This review is a little difficult for me to to put into words: Nothing stands out as really good or bad but neither my wife nor I felt satisfied after eating here today. The place was clean, the staff was polite the food wasn't bad..... and yet, at the same time, nothing was really satisfying. The music was way too loud, the French fry portion was smaller than what we've had before, the food was only kinda warm, not hot. The soda machine flavor that we wanted was out of syrup. The service was slow, more than 10 minutes. It seemed like all of the employees were either new or not really interested in their work. No one demonstrated an upbeat or confident attitude. I'm as unsatisfied with my review as we were with our lunch experience, but, as I said earlier, I'm having a tough time describing the, "meh", experience we had. Pretty typical for a Five Guys-- perhaps a little faster than usual, with the same not-quite-clean but definitely-not-messy inside, and a very busy parking lot at times. French fries seem to be uneven at best, some report mounds of fries in the bag, others say they're skimpy. Burger buns always seem a smidgen too greasy, a la the typical Five Guys experience? The Hubs wanted to try this place. He had heard somewhere that it was better than In and out. Um, no it wasn't... the burger by itself was $10, fries we're around $3 for the "little" size, which by the way they give you a lot of fries. Very salty and over seasoned IMO, they offer regular or Cajun . Almost $5 for a grilled cheese sandwich which was legit burger buns with American cheese and grilled onions. BLT was over $5 it was also made with burger buns. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger "all the way" which consisted of lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, mayo, mustard, pickles, mushrooms and grilled onions. I requested jalapeños on it, additional toppings are free of charge. When I got my burger it was so sloppy and soggy, it fell apart. I love mushrooms but to my surprise they tasted and looked like canned mushrooms, no flavor whatsoever . Our total for a family of 4 was almost $60. Don't plan on coming here again. read more

***The fries at Five Guys are good, but I find their burgers just okay*** Five Guys is a growing burger chain. It started along the East Coast and I tried one several years ago in Carson. They seem to be popping up everywhere now. Five Guys has a very throwback decor with a red-and-white checker style. The menu consists of burgers, hot dogs and fries. The burgers are very customizable. While you can't customize the meat or bun (a standard sesame seed bun), you can add any combination of toppings you want at no extra charge. There is mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A.1 steak sauce, BBQ sauce, and hot sauce. They offer hamburgers, cheeseburgers and bacon burgers (with or without cheese). In terms of sizes, they offer little versions of their burgers and that is the way to go here. Their little burger is a regular size patty while their regular burgers are actually double patties. The burger is wrapped in foil and it kind of has a backyard barbecue look to it. While I have never been a big fan of their burgers (I've often found them greasy), I thought the burger patty was surprisingly mediocre on this last visit. The burger was not that juicy. The toppings were fine and fresh though the sesame seed bun kind of got squished too much. The fries were good though. The fries are freshly cut and they leave the skin on. They cook the fries in peanut oil. The fries had a great color as well as a great flavor. They were also hot and crisp. Maybe it is the strong flavor of the fries or something because they did not take on the vinegar and salt that well (you have to really put a lot of vinegar on them). This is kind of a shame because these thick, skin-on fries are the perfect fries for salt and vinegar; they really reminded me of the carnival fries I used to have growing up in the Midwest. Service was good. The service was fairly quick--similar to what you would expect at an In-n-Out or a Habit. Five Guys does offer complimentary in-their-shell peanuts while you wait. In terms of prices, they do give you a very big portion of fries and you can share them; it is a pretty good value for the fries. The burgers are expensive though. I believe they are more expensive than The Habit and might be even more expensive than Fatburger. This Five Guys offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Finding a table is fairly easy. I like the fries at Five Guys. They are good enough to make me want to return. I am not a big fan of their burger and would put The Habit, Fatburger and In-n-Out above them. Still, it is a popular burger spot and if you are a fan of those other fast food burger spots, you need to check out Five Guys. This Five Guys is located in a retail plaza with Rubio's and other order-at-the-counter restaurants. The retail plaza has its own free parking lot and it is easy finding an open space. read more

The 5 Guys burger is the kind of burger you'd make in your backyard. Well, that is if you actually had a backyard. There's no need for a secret menu because the burger is up to you. Unlimited toppings. Your choices. Your burger. Sure, I guess there could be a secret menu since you are the only one who knows what you ordered which would technically make it a secret. I should go to Five Guys some day and say "Give me the same burger as the guy in front of me" just to try a new flavor mix. For now, you can use my secret burger: Lettuce, Tomato, Grilled Mushrooms, Mustard, Mayo, and fresh Jalapenos. Definitely get an order of fries. I've tried the Cajun Fries at other Five Guys, but found that the Regular Fries here were better. I didn't plan to eat the huge bag of fries by myself, but just couldn't stop because they were so addictive. One negative is the prices. Only a cheeseburger and fries was just under $10. It's a great fast food burger and those fries are damn good. The standard five guys burger is a double patties/double cheese, but it just may not be $10 good. Regardless of the price, I'm a fan. The main difference includes having a Subway style type of ordering; meaning that you pick a type of burger (little burger is one meat patty and normal burger is two meat patties) and then add any one of the handful of toppings, free of charge. Another major difference is the price. Burgers cost anywhere between $3-$5. You could get a cheeseburger here for the same price you could get a hamburger and fries at In 'N Out. I ate these first while driving back to my work (and ate them all because LA traffic is so slow! The burger was great and had SO many options for toppings. I went with all the top level condiments and grilled mushrooms - because I could! The burger is HUGE! Now that I know I will get the smaller size next time or stick with a larger burger and split the fries. It tasted like a better version of something you could find grilling in your buddies' back yard. Next time I wanna try a shake - again with a TON of options. I came in here with my uncle and cousin for the first time and we all really enjoyed it. They have peanuts that you can help yourself to and eat while you wait. A lot of the shells end up on the floor but that adds to the charm of the place. We all got Bacon Cheeseburgers and shared two order of fries. Sorry Five Guys, I tried to like you. I really did! But it was just an a-okay experience for me. The patty isn't as juicy and tasty as in-n-out patty. I like the idea that you can put any topping you want but the ingredients doesn't really compliment each other. I'm more of steak fries kinda girl than regular thin french fries so I was pleased when I found out Five Guys serve thick fries compared to in-n-out. Because the fries are thicker, it has the potato consistency that I like and I could seriously eat a large serving all to myself. Bottom-line: forget the burger and just order the fries! I want to give them negative stars because honestly with all the hype this place pales in comparison to In N Out! I'm not going to make this a In N Out verses Five Guys, because it's not. I'm surprised that the reviews for the burgers aren't better, considering that the friends that I was with, that had the burgers, raved about them. But I digress... The vegetarian option here, which I assumed would just be a boring veggie patty (usually of the gardenburger variety that I can make myself at home) but it was actually a grilled cheese with a bunch of grilled vegetables, and awesome. Think the In-N-Out grilled cheese, but with a lot more veggies. Delicious. You have the option to get *just* grilled cheese if you want, or *just* veggies, but I highly recommend the veggie and cheese option. It's definitely something a little bit different than you can get anywhere else under the vegetarian option. Okay that was a bit of a surprise and a lot more than I'm used to. After the 1st bite I determined that the burger was pretty damn good! Juicy, tasty and something that Id take home to finish later if it wasn't falling apart on me from all the sauce & grease. But Im no punk b!@ch. I manned up and finished it in one sitting. Well done Five Guys... you've made it to my top 5 list on the 1st visit. However... Your decor is suspect. ;-) Red and white color scheme is SOOOOOO In&Out and the whole checkered thing is SOOOOO Rally Burgers. Finally gave this place a try. I thought the burger was slightly above average, but the fries were a squishy bunch of greasy goo. The ingredients used on the burger seemed good quality but the bun needed toasting or something. I was excited to see the skin on the fries, but quickly realized they serve them greasy and limp. All for $10 which I felt was pricey. Peanuts with my hamburger? Strange to find free peanuts for customers buying burgers and fries. I did learn there is free and easy parking right behind the place. Ok Burger. Was still hungry after trying an Umami burger, so I came here... Got a bacon cheeseburger, "all the way" with green peppers (bell pepper) added. Was impressed with the choices of ingredients, wasn't impressed that all of them were cold. So, I went from one place that offered a 2 ingredient burger to one with 11. The Five Guy burger had too many ingredients (my fault) to taste much of the burger. It was also squished from the handling and tin foil, leaving it not the prettiest burger at the ball. I love how the cashier, knowing it was our first time there, took time to explain the menu/ordering process to us. I love their unlimited toppings -- you can make a new burger each time! I love how their Cajun fries have a kick to them, and aren't just salty. I love how there are free peanuts -- nice & salty, just like the ones in baseball games. HOWEVER, I wish their burgers weren't so overcrowded with everything! Maybe I should've opted for just ketchup & mustard, but really, I didn't even go extreme. I got lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, pickles, ketchup & mustard. Although everything tasted fresh, it really overcrowded the patty, which should be the best part! I could've tell whether the patty itself was grilled to perfection, or seasoned well, because the sauces and everything else just overwhelmed me. Well I do believe I found a new hamburger joint. I dpnt normally pasd out 5 stars but im hooked. I love In N Out but sometimes we need a change. I found the burger & cajun fries very tasteful. Caution!! The small order of fries can feed up to 3 people. In addition they were oily but then again as the saying goes "if you cant see through the bag its not worth trying". There was also a sign indicating what farm the potatoes being usef came from. I thought it was a nice touch. I was also glad to see they had an assortment of drink options that included many diet drinks. The self serve peanuts in the box were an excellent option while you wait. One negative is the parking. It was horrible during the lunch crunch and it was crowded. Theres was plenty of space outside but it seemed most folks wanted to sit indoors. If you dont have time order online as my supervisor did. I always get the hamburger all the way + hot sauce. I love how they have some many toppings you can add (for free!). Their "regular" burgers are actually double burgers and their small burgers are single patties. The frieds are delicious...i recommend the canjun style...they remind me of a fatter/bigger version of the in n out fries. The free peanuts are also a nice touch. I've been coming here pretty regularly for lunch...and it is not good for my waistline :( read more
