about the second time. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. Holy monkeys. It was delicious. Not just I'm drunk and hungry like I haven't had a meal in 37 days but like good enough to come back sober and inhale the friggin burger. It was so good. Fresh cut tomatoes, onions and lettuce on a soft pillowy bun. Some thick cut freshly cooked crispy bacon and greasy cheese resting on a perfectly sized meat patty. It was so good. Honestly I would say it's one of the best burgers in the cities. No it can't compete with the bulldog or the nook or wherever you go for a 9 dollar burger. This is a greasy spoon diner burger and it's the perfect one. Love it. Though I probably never get here without some libations in my system I have a feeling if I ever did I would be equally as happy with the food. read more

Came here for lunch today, old school diner. You get to watch the cook working the grill as it is just behind the bar when you walk in. Friendly service, low wait times (it was around 1pm, so a little after rush time), excellent food. I ordered the half pound flameburger with grilled onion and cheese with fries. The bun to cheese to onion to meat ratio was spot on, as was my cooking preference (medium). The fries are crinkle cut, fried to perfection. I have had burgers from many of the go-tos in the Twin Cities and this is competing for the top spot for a traditional burger! I will definitely be going back soon. read more

Let me preface this with: I am 63 years old. I don`t believe I am just a cranky old man. I am not looking for a free meal. I spent 22 years cooking professionally. Have been a "regular" (1-2 times per month) for the past 5 years. Only twice have we had any issue with the food or service. First: About 2 years ago when my wife`s steak sandwich was too bad a cut of meat to bite or chew. They promptly and politely fixed the problem. Second: Just last night (05/19/17) we had one of the worst experiences ever dining out. When I asked if I could have onions cooked with or in my hash browns, the waitress told me how they only cook the onions on the side and then put them on the hash browns before serving (I have always been able to get the onions cooked with the potatoes, I only asked because there was a different cook on duty). The food arrived and my wife`s steak sandwich was medium well instead of "rare as you can get it". My hash browns were so brown and crispy that it was difficult to find any evidence of potatoes. The sausage patties had been cooked under a meat press for so long that they were dry and actually crusty hard on one side. I do have to say that the over-easy eggs were perfect. But, the toast was black and cold so that the butter/margarine/spread would not melt. When I attempted to send the food back, pointing out the sausage, in particular, the waitress informed me that "this is how we cook them". She asked, no, demanded that I tell her what I wanted her to do with the food (I almost told her exactly what to do with it). I just said that I wasn`t going to eat it and that I didn`t want anything else. In the meantime, the cook made a new steak sandwich for my wife (grumbling all the time about having to do it and telling the regular cook, back from break, how the steak wasn`t rare enough to go along with her now cold fries. We asked for a to-go box and the check. I paid $16.00 for a steak sandwich, coffee, and a coke and left. We won`t be back. I got much better treatment from the girl at Taco Bell on the way home. read more

There are hardly any 24/7 options for food in the Twin Cities. Flameburger has pretty average diner food - nothing interesting or super tasty. The waitress we had was really nice. Not great, but better than perkins, though I would not choose to come here if there were more options. read more

I grew up just down the road from this place and I have a lot of good memories here. When I have a craving for a cheeseburger Flameburger always comes to mind. Fresh ground beef that is char grilled over an open flame, perfectly grilled onion, gooey cheese and crisp bacon. An extra $2.00 will get you a heaping plate of hot crinkle fries. And you can get your burger as big as you want. Even up to the mega mega which is 3 pounds! And you can see everything being cooked from your seat. Classic 1960's feel to the place. Horrible customer service, they argued with me when they messed up my to-go order....really over 2 missing pancakes. The batter costs them $0.25, that cost them a local customer and all the people I will tell in the neighborhood. They at least could have apologised, if not given compensation.
