This is my first time trying Five Star Seafood Restaurant at the San Gabriel Hilton Hotel. I did not try their dim sum, so this review is for the banquet dinner only. (See my photos below). I attended a banquet dinner event last week. The venue was nice, and it was very spacious inside. Most dishes tasted delicious and flavorful, and my favorite dishes were the lobster, steamed fish, abalone, veggies (bok choy), and chicken the most. The portions were a decent size. The service was not bad, but it could be better.

The bolo BBQ bun is SO good! And such a good deal! Pineapple top is crisp and the dough on the bottom is soft and pillowy. Filling is generous too. Definitely get these if you come.

游水龍蝦 for 99 cents

Came during a weekday evening. There were plenty of parking underground. Place wasn't packed. Came for the 99 cents lobster special. If you have 7 or less people, you can purchase a lobster for 99 cents. If you have 8 or more people, you can purchase two lobsters for 99 cents each. We ordered the 白雲鳳爪拚海, 香草美极焗羊扒, and 海鮮炒麵. Got the 游水龍蝦 for 99 cents. The food was all too salty for us. The jellyfish was spicy. The meat from lamb chop wasn't attached to the bone. We suspect the meat was actually beef. The chow mein was descent and crispy. The lobster was good, but way too salty. The noodles under the lobster were extra salty. The complimentary red bean dessert soup at the end was surprisingly plain. We paid approximately $80 for the meal.

Visited with my partner to this massive restaurant that's fit into one huge room. Once you enter, you'll see massive TV screens all around. Interior is very much of a hotel as it resides within the Hilton. There's plenty of tables which is great for packed hours. You can grab a number from the receptionist and the numbers go by quick which is a good sign to see. Parking - Free above and underground parking. Underground parking is connected to next door plaza which is also a super busy plaza. Plenty of parking to go around but can get extremely packed. Staff here is quick and friendly, a bit of a caveat though as it can get pretty messy. This dim sum restaurant is traditional with staff carting around for people to order. No set menus so there's a bit of a wait on that end if you're looking for specific plates of food. Food wise, it's standard to your traditional dim sum restaurants. From ranges of siu mai, har gow, noodle roll dishes, to chicken feet and breads/buns. Price wise is on par with other restaurants as well which is great. Overall, a decent dim sum restaurant that has long waits when busy but is quick and efficient. It's nice to see a dim sum restaurant that's not understaffed as there's plenty of staff everywhere you look. Only downside that I've faced is that the staff can be forgetful, have to ask multiple times for certain items such as the check or specific drinks, etc.

It's definitely a traditional dim sum spot with the servers pushing the carts which is a rare sight to see these days. Nostalgia doesn't always win though, it took forever for the har gow and siu mai to come by. We basically got it towards the end of the meal. The star of the show is the pineapple bbq bun. It had the crackled top but the bbq was a bit too sweet. Also their tea is like scolding hot..like second degree burn hot so def ask for a cup of ice lol. Go early cus at 10AM it was already packed

I'm giving this place 4.5 stars for VALUE. Overall very good for cheap food on game days. They have 1 jumbo-tron screen and 2 smaller screens in the huge dining room. (For a real Chinese sports bar, go to Hilton's "Trinity Restaurant" down the hall.) Har gow, tofu skin roll, siu mai, daikon radish cake, chicken feet, lotus wrap chicken sticky rice, etc. all tasted average to good (nothing really stands out except the $3.99 weekday dim sum price) Currently they're running a promo of $0.99/lb lobster or boiled prawns with $40 dine-in purchase. 20-30 minute wait during weekday lunch. This is the Five Star Seafood that was originally in the 99 Ranch/Focus Plaza across the street. However, even though it's now inside the San Gabriel Hilton, it's not run by the hotel so you cannot use your Hilton points but they will happy accept your Amex/Hilton card (Weird I know.)

Missing 1 har gow and siu mai from photo. These items come in 4 pieces.

4 stars rating for dim sum. 2 stars rating for service. I went back to Five Stars for dim sum recently. They have moved from their previous spot (by 99 Ranch Market) to inside Hilton Hotel across the street. Access to the restaurant is much easier now compared to before. The restaurant is located on the main floor (street level) inside Hilton Hotel. The dining area is large. They are having a promotion right now where the dim sums are all one price for only $3.99 Monday through Friday; $4.99 on weekends. This is an amazing price nowadays. It's like a price roll back to over 10 years ago! The food tasted good. Service on the other hand has not changed from the last time I visited. Service is still bad. I had to ask for a cup of water three times before finally getting it. I would go back to try their dinner entrees. According to their advertisement there are dinner specials.

New location inside the Hilton Hotel! Parking can be a bit of a hassle, especially during peak hours. I brought my grandpa here for Father's Day, so I expected a long wait and we definitely got one. That said, for dim sum these days, the pricing here is still on the more affordable side, which is a plus. Food was overall just okay, nothing particularly memorable, but not bad either. Service is where things really fell short, though I usually give dim sum spots some grace here. This location is massive, taking up the entire ballroom, but it felt seriously understaffed, possibly made worse by the holiday rush. There were limited dim sum carts circulating, and it took about 25 minutes after being seated just to get plates. Not sure if I'd come back here....but maybe for dinner.

Chicken feet

Everything was soo good. The shrimp wonton//shrimp gok on the paper had the wonton skin really crispy but not stab your mouth crispy. Hargow and and siumai eas good but the hargow wrap came out so easily. I wasnt really a fan of the deep fried shrimp bwcause were is the sugar cane? Not sure if they omit because it was take out. They have the dimsum ladies here which brings the true dimsum experience back. Place is huge. It is located inside the hilton hotel. If you enter from valley, hust go straight down, pass the elevators, and another restaurant/bar. Downside is theres not really any ac unless there was just too many people the ac couldnt keep up. Dinner might be good here too. The prices arent bad. Will come back for a family dinner.

My sister stopped by here after she was getting her massage across the street so she asked me what would I like from here. I wanted Mongolian beef but they don't have that so my sister sent me the picture of their beef option and I chose the Kung Pao Beef. She got the small soy sauce noodles and also some dim sum. She said the wait took forever and they never told her how long the wait would be until after she put in her order at the restaurant which was 45 min. This restaurant is inside the Hilton hotel. If you come to a wedding or event here, they don't let you take to go if there are leftover, my sister attended a wedding here before. The Kung Pao beef was delicious and they give you a decent portion. I tried the shrimp dumplings that my sister got and it was good too. The small soy sauce noodles was a great combination to eat with the beef.

Lobster and dim sum special

Came here at 930 on a Saturday morning. The restaurant was about 2/3 full so probably would get here before 1030 to avoid waiting in line. Located inside a wedding ball room at the Hilton hotel, they have a dedicated underground parking lot as there was an employee directing us to avoid using the hotel parking lot. The dim sum is decently priced at 4.99 per dish on the weekends (3.99 weekdays) however there were no egg tarts or shrimp dumplings which is quite surprising as these are two of the top items at dim sum. Both the r beef and shrimp rice noodles rolls were fresh and tasty but other than that the rest of the dim sum was average at best. 2 stars for the food and 1 extra for the price. Probably won't be back as Atlantic is a step above in terms of price, quality, and variety.

Sanny C.

This place was busy, but pretty efficient. I checked in thinking the wait would be long. However, we got seated in less than 10 minutes. The restaurant was in like a banquet hall inside the Hilton hotel so it was pretty big. The decor was very different from the normal dim sum restaurants. However, the feel of traditional dim sum was there. They used the dim sum carts. Something I have always enjoyed at dim sum restaurants. Although the restaurant was big, but the staffs be rolling the carts near us often. It was easy to order the foods. The staffs were pretty friendly. It was a bit difficult to tag an actual server, but once we were able to, the service was quick. Finding a parking was prob more difficult than getting seated lol Foods were fresh and tasty. The only dish that didn't taste that great was the radish cakes. The radish were old so it was somewhat tough to chew. The coconut with sesame was also not that great. The staff was praising it so much. She said it was one of their popular items. Guess we ain't a fan of it. It was a bit dry and the flavors just ain't really there. Overall, I would love to dine in again.

The service was quite impressive... extremely attentive, friendly, and quick. 8/10 for the food. 10/10 for the price point 10/10 for the service. The food was definitely solid for the price point. There were a few misses, but the dishes that landed were executed really well. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area! Siu Mai 10/10 - Juicy, plump and perfectly executed. Definitely my favorite dish. Bean Curd Skin Roll in Abalone Sauce 9/10 - Flavorful with an excellent texture. The whole dish was well executed. Beef Chow Fun 8/10 - Solid and flavorful. The beef was tender, and the noodles had a great texture. Yangzhou Fried Rice 8/10 - The rice was moist and the seasoning was spot on. Shrimp Egg 8/10 - Soft and well seasoned. Generously portioned with very plump shrimp. Pork Chop Spicy Salt 8/10 - Crispy and slightly salted. It has a really great texture to it. Salted Fish and Chicken with Eggplant 8/10 - Perfectly seasoned and cooked. Generous portions of chicken, salty fish and eggplant. Chicken Feet 7/10 - It was solid. Not the best, but definitely not bad. House Special Crispy Shrimp Rolls 5/10 - The flavor of the shrimp was okay, but the rolls were really greasy. There were three very small rolls, definitely not my cup of tea. Chili Wonton 3/10 - By far my least favorite dish. The wonton skin tasted very flour-y, and hardly had any filling. The filling was also very bland and the chili oil was very underwhelming. By the way, the tea is free (I know, free tea at a dim sum spot).

Each time I've gone or taken food to go, I feel massively dehydrated after that I get a headache if I don't drink enough water. Luckily the staff was pretty on top of refilling our waters, and they often switched out our plates for clean ones. We've been going for years, and they used to allow substitutions for the set menu. The parking lot was extremely full, but we were able to find parking on the street and walked over to the front of the restaurant. We came at a busy hour, but they sat us down right away and we got a chance to sit with the menu. Some of their stuff was sold out, but we managed to get items that we really wanted to try since they served dim sum items as well as lunch specials and à la carte plates of food. I like how we were able to pick what kind of complimentary hot tea we wanted and out of the six options I picked Jasmine. I picked the dim sum items and my husband got something from their lunch specials and selected the fried rice. As each item came to the table, they checked off a receipt that listed the items we had ordered, just like other dim sum places do. Not going to lie, all the food tasted great with the Fried Rice with Diced Chicken & Salty Fish and Steamed Rice Noodle with Shrimp being my top faves. The rice was just really tasty and I didn't notice the salty fish in it till I bit into a piece of one and the chicken wasn't dry. The rice noodle with the shrimp was soft and the sauce with it wasn't overwhelming. I was surprised with the dumpling and pork buns because they were also not too dry and the truffle wasn't overpowering. The Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce did come at the end of me stuffing my face, but I tried two pieces and it was really good.
