A technician came to my house and in one hour I was up and running with the best access to the internet that I have had ever--in over 10 years. I was so pleased to have a company only a few blocks from my house that could out perform any computer people I have had in the past, including tech-support people on-line. Since then I have had several problems pop up (unrelated to the installation on the first visit) that I was unable to solve myself despite being fairly computer literate. I identified 5 problems and gave Charm City Networks a call yesterday afternoon. We agreed on 10 the next day. This morning they were at my door at the exact time and quickly solved all my problems. Here are a few words I have to sum up my impression of Charm City Networks: KNOWLEDGEABLE, EFFICIENT, FRIENDLY, REASONABLE, LOCAL. I urge anyone within their range of service to give them a try. It wasn't a cheap machine but like so many things in life, it was past its warranty period. Finding good tech help, like finding a good mechanic, electrician, or plumber, can be difficult. I turned to Yelp for help (yes, I am a poet!) and found that DNS, a small storefront shop on Greenmount Ave, just a few blocks from where I live, had great reviews. After showing up a few times when they weren't open (yes, check their open hours, only a few days a week, and then only for a few hours each day) I went by today and met the head tech Jack. He was with another customer who clearly had been coming to him for a while, and I listened as he carefully and thoughtfully ran through her issues, made sure she was clear on what was happening, and then offered to stay open a few minutes late if she needed when her repair was ready. He quickly diagnosed the issue (a charger that may or may not be working correctly) and since the charger I brought with me seemed ok offered to send me on my way. I decided to purchase a replacement charger from him just in case and his price was better than I could have gotten online. A few other notes - he has many services and their prices posted on the wall - this is super helpful. Second, he offers a discount to teachers - something I am always in favor of. Honest, good-natured, reasonably priced? Yeah DNS has all of that. The storefront is easy to miss, but if you need quality repairs for your machine, this should be your first stop. Support the locals.

I previously read that the Face ID sensor couldn't be fixed, but they said they would give it a try. They took my phone for a week but was not able to fix it. Even though I didn't get my phone fixed (it's not their fault not even apple does this repair) the customer service was second to none. Normally I am not rash, and churlish enough to toss my phone on a carpeted floor expecting it to land safely. No it bounced and hit the frame of a antique sewing machine, so perfectly that it cracked the screen...okay confession over. So this process took a week and 3 trips. I am willing to accept that some of the overall length of time is "supply chain" [they didn't have my screen model in stock]. However my only knock is the said they would call and never did. I called a few days into the wait. Young man said it was there, so I made the trip (not that far, but still not without hassle). When I arrived he looked around (I would argue that should have been done when I called) and was told to come over. All good we all make lazy mistakes sometimes. Young man was otherwise professional and polite. Anyway the work was done correctly, phone looks like new and $100 lesson in being an impulsive dolt was worth it. Lesson learned, get more sleep during the week, get some exercise, manage stress better so you don't have to go through this first world problem, a dumb problem to create for yourself.
