Over-hyped and over-priced. I wanted to like this place, and maybe my expectations were too high, but when you can get a better meal at In-and-Out for less than half the price of what you'll pay here, it was easy to be disappointed. Sure, they'll slather on all the condiments "at no extra charge" but there really is nothing free when you consider that their burgers are expensive to begin with. Well the peanuts are free and the fries are at least the equal of In-and-Out but the burger is more like Wendy's (ugh!), greasy from the griddle and sort of gray. I like this place too a point... The chefs know how to make a burger for sure! I completely love you could add so much stuff to the burger and it doesn't change the price. Fries they give you is ridiculous I love it. But the rest of the staff on the other hand... They all look like they need to see a therapist, they literally look like they are emotionally broken when taking your order... I have never had Five Guys before in my life but to some it is the "In-n-Out killer." I wouldn't go so far as to say that but I do like what they have to offer. You have more customibility when it comes to what you can put on your burgers so I enjoy that. You even have different types of fries. They even have free peanuts for you to munch on while you wait for your food. However that probably is why the food is more expensive than it's In-n-Out rival. It was an interesting experience. The burgers came out quickly and we were eating in no time. They have sauces for days, not just ketchup so I like having options. The burger was good but not the greatest burger in existence according to some people. The reviews on the walls are a marketing ploy to get people to see all these good reviews of the place will psychologically get people to think the place has to be good since so many people say its good and since it's bam in your face your subconscious stores that information and you think to yourself it must be true. Pretty clever. Anyway the place is clean since it's new but we shall see over time. On this side of the East Bay, it's a given that Five Guys will be compared to In n Out... Well, as a first-timer today, here are my thoughts: Clean establishment and a smile on the cashier's face, first impression is so far so good. Looking up towards the menu, what caught my eye were the variety of COMPLIMENTARY add-ons you could pick n choose for your burger. For me, what sealed the deal were grilled mushrooms. In terms of variety, they even offer A1, BBQ sauce, relish, etc. No wonder they advertise over 250,000 combinations. Oh, and they have malt vinegar as an option other than ketchup for your fries. Speaking of fries, I agree with other Yelpers: Cajun or bust! Now In n Out always has and always will have that special place in my cravings, but the thing about that is you need to take a break before you get sick of it. Five Guys would fill that void! Much better quality meat than your average fast food burger, free peanuts while you wait, custom burgers at no extra cost, and they even had Ginger Ale at the soda fountain! (I love Ginger Ale and its something that I usually don't find unless I'm at Wingstop's custom-drink Coke machine.) Needless to say, I devoured my burger. Halfway through, I witnessed an 8-year-old boy's eyes roll to the back of his after taking the first bite of his. It's not gourmet, but it's definitely 4 stars for what it is. Eating in is OK. Ordered out for the first time today. You guys seriously threw our food together. I have never seen such a disgrace of a cheeseburger. I asked for a cheeseburger with everything, no tomato, and mushrooms. Instead I had literally 1 mushroom on my burger and a pile of slop. I will be parking my car and walking 100 feet over to the Red Onion the next time I want a burger. I will have better service, better food and the actual toppings I ordered. I am not sure why I am not a fan of Five Guys. From locations in Oregon and California the experience has been consistant. The burger is decent, but for the price I guess that I expect more. This location is no different. There is no other burger option in Pinole, but I would drive 5 more minutes and go to In-N-Out. What did I learn today? I'm spoiled, I expect all Burger joints to offer a chicken or a veggie alternative. Sadly, 5 guys doesn't. I will say that on each occasion I have been here, I had their hot dog - which is delicious. The restaurant is located in the Trader Joe's shopping plaza on Pinole Valley Road, near the library and Pinole Valley High (my alma mater). If you want to park near the restaurant,it can be a little difficult due to the plaza being super busy. They offer different sizes of burgers. There are a variety of toppings, which are all free. They give lots of fries in any size order. Tables are available to eat in, however - your meal will always come in a brown bag. Peanuts are available to eat while you wait. So far, I have only eaten the hot dog with fries, which I have found to be yummy. Price wise, they are a little expensive but the food is worth it. read more

Five Guys is a place to grab a good burger and delicious fries. The restaurant is extremely clean, the staff is courteous, and the service is efficient. Something to realize is that the "Regular" version of the burgers/cheeseburgers are all double-patties...I personally prefer the taste balance of the one meat patty. Another tip (if you like most things on your burger) is to tell them what you DON'T want on the burger, not necessarily what you DO want. Altogether, a great burger joint, higher quality than your run-of-the-mill fast food. read more

I picked up Five Guys for a quick dinner for myself, sister and brother-in-law. The burgers were just mediocre to me. The meat was a little dry for my taste, but otherwise are flavored well. They got each of our orders wrong on the burgers but it was easily fixed by removing the incorrect items. We shared a large order of fries, which is definitely enough for 3 people. This location deserves more than just 5 stars! Mark, Thomas, Kevin, and Toni are amazing! We were the party of 3, we came into this location on Friday 02/21/2014 around 3:30/4pm. I myself have been to 2 other locations of Five guys. Neither of the other two is anything compared to this location's customer service! My friend and her 3 year old just recently moved from El Paso, TX. They have never been to FIVE GUYS. We came in and they were a bit slow with about 3 other sets of customers. MARK who took our order was very friendly and patient with us since my friend didn't know what to get or how to order, AND on top of that... After we were done with our orders, I left my credit card in the car so we had to run back out to get the card which took up some more time, by then a different customer was behind us waiting. Order 1: Bacon Cheese Burger (2 patties) ALL THE WAY with Jalapenos & A1 Order 2: Bacon Cheese Burger (2 patties) ALL THE WAY with Jalapenos Order 3: Cheese Dog with Ketchup Add: 2 Large Fries & 1 Large Drink We sat down for about 10 minutes or so waiting for our food, When we got our food, We all dug into it. Like they say, they DO serve heaven on a bun! While we were eating, THOMAS who was sweeping up noticed that our 3 year old dropped his Cheese Dog on the floor!!! First of all, the cashier walked me through the menu my first time in, without even being asked, happily I might add. I realize this location hasn't been open that long, thus allowing for less time to hate ones job to accumulate, but I always appreciate truly good customer service. I like the open, clean look of the restaurant with the open kitchen/grill area. Plenty of seating and a well-lit, casual atmosphere fit this burger joint perfectly. I had the little cheeseburger "all the way" and little Cajun fries- both were hella tasty. The burger was juicy and a good size, the toppings were delicious, and I love the sautéed mushrooms. Great touch. The fries were perfectly seasoned, though they could have been cooked a little more. Next time I will ask for them well done (easy fix, unlike most of life)! Upon distributing we found not one burger was correctly made; mine was a baby burger with raw onions, mayo, lettuce, tomato and relish. This restaurant serves your standard greasy fair. The hamburgers are tasty, but they could elevate the flavor profile by doing something more to the meat than just simply putting salt on it. I ordered a small burger and it came with all the traditional fixings, as well as mushrooms. The fries look good and they're fresh cut fries with part of the potato skin still attached, but they could cook them a little longer to make them more crispy as opposed to a soggy greasy mess. Now, this is the only Five Guys I've been to, so I have no idea how it compares to others, but I do know mmmmmmmmm. It's kind of a make-it-your-way situation where you pick your base burger and add whatever toppings you want on it. I didn't know any of this going in! Such frazzle. So stress. Wow. Naturally, I got the burger with the most stuff on it (bacon cheeseburger) and loaded it with jalapeños. To my ever-so-pleasant surprise, the jalapeños are fresh and not pickled! I feel like I'm getting my daily dose of vegetables right there, crammed between my processed beef patties. Did I say mmmmm? I was so entranced by the peanuts -- and no one told me how big these freakin' burgers were! -- I kind of filled up on them while I waited and barely had room left for the fries (which, really, weren't anything special.) A step up from a typical fast food joint. I prefer Five Guys over Red Onion (which is right down the street). The burgers are great, love the options. I can't think of them all off the top of my head, but they pretty much have it all. I think I like the fries the most, they're fantastic. If you like grease, long waits, and a dirty atmosphere this place is for you. Friday night and this was the only place that wasn't packed which should have been a sign but since I was sick and hungry I figured I'd take my chances. Ordered three meals to go and ended up waiting about 35 minutes. In the middle of waiting, I took my 3 year old to the bathroom only to find a dirty bathroom with a clogged toilet. Once our food finally came, which the woman in the back threw at my husband more than handed it to him, it was covered in so much grease you couldn't even read the receipt attached to the bag. Ate the fries, which were actually pretty good, and the burger, which wasn't memorable, I was up for hours, sick from all the grease. No thank you. The bacon cheeseburger was soggy and so wet (ungrilled bun, heavy on condiments, limp lettuce and tomato) that it fell apart after two bites. Horrible sweet pickles which I had to remove. The fries looked good but were actually soft and undercooked. I threw away 3/4 of my meal and won't be back. If it is your first time get the cheeseburger with tomatoes and lettuce. I made the mistake of ordering the baccon cheese burger with the "recommended" toppings. I wasn't a fan of the bacon. It was way too crispy for my liking. The toppings were kind of just thrown on there haphazardly. Delicious but most of it ended up on the table. I couldn't decided if I like the fries or not.
