Five guys is chain that is loved by many and hatted by some. I'm not really a fan, but this place really has no pretense. It's not clamming to be a gourmet. God awful. I have to preface this review by saying that I was never on the huge "OMG FIVE GUYS THEY'RE THE BEST EVAR!" bandwagon that popped up several years ago. The first time I got one about four years ago was inarguably the best, even despite all the semi-let-down hype, it was still pretty good. Every time since however has been a letdown, even with modified expectations. It's almost like the more I lowered said expectations, remembering to expect nothing more than a slightly-above-par fast food burger, the results lowered with them. This particular chain in Gresham only warrants a review because of how godawful it is. I've eaten here twice now, and dumped $30 on a grand total of four burger and two orders of fries. The first time was eaten in the restaurant, the second time we drove it the whopping five minute drive home before eating. Both times, unfortunately, yielded the exact same results: soggy, clay-like bun, cold burger, unmelted cheese, and just very gross in general. I honestly have no clue how this particular branch can have a 3.5 star review. Have most people never eaten a decent burger? Is the prevalence of McBurgers to blame for such incredibly poor overall taste? Ugh, what IS it??! HOW?? When you wait 15 minutes for a fresh to order burger to be completed, and the burger STILL never reaches a great enough temp to melt the cheese directly on top of it (regardless of whether you have it right away, or give it a few minutes with its own heat in the bag), something is wrong. When the bun turns into the texture and consistency of raw dough, regardless of eating it immediately or letting it sit a few minutes, something is wrong. For those who say the fries save the experience...no. They taste bitter even fresh and steaming hot from the fryer. The mounds of salt don't even begin to hide the rank flavor. The fries themselves take no time whatsoever to become gummy, soggy, and mealy. Not even going to comment on the grease factor, or the fact that a large is nearly 1500 calories (presumably due to said grease). Absolutely disgusting. When I spend $5 on a burger, I expect it to be better than a $2 burger from jack in the box. Hasn't happened here. Gave it a second try just in case I was missing something, but I'm not. This location's food is horrid. $30 on two absolutely disgusting meals for nothing. YUCK. Never again, even if I was desperate. Let me reiterate: There is NO excuse for a cold, gummy burger. Especially when it takes 15 minutes to put the thing together. Jesus H, this is the worst food I've eaten in a while, and this is coming from someone who has gone to a Shari's recently. I have a feeling that the 5guys obsession is more front than substance. Does anyone actually like this garbage? Or do you just feel like you should because it's hyped as a "better burger"? Seriously. If you want a TRULY better burger and are craving that subway-style order what you want toppings, hit up wow burger at cascade station. Five Guys has easily become one of my favorite places to get a burger. My favorite things about this place are how you get to pick what you want on your burger, which they have many ingredients to choose from and they make everything fresh right in front of you. Their fries are pretty spectacular too and are definitely better than McDonald's. They are a little pricey but for getting to choose your own toppings and the amount of food you are getting, they aren't really something to complain about. read more

This was our first time trying a Five Guys, so I wasn't sure if it was closer to a sit down restaurant or more of a fast food place. When we walked in, it was obvious that it's more of a fast food place, but with sit down restaurant prices. That wasn't the best first impression. However, once we received our food, it made a little more sense. Their regular burgers are all double burgers(so next time we will opt for the kids burger), and they were really good. Their fries were delicious, as well. You should know, though, that they charge for everything separately- burger price includes just the burger, then you pay for fries and you pay for your drink. For 2 of us, we paid $25 for 2 burgers, 1 order of fries and 2 drinks. Kind of steep, but we will probably eat here again, because they're quick and their burgers were delicious. read more

Love this place. Whenever we take a trip into the valley we stop here for some good eats. Great tasting food, friendly service, and a nice casual atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable and they always give you loads of fries. Love that you can choose from so many toppings. Definately worth the stop. read more

My husband calls me Wimpy...so I should know a good burger. We both downsized to the "small" burger and share a small fry and drink.....we still have fries left over. You can have so many topping for free I forego adding cheese or bacon. Their fresh cut fries are really crispy, normally not a fan, but these are really good and they have malt vinegar to top with.. I've heard people talking about Five Guys for a while, so when one finally opened in Gresham I was looking forward to trying it. To be fair, I'm not normally that much of a burger-and-fries person, but that's all the more reason to want to know the best place to go when the mood does strike. This is not going to be that place. It had only been open for a week when we went, but I figured 5:45 on a Friday night might not be too bad--the grownups should be at nice restaurants, and the teens shouldn't be out 'til later. Wow, wrong. Or if I was right, I would hate to see what it's like when it's "full." The line to order wasn't so bad, but from there every square foot of free space was packed elbow to elbow with the backlog of people waiting for their food. Once you got it I don't know what you were supposed to do with it, because there was no hope of getting a table. And good luck even trying to get out, as the doors were barricaded with bodies. Then every five minutes or so the crowds had to pack even tighter, as an employee pressed through pushing a dirty garbage can. If that doesn't sound unpleasant enough, imagine the noise all those people make. Then on top of that add the store sound system playing, as my husband called it, "the greatest hits of 1981 played through an AM transistor radio with the treble cranked full up." Which is probably why the cashier got our order wrong. "Mushrooms" turned out to be "mustard" by the time we finally got it. I could deal with all that (or at least plan to order online and pickup in the future) if the food was worth it, but it just wasn't. The famous burgers really are nothing special, just two flattened patties. Actually not even patties--mine was broken up into a bunch of half-dollar sized chunks that all just fell out of the bun. The cheese was not melted. And, a big pet peeve, the toppings were not evenly distributed at all. As in, you could have a bite with meat, or a bite with pickles, or a bit with tomatoes, but forget having all at once (that is, until they all fell out on the table/your shirt and you had to scoop them back up with your hands). The fries were starchy and flavorless except for the mounds of salt. My mouth was burning with salt for hours afterwards. To add insult to injury, you get to stare at the calorie counts on the menu board. And they are UNBELIEVABLE! Again, I obviously knew what I was getting into with a place like this, and it would have been worth it as an occasional treat if the food was really that good, but nope. Not worth it. The whole experience just left me feeling disgusting and a little sick. read more

I was so excited to hear that we now have a Five Guys in Gresham! Went with a girlfriend (on the recommendation of her son) tonight, Thurs. at 5:30. Well, I wish I could tell you we were thrilled because we were not. As other reviewers have written, it is extremely crowded, incredibly loud and I can't figure out why our Fire Marshall allows all those tables, chairs and stacked up boxes of peanuts to impede egress in case of an emergency. Surprised at all the negative reviews! The Burgers are great, the price is reasonable (much less than red robin, mcmenamins) and the fries!!! Local grown potatoes fried in peanut oil, uh yeah, they are great! Complain about the crowded store all you want, they are very successful because they give great service serving great food! Hey-o! Best burger in town ("burger" being a cheeseburger and town being Gresham). It is a big, juicy, get-the-drippings-all-over-your-hands mess that you will not be disappointed by. The meat is tender and flavorful, the veggie fix-ins are crisp and fresh and melded together, they make a great team. My few complaints are that, I have yet to eat something from this place without it giving me a stomachache afterwards. 5/17/12 - 6:30pm - First off the service was very slow especially with no one in there when we arrived. The worst burger ever! We definitely will not go there again! We went to the Gresham location and it was awful. The hamburger buns were way too bready and very stale tasting. They toasted them to make up for it but it didn't work. All that toasting the bun did was make it fall apart so you couldn't eat it. The hamburger itself was tastless and bland. We asked for the fries to be well done so that they would be crispy. They weren't. In fact they too fell apart. To add insult to injury the serve Coke instead of Pepsi. Their diet coke was over sweet and had a strange after taste. I wouldn't recommend Five Guys to anyone! Spend your hard earned money some where else. p.s., had to go to Baskin Robbins to get some ice cream so we could get the nasty taste out of our mouths. read more

I thought an updated review for this restaurant was appropriate and fair since my unfavorable past experience and subsequent poor rating. Just got back from one of many lunches here since my previous review and brief period of non-patronage. Every thing I mentioned in my last review has been addressed and changed for the better. The burgers have been consistently good and always hot. Seems more attention is being paid to getting the fries right and doing a good job of it. The Iced tea is tasting like good tea. There is someone always making sure the area is clean. The people are always friendly and courteous. And the price charged, considering the overall quality, is fair. If you want a fresh burger and fries with as many toppings as your little heart desires this is the place. I've been to other Five Guys' locations and this one has been the most consistent in prep/presentation as well as minimal wait times (compared particularly to the Beaverton location). Be prepared for the "gut bomb" that ensues and do know the more toppings you add the less structured your burger will be (think mushy). The fries are awesome and a Regular can be shared with a 2nd (or 3rd person). The staff are efficient and pleasant here, and don't forget you can order online! read more

I am definitely not a fast food person and I don't think this is a whole lot better. Agreed the quality is better and it doesn't have a drive through but it's not much different. To me it's okay food and decent fries but still greasy fast food. If you're looking for a step above the local drive through you'll be happy but it's just a step above and nothing amazing. read more
