We came here for a casual celebration dinner on a Sunday evening. It was very quiet, not the usual crowded, BUT it was great. There were people, but a little more subdued. Service was very good, food was also very good. It fit the bill for this evening! read more

Really bad service, food arrived luke warm and not at the same time. We received $5 off of our bill for our inconvenience which was kind of insulting. Not planning to return. read more

Extremely disappointing. Very few vegetables on the menu, and the cauliflower side I had was very greasy. Not a good restaurant for those who enjoy vegetables or healthy eating (everything is quite greasy/buttery). The dining area is also very loud. read more

I would recommend this place for people coming to Rochester, but caution others that the dishes often rely on flavored sauces. They are good, and i have visited twice. First, ask for bread! It's a small 2.50 charge and they bring you fresh warm bread that melted In your mouth. The ahi fish tacos had delicious fish and sauce but the taste of the shell often overpowered the meal because you are eating mostly shell, less sustenance. Take the food out of the shell and the app is great! The salmon dish was delicious as well and has been the best thing I have eaten there so far. The tangy sauce contributes positively to the overall taste. My fiancé was excited they offered a vegetarian option and got the Quinoa Meatball with Zucchini noodles with roasted pepper sauce. She said it was a good meal but felt that it was nothing crazy to write home about. Overall, I would recommend this to others because it's a beautiful building, trendy food with great presentation, and wonderful service. read more

Food here is good but I feel they are missing an element of creativity and interest. I prefer their dinner menu to brunch. Brunch is extremely bland in my opinion, and I have tried a variety of entrees. For dinner, occasionally they have live music which is fun. Drinks are good although a touch over priced. A little more flavor in the food overall would go a long way read more

This place is EXCELLENT! Their breakfast is the best in town. Service is impeccable. We never had to ask for refills and the portions are great for the price. The place is wide open so you don't feel crammed anywhere you sit. Definitely a place we will visit weekly! read more

Stopped here for breakfast after driving by a number of times. The atmosphere is modern but a bit sterile. The staff was friendly enough but not spectacular. The food was pretty average. Huge portions including a cinnamon roll as big as a dinner plate. Unfortunately it was also stale. We've heard good things about their lunch and dinner menus so perhaps those are better. For breakfast I'd give them a pass. read more

Went for breakfast. We tried the salmon eggs Benedict and veggies scrambled. Big size portion, decent price and great service. The salmon didn't taste great hence the 4 instead of 5 stars read more

This was my first time trying Five West for lunch. Very busy even for midweek lunch but was seated within 5 minutes. Had the Prime Rib Sandwich. Perfect size portions. Sandwich was amazing. Recommend any business lunch meeting at Five West. read more

Came here for dinner with coworkers and was pleasantly surprised by the decor and food. It's a sports bar with a pretty large seating area and has clean and modern interiors. Service and food were excellent, I got the quinoa burger and it was filling and delicious. My coworkers liked their meals too, except for one who thought her Cesar salad had too many pickles. Portion sizes are decent and prices are reasonable. There is plenty of parking space. It was loud, there was also live music on Friday evening which nobody was really paying any attention to. read more

We came here on a Friday night. We asked if there were any deals. We were told late night happy hour prices. Service was great, as was the food. When the bill came, regular prices were listed. When we asked the server, she said she "thought it was Thursday" and specials only run M-Th. No price adjustment. A few of us based our orders on the assumption that we would get a discount. Way to keep your customers satisfied, guys. read more

Nice service, Food is nothing special and Ambiance is pretty good! Thumbs down on walleye sandwich but two thumbs up on the calamari! Breakfast is okay and again the choices are nothing special. read more

Had a great time at the party they had last Saturday. Live bands out in the parking lot with great music, food and drinks. The weather started out kinda bad but the afternoon got better later on. I've come here a couple other times and always had great food and service. Their menu is unique and mid priced. I recommend the fish tacos. read more

Awesome service. Had not had good service like that in years! Good was good, but odd sound on standard food. Yummy. Good view. Nice atmosphere. Can't wait to return. read more

I never liked going to this restaurant. Everything seems to be out of a box or not even have any good food or flavours. I will easily call this place a bar not a restaurant, as with restaurant I will have high expectations. Which this place does not have any of it. read more

Very cool restaurant. Very modern and I love the outdoor patio, we like to come here for lunch a lot! Its also great for after the movies. Nice full menu with very different items. Their bloody marys are awesome too, big drink menu. Theres lots of tv's to watch the games. read more

Visited and had the Tuna burger. It is seared Tuna on a bun with a soy flavored sauce and wasabi slaw. It was very good, sort of like a sushi taste and I love sushi, but the slaw made the bun soggy. I actually think it would be fantastic without the bun. The atmosphere was nice and I liked it enough to come back again to watch a game. I had the boneless wings and fish tacos the second time. Wings were average at best. Fish tacos (a specialty) were not very flavorful, and it is very questionable whether the fish was actually Mahi. It seemed much more like cod or some less firm whitefish to me. read more

Great food, great atmosphere! One of the best places in town. A must have if you are new to town. Can get pretty pricey. The balsamic steak salad is fantastic and a must have. Mac and cheese is another favorite. read more

Stopped in for lunch and asked the waiter for a recommendation- he said the blackened chicken quinoa salad is their most popular lunch item- sounded good! When it arrived, there was about 3oz of chicken and about 1 cup of spinach- no feta at all. Needless to say, for $15 I was very dissatisfied- I mentioned this to the waiter who then sent the manager over, she comped my ice tea- really? But asked if I wanted to order more food. No thanks- the salad should have been enough. Probably not going to visit again anytime soon. read more

Five West - New American Near Me - Rochester, Minnesota

I have been to Five West on several different types of occasions: party gathering, dinner and breakfast. Overall, I'd say this place offers pretty good food at a reasonable price. I especially like to have after-church breakfast at Five West. Again, the price is very reasonable and the service is good. It gets a bit noisy in there, but I am able to handle that pretty well. The after-church breakfast is something we do with friends, and one of those friends is pretty grumpy when it comes to food appreciation. The last three times we have had breakfast at Five West, the food is only lukewarm. Today, the hash browns and eggs were cold. I've asked to have the hash browns replaced two out of the last three visits this summer. Once the (replacement) hot hash browns arrive, I can use them to warm the eggs. My friends, on the other hand, get pretty sullen and grumpy with the cold food. Can't really blame them. I like Five West, but I'm about out of options when it comes to steering these friends to come with me. Can't figure out why they can't get a hot, even warm, Sunday breakfast to the table. read more

A really great restaurant! We've dined there two nights in a row. Both times service has been excellent. This evening my husband had several dietary restrictions because of some upcoming blood tests he's having at Mayo. Well, our server took his lengthy list of restrictions to the kitchen and asked the chef what he could do. They altered our entre pick to make it work. It was great! So thoughtful. And by the way my tuna burger, sweet potato fries and fish tacos were delicious. read more

I have stopped at Five West several times and have always had a very good meal; especially the tacos and chicken wantons and flatbread pizza. The atmosphere is excellent and the service is friendly and engaging. The restaurant is very clean and it has a great dog friendly patio also. read more

For how busy the place was when we were there, I would have expected the the food was going to be outstanding. Instead, the food was not so good! chicken nachos - dry, almost like they had been sitting for a while. The burgers, were okay, and the grilled salmon - marginal at best. Sometimes I joke with my wife about going back to Five West, and all I get is the old "No thanks!". read more

I came here with family after my nephew's graduation. He recommended it. I liked it. Its a big restaurant with lots of TVs. So you could watch sports when you eat. My family is from Minnesota so were really happy when the Vikings were playing. They have a good menu. I decided to take a chance. I like fried fish sandwiches, but have never had luck with walleye. I'm not a fan. But to their credit, it was really good. Had this been the first time I tried walleye, I would definitely have tried it again. our party had many different things. Their pizzas are good(especially the mushroom gouda and the BBQ Shortrib), their sweet potato fries and burgers were really good. That's the nice thing about going to lunch with a big party...You can try a lot of things. The service was attentive and good. This place is right by Costco, so you can have lunch then do your shopping. read more

Nice place, bad breakfast. On a high from the previous night's awesome Thirsty Belgian dinner, this experience reminded me that great food and great service have NOTHING to do with price, location, atmosphere. It's about the people. Period. Asked for Non-Dairy Creamer. NOPE. Seriously? This is Rochester, MN the home of the internationally famous Mayo Clinic and home to an incredibly diverse, highly educated and cosmopolitan workforce arriving from all over the world . But nope, no non-dairy creamer. Egg Rolls (literally Egg Rolls stuffed with scrambled eggs and served with "homemade" sausage gravy. 90% WonTon wrapper and 10% egg. Saves money on eggs I guess. Gravy Pro Tip - drain the grease before you mix in the milk, etc. so you don't have a puddle of pure grease floating on top. Salmon Eggs Benedict. Kudos to upscaling this traditional breakfast fare, but when you specifically ask how I want my salmon done (thank you, I like it rare and ordered it so) then don't serve me scraped up bits of over-grilled salmon mush. Service. Perfunctory at best. You can't fool me with your fake smile and your eyes were wishing we would just leave so you could go back to your phone. read more

Food was awesome. Really really good, quality and quantity wise. Atmosphere was very cool, nice interior design ans calm but not too calm. Great for friends or family. Superb service and reasonable price (on the higher end). read more

This restaurant was very good although their prices were a bit high in my opinion $20-24 for an entree is $5 too much in my humble opinion. I had the quinoa burger it was very tasty even though I'm a confirmed carnivore. The wait staff is excellent. This place is great for the hipster crowd but if you are looking for a great meal/value look elsewhere.I also watched the manager staff talk and giggle for a good 45 min which is unfortunate as the wait staff ran their tails off... read more

Nicer restaurant put out by the owners of the Loop Bar guys (Downtown Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, etc). A lot of the same menu items, but with some more upscale options. They have a similar happy hour to the downtown location-- late night HH means $6 pizzas and they are quite large for the price! I had the Philly pizza and could barely finish half. The inside looks similar to the SLP Loop, but a little nicer. It has the same open kitchen and booths in the middle, with a decent sized bar. Seems like it would be a good place to watch a game, if you wanted to go a little more upscale. The patio is also nice, although it does overlook a fairly busy street and not much else (unless you're into man-made lakes). read more

The food is good but waaay overpriced. Drinks are about $9.50 and I think they use just rail pour alcohol. Food was decent but not amazing, still just overpriced for what you get. Great location though. read more

Trendy restaurant not in the downtown portion of Rochester. Unique menu items from appetizers to entrees to drinks. Love their breakfast menu! The Belgian waffles are my favorite. Cute outdoor patio area. Wonderful wait staff. read more

I stay away from meat as a rule- I hate to say I'm vegetarian because I'm not all that strict. Anyhow, they had several great sounding veggie selections. I went with the veggie lasagna and it was amazing! Not your typical lasagna, more like a layered creamy, smokey, slightly spicy polenta. My description does not do it justice, but it was the best meal that I've had out for a long time, you'll just have to trust me on this one. Washed it down with one of the many craft beers on the list. My husband enjoyed his burger, although it was a bit messy. His side caesar salad was huge, I ate half of that. His fries were great with some yummy garlic on top. I ate some of those too. My only complaint is that I just finished my leftovers. read more

Amazing atmosphere, nice menu, and option to sit outside in the summer and spring. Great food although personally I would hav eluded to have a big burger option on the menu. read more

Our entire family LOVES this place. We've always had great service, amazing food (fish tacos are fantastic!) - and great service. Really cool modern atmosphere as well. Highly recommend as a "must try" in Rochester! read more

Very tasty food and solid service. Flank steak salad is my favorite. Very clean modern look inside. The patio is very nice.

Edamame was wonderful so were the entrées. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded and took almost no time to be seated.

Went out for a double date, didn't know what to expect but were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the food and service! It's pricey but worth it in our eyes! I'd rather pay more for good food and amazing service than pay less for cheap food and mediocre service! read more

This restaurant is a must. It's more on par with twin Cities restaurants and offers more unique flavors than most restaurants in Rochester. I wish they were closer to 100% made from scratch, but they do a good job. The space is really cool and even though I went in the winter, their summer patio would be fun. Pricing wise, they offer a good value and I'd go back if back in Rochester. read more

We sat at the bar on a Sunday morning due to the wait, but excellent service and food. My husband got the corned beef hash and was impressed by the size of the dish and the flavor. The blueberry pancakes were a generous portion of 3 - extra sweet and fluffy! My mother got the veggie scramble- she thought it was cooked to perfection and also received a huge portion. We will absolutely be back! read more

Tried Five West some time ago. Duck was dry. Went back for anniversary today and had short ribs. Drink was watered down, asparagus was stringy and tough, ribs were a bit greasy. Will be a while before I try again. My wife had ancient grain chicken bowl and was very happy with it. read more
