Went in for a mid afternoon lunch. REALLY looking forward to a burger and fries. Rather busy, but service was efficient. However, I don't at all appreciate the cashier asking me if I wanted to add a soda to my order, despite having already ordered a beverage. She even asked if I was sure that I did t want to add a soda?! This is an obnoxious practice that many fast food places have adopted that is very irritating and the greedy motive behind this sales tactic is very transparent and a total deterrent. Five Guys is another establishment that has decided to jump on the bandwagon of blatantly asking for a tip when what they are doing is their job. It is a takeout fast food establishment, and there is no service involved beyond taking the customers order at the cash register. Just another example of corporate America trying to get customers to supplement their employees income, when the business owners and employers are the ones who should actually be paying a competitive living wage. I can plainly see that the employees are all working hard and efficiently, and that work should be compensated by their employer, not the customer! Sit-down, full dining service is a different story. The gentlemen, who was making the french fries and bagged up my entire order was very friendly and appropriate, kind and seemed to be really enjoying his job. Really nice interaction there. As for the food, I would give the cheeseburger 7-8/10. Kind of got squished by the employee putting a wrapper around the burger. French fries were more than plentiful and quite tasty! Chocolate milkshake was supposed to be one of the best out there, but it was actually an absolutely tasteless milkshake. Tasted nothing like chocolate. Not even a hint. Would not have known it was their version of chocolate other than I knew that that's what I ordered. Would've actually taken it back, but I had already left the premises. Lots of tables empty and dirty with rather dirty floors. Whilst I was waiting for my food, someone finally came out to begin sweeping, around dirty tables. Not the best experience and it will be a while before I try it again. Overall pretty disappointed and would give it rating of 5 - 6/10. read more

I don't know how I resisted Five Guys for so many years! The food is awesome and the portions are more than plenty. Tip 1 - the "Little" burger is a regular sized burger. The other burger is a double patty and it's huge! Tip 2 - they give you a ton of fries no matter what size. You order so a large is more than plenty for two people. Their fries are good. The people are nice. But twice now they have given me a BLT without bacon or with only 1 or 1.5 slices of bacon. I know, I should check before I leave the store. I live 20+ minutes away, so when I forget, I inevitably get home and have a nice, soggy $8 tomato sandwich. We only eat out once or twice a month. This is my husbands fav burger place, so I'm kinda stuck going here. Yes, they will replace it next time. But in the meantime, I'm out dinner that night, so while my family is enjoying their meal, I'm literally trying to scrounge leftovers out of the fridge or making due with cold tomato on a soggy bun. Just replacing the sandwich when (if, at this point) I come back in 2-3 weeks is insufficient. I hate being this person, I hate a being hungry, tired, grumpy Karen who comes off as in the wrong because my $8 sandwich has $2 of worth of food on it. I know fast food is a thankless job, and hard work, ad mistakes get made. It's why I leave a nice tip every time. Yes, they are the best tasting fast food burgers, and fries, period. No denying it. The employees are nice. But if you get home and don't HAVE that delicious food after paying a premium for it, it doesn't really matter if it's the best food in the world, does it?? Very often you can expect long lines, but don't worry they move fast as five guys has a good method of dealing with large lines. Enjoy all you can eat peanuts while you wait as well. For drinks you get water, fountain drinks, or one of their shakes. The shakes have plenty of flavors along with additional mix-ins. Then for the main food you can have a hamburger, cheeseburger, or bacon on it if you like along with the option of one or two patties on them. If you prefer something else you can also have a grilled cheese, a BLT, or a hot dog. Then comes the toppings, which there are plenty to choose from. A sign inside describes the topping options and possibilities perfectly saying five guys is the willy wonka of burgercraft. Then you get the option of getting delicious fries, either normal or with Cajun seasoning. The food here is awesome, with great friendly service. It still amazes me how this ever gets anything but five stars, and today's visit at their Bangor store was no different. Quite a busy location but then again most are at lunch time. The line progressed quickly and I had a little bacon cheeseburger and my friend had a little cheeseburger. I got mine "all the way" which includes a large assortment of compliments, all free to add on as you see fit. We split a small fry which those familiar with Five Guys know is a lot, the cup may look small that they put the fries in but they pile on an addition couple cups in your bag and it's a lot of fries. While waiting for our number to be called we canceled on some peanuts that we quite tasty. My little bacon cheeseburger was perfect in every way, Da Vinci couldn't create a better burger. The thing they do so perfectly is in the simplicity, I know it's a little more then fast food burgers but you will not regret it. Every burger is made to order fresh, no frozen beef, delicious locally made buns, and crisp fresh condiments. The fries in my opinion are about as close to perfection as you can get. You can order with a seasoning or plain with just salt. I prefer plain salt but the seasoned are delicious too. All fresh cut fries, nothing frozen. Ok lets start in the parking lot. There is sometimes a hard time to find a parking spot but it pays off in the end trust me. As soon as you are inside,everything is great. There is usually a next to nothing wait so dont worry. They have many options for burgurs, hot dogs and milkshakes I personaly love a good bacon cheese burger so i will describe theirs. the buns are all extrememly nice not like the cheap ones at burger king or mcdonalds. they make the burgers with TWO patties with the cheese inbetween. the bacon is cooked perfectly and is crunchy. My friends and I went on a busy Saturday evening around five. Yes, we're masochists. The line to order was out the door. The people waiting for their dinner was just as massive. I figured it would be an hour at least to get my food, and wouldn't have been in the least surprised if it was cold when I got it. But I was pleasantly surprised, I have to admit. The line to order moved along at a good clip, and ordering was easy and caters to customization with tons of add ons to choose from. There were no tables available, but we descended on one when it was vacated, and continued to wait for our food, but when I looked at the time, I was surprised to realize that we had ordered and had our food inside of 30 minutes, which is better than a lot of sit-down restaurants. The portions are enormous. The burger was EXCELLENT, as were the fries. I would suggest that one person order a small. I ordered a regular and couldn't finish them. They give you your order and then throw more into the bottom of the bag, so you end up with an order and a half. Yes, it's loud. And crowded. And bad for you fast food. 5 guys is so good! their burgers are cheap and omg I could eat there every day! You have to ask for the mini burger because the regular one has two patties! They are so so good and like I said would eat there again. NO complaints! They were waring gloves at all time but they had their masks on but not over their nose. I can't believe that anybody would give a fast food restaurant five stars! Don't people have any standards? All beef hamburgers (means all beef high fat No Lean) tasting like just about every 1/4 inch thick burger made on a grill at greasy spoon stands all around the country. The rolls are just plain old white bread with sesame seeds, not even toasted. The bacon is precooked just to the point of being burned. Think nitrosamines, cancer causing carcinogens produced by over cooking bacon. There is a large selection of toppings, which seem nice and fresh. The place is LOUD, high volume music and shouting at pickup counter. Want a better burger? Go to Long Horn, Texas Roadhouse, Chilli's or Ruby Tuesday's. They make decent, thick and juicy chain restaurant burgers with fresh veggies on better quality rolls. Five Guys french fries are greasy and like so-so fair food. Wendy's, Micky D's and Burger King have better fries. For better burgers and fries ( some of the best fries in Bangor) go the Governor's, get water and a drink, fresh veggies on the burger and a side of slaw all for around the same $20.00 spent at at five guys and your money stays in Maine with a Maine company. read more

This place gets packed during busy times but the line still moves at a decent pace. The burgers are made on the spot and come in a variety of options. My only complaint about them is that sometimes they can be too greasy. The fries portions are generous. I really can't believe how many 4 and 5-star reviews this place has. We stopped here tonight for the first time since they opened several years ago and it was terrible. Disgustingly greasy burgers and under cooked fries are what we received. We couldn't even bring ourselves to finish our burgers because they were so disgusting. Honestly, the only enjoyable part of our visit were the free peanuts that we snacked on while waiting for our food. This place is also horribly designed. I have no idea who came up with the layout for this place, but It's nearly impossible to navigate since there is absolutely no designated path to the soda machines and restrooms and you have to maneuver through people standing around waiting for their food and walk around tables, which take up nearly every square inch of this place. it's a complete mess.
