My husband thinks this place should be called "Five Guys Fries and Burgers." The man loves his burgers, but today the fries won him over. The burgers are good, but I wish they made it more clear that a regular burger has two patties and the "little" burger has one patty. One would have been enough since they're pretty big. I almost had so much meat that I couldn't taste the condiments that I added. I have never gotten a bad burger from this place - they do 3 things and only 3 things and by gosh I think they've got it. Burgers, Fries and Dogs. Whenever I work in the area I be sure to go and grab a bite. I brought my 84 year old mother, who uses a walker, because she was in the mood for a burger. She suggested Burger King, but I suggested 5 Guys. Staff was wonderful-held door open for her, brought our food to the table. She didn't mind the loud music since she's hard of hearing, but I suspect that's why the person taking our order heard "mustard" instead of "mushrooms" and didn't hear us order fries. Five Guys is the closest thing I can find to what In-N-Out Burger is on the East Coast. Don't get me wrong, it's not In-N-Out and is unique in it's own way but the burgers are always awesome and the fries aren't bad either. I have always found the service at this location to be very friendly and personable. The burgers are always made to order fresh and they are very generous with the portion size of fries. The burger itself is one of the best I've ever had. It's always consistent and made just the way I like it. The price might scare some people away but really I think you get what you pay for. Between the portion sizes and the quality of the food, I think the price is just about right. The fries are always hot and delicious and they use real potatoes. They also have fresh peanuts to munch on while you are waiting for your order. The only things holding me back from giving Five Guys 5 stars is I think their menu is slightly limited and sometimes the wait is long on a busy night. I also tried calling in the place my order to avoid the wait but they never answered their phone. I wish they served shakes or had some other items on their menu to choose from but then again I can see why they do things this way, to speed up the service and to focus on what they do best, making good burgers. read more

They charged me for 2 double bacon cheese burgers, when I want 2 bacon cheese burgers must of gotten lost in translation to Spanish, 1 med drink and 2 small fries came to $28. This place is delicious, They offer no nonsense burgers and fries. Some people have given negative reviews because they feel they can make a better burger or because the burgers are greasy. Are you f-ing kidding me? Burgers and fries are supposed to have high fat content. First visit to a Five Guys, and I was blown away! When I went in to place my order for take out, told the friendly young guy behind the counter it was my first time there, and he explained everything very nicely. Ordered the cheeseburger which is really a double with lettuce, tomato, pickle, grilled onions,(a nice touch!) mustard and mayonnaise. Since it was my first time, he wanted me to try the fries, so he threw them in for free! Enjoyed the soda kiosk where you can choose any variety of coke products, and customize it any way you like. I am boring and just got a Coke Zero. My favorite. Took the order home, right down the road, and proceeded to Burger heaven. The burger was juicy, flavorful and a very good quality, seasoned nicely as well. Toppings were generous, and the bun held it all together perfectly. And it was huge! This place is a great burger joint. Lets begin with the first thing you notice when you enter...HOW CLEAN THIS PLACE IS.. I'm not sure if its just this location or the whole company but they keep it very clean, in fact there is always someone cleaning tables and making sure the place is immaculate, and that's important to me. Lets also point out the open style kitchen you can see the whole kitchen from when your burger goes on the grill to when its in your stomach. The burger is great to me its messy and melts in your mouth.. i don't like reading people say its to much to handle or its too big. when i pay for something i want as much as i can get and they load the burgers. Lets also point out the free refills that's a big plus. In or around the Metro Boston, Eastern Massachusetts or even the New England area (if you haven't already noticed) we are in middle of a burger renaissance. The fast food burger we all grew up with has matured into a wildly sophisticated friendless brat. The historical support cast of characters we were all accustom to have been outcast leaving the burger center stage. On a cold and crisp Monday afternoon in early December, I dropped into a new burger chain for the very first time. As I entered I immediately got a weird sensation from the desensitized face expressions of the customers, they all seamed to be dinning without a purpose. Mothers with children, college students, laborers and professionals all in a oceanic non-aroused transfix. Even thou the temperature was warm inside it still felt cold ? I approached the ordering counter and was not even given a polite word or sign of welcome or recognition, just a blank stare like I was a thousand miles away ? I stumbled my way through the menu board somewhat of an stressful event. I had glanced at the person on the other side of the counter ready with my order........the women taking my order stared back and said "67" I thought that was her age but it was my order number. I clung to a hip wall that divided the cooking area from the customers, the wall was constructed with an extension of clear glass at the top, I stared through the glass watching them with my burger.......... the cook had the same blank expression as everyone else did. I notice my order was wrong but at that point I started to have a strange feeling that I was about to be abducted by aliens and once the wrapped burger hit the bottom of the bag I was a runnin. There was no doubt I was taking my burger back to the safety and security of my home to consume. Once I arrived I sat down and I dumped the burger out of the brown paper bag onto the kitchen table. I unwrapped it and we stared at each other....I found some Mr. Potato Head eyeballs and poked them into the top bun and stared again at the burger.........after a while I noticed that the burger was starting to slide apart. Not only was this burger not appealing it wasn't appetizing. I wasn't able to eat it as a unit just wouldn't stay together. The bun was sub par, the burger patty was tasteless and the toppings further eroded the experience. A establishment who's business model or concept is in showcasing the burger are in major denial because you have kill it. Not only has the burger changed, the people making it and consuming it have also changed. As like everything else in society we have the ability as a human race to take purity on all levels and infiltrate it with change thus endangering it and us to ashes. read more

I was craving a Five Guys hot dog and went here. It was really sloppy, the bun fell apart and everything was falling all over the place. It was funny ,considering I had two hot dogs from two different Five Guys locations in the past week and they were both immaculate and delicious. Also, the peanuts tasted super old and were dated 6/19, left out in the open air in an area where the sun hit it. They were all stale and different colors. read more

Customer service is excellent, very friendly, very quick. The wait was slightly longer than usual for 3 in the afternoon. Burgers were much thinner than usual 5 guys, as I do go about once a week. Edges of the burger and bun were burnt, edges of the top of the bun were hard as a rock, and had to brake off edges of the bun on both burgers I ordered. 1) There are peanuts everywhere: Not only they cook things in peanut oil they also distribute peanuts as a free snack so the peanuts, the shells, dust, particles are literally all over the place. If you have peanut allergy or going to be seeing someone who has one please be aware that you could be at risk of a major allergy attack after eating at this place. 2) Dubios claims: They have posters that "Everything is cooked in cholsterold free peanut oil". This is simply not true as the claim has never been proved conclusively. In fact peanut oil does deposit so called plaques into arteries and is considered to be a major risk for a host of other things, such as atherosclerosis 3) Good burgers and saggy fries: Burgers could be customized and the toppings list is extensive. The fries are not crunchy, probably attributable to the peanut oil 4) Expensive: Burger+Small Fries+Small Drink = $9 No combos offered. 3 out 5, mostly because Swampscott needed a burger place. read more

Staying in Swampscott this weekend, I thought that this was finally my one chance to try out Five Guys since I've heard so many good things about it. I got a little cheeseburger with regular fries and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they let you put on toppings at no additional cost. We got it to go and once we got back to the family kitchen, WE INHALED THAT SHIT! Well, I started on the french fries first cause I always eat my sides first and they were soooo good and filling that I couldn't even finish em myself. My cheeseburger was also very good but I wish my bun was a bit more toasted or something. Been hearing about this place for a while, wife finally gave me the green light to go there (she needed to pee so we could have been passing McDonald's and she would have told me to stop) so went! Ordered a regular (2 patty) bacon cheese burger with almost everything on it. Wife got the one patty burger. Burgers were cooked perfectly, juicy and flavorful. Fries were fantastic and fresh. i wanted tacos like you wouldn't friggin believe, and i wanted them ten minutes ago, but we were close to five guys so we went there instead. for someone who wanted tacos to leave a burger place super happy speaks volumes. upon opening the doors, there's an ever-so-slight 1950s vibe due to the red and white everywhere. i don't know exactly why i thought about the 50s but i did. i like retro, so that's cool. one of the first things i noticed was the blackboard that told where the potatoes were from that day. that rules. the line doesn't take so long, even when there are a ton of people (which is usually the case). the menu is simple; burgers or hot dogs, bacon or no bacon, cheese or no cheese. then there's a list of toppings. you're building your own burger from scratch, pretty much. i love love love this because i'm mayophobic and i don't want that white shit contaminating my food. i don't have to worry about forgetting to scream "NO FUCKING MAYO!" here because it's not supposed to be on there in the first place. YAY! the fries are awesome. they're my favorite type... the rough cut, skin-still-on kind. they weren't under- or oversalted. they have tons of bottles of malt vinegar. you surprisingly don't see that a lot around here. free refills on drinks. you'll be thankful for that when you eat a ton of free (salty ass) peanuts. the burgers are all cooked well done. you don't have a choice. somehow, these little wonderburgers still come out super juicy and delicious. and p.s. i don't know why i called them "little" cause one burger is two patties, and they're not tiny. i thought the prices were super reasonable. my boyfriend and i each had a burger and shared a large order of fries and a large drink (which was silly because we could have gotten the smaller drink and had the same amount of liquids due to the free refills) and it came in at around $16 bucks. say what you will about chains or whatever, but this is the type of place that feels like a local, awesome, no-two-patties-are-the-same burger place. i didn't feel like (literal?) crap after, either, which tends to be rare in the chain restaurant circuit for me. read more

Took a little drive to finally check out Five Guys this weekend. I got a Little Bacon Cheeseburger with fries. The Little Burger is not actually little at all, it's one patty, their regular burgers are actually all doubles. I thought the burger was good enough, it reminded me a little bit of In'N'Out if you've ever tried that. It was decent but nothing I would go out of my way for again. So after a night of partying your'e thinking... this place is what the Dr. ordered (besides rehab). So my gal pal & I headed there for lunch looking for the classic no nonsense grease fix. We figured we already did more damage to our bodies than the Patriots did yesterday (eeeek), this wouldn't kill us. Well, it didn't kill us nor did it hit the spot. I am not sure what all the hype is and how they are getting rave reviews, but to start...it isn't "cheap", $10 for a burger, smallest fry & smallest coke. The burger???? Sure you can get all the toppings...but it won't hide the flavor of greasy, low quality beef (bits of ground bone) that's smashed down to nothing and then fried to a dry death on a flat top grill. The cheese was just barely melted orange American. I made it through 1/2 the burger and chucked it. The fries????? I'm a country girl @ heart and happen to love fresh hand-cut fies and anything for that matter fried in peanut oil. but had no interest in eating more than a couple of these soggy & tasteless fries. Nothing special at all! Peanuts by the way are located on top of the tray/trash containers. There is nothing worse than having a hankering for something simple and being completly disappointed. Not only were we bummed out, we felt ripped off and wished we went to Major's in Salem... you can get a charcoal grilled 1/2 lb thick jiucy burger with fries & onion rings and a bottle of beer for $10 (including tip). 5 Guys was no match for these 2 Chicas! read more

Love, love, love this place. It's so terrible that it's less than 10 minutes from me because it is way too tempting. Their burgers are excellent. Their fries are different from your usual "fast food" fry. All this place needs to add to their menu are milkshakes. This location is always very clean. The staff is very friendly -- they actually seem happy to be at work! There can sometimes be a decent wait, but when you have burgers that are fresh and a line out the door that's not unreasonable. The burgers are amazing, with a decent selection of toppings. It feels like fast food, but it's miles ahead in quality. The fries are also incredible - very simple potatoes in peanut oil. On to the peanuts, they serve whole peanuts as a dessert in open boxes around the dining area. They keep the floor swept clean (take note Texas Roadhouse) but the smell is intense. Being allergic, it makes me nervous, and gives me a headache in the time it takes the order to come up. Obviously anyone with an allergy should avoid, although I eat a few fries every time anyhow (the oil itself doesn't bother me). My only other gripe is the cheese. American Cheese Product tastes like plastic. When they use never-frozen beef, cut raw potatoes on-site, and offer a very wide array of veggies & sauces, I would expect at least a real kind of cheese on the menu (probably 3). Despite the flaws, I love the burgers, even if I have to get friends to pick them up inside. read more

Five Guys rivals In-N-Out any day of the week. They provide thicker patties, more toppings, and a slightly more "open" environment which can either be a pro or a con depending on how much you like booths and such. I appreciate that their fries are sliced thicker than In-N-Out or McDonalds, and I really like their condiment choices (everything from relish to BBQ sauce to green peppers + your usual pickles tomatoes onions and such). The service isn't that fast since they make your hamburgers fresh but any place where double patties are standard gets at least four stars in my book. read more

I really, really like their french fries. Boy are they just the way french fries should be, pieces of recognizable potatoes with a bit of skin on, not too oily, and plenty of them even in a small order. I had grilled onions and mushrooms on my bacon burger, both also first class. I was not convinced by the burger itself, I'd give it a B- and there wasn't enough bacon for my liking. Five guys is definitely the best burger place around!! I don't eat red meat often but I love their cheese burgers and fries! They are a little pricey but its worth it once in a while. The staff is always friendly which just makes it better. We ordered from them a few weeks ago and one of the burgers was supposed to have bacon and they forgot to put it on, I called them to let them know and they told us we could get a free one next time. We went back a week or so later and thy gave us our entire order free. We only ordered two burgers and a fry but that's not the point! They have great food and customer service!! read more
