We always have a good meal at Fishbone's and it's a great place to take visitors. Our most recent visit was on a beautiful warm day, and I've been looking forward to some outdoor patio dining, and sushi sounded great. Fishbone's has a great enclosed outdoor patio adorned with hanging flower baskets and flowers trailing down the walls. The bar is large and reminds me of an outdoor bar when you're on vacation, I always get vacation vibes at Fishbone's patio. Drinks and appetizers of breaded zucchini wedges were ordered and enjoyed. I got the fried Yam Yam rolls and husby got a seafood pasta. Great quality as always, but we did notice that the rolls were missing which I thought were included with an entree. We also noticed that a 15% gratuity was also automatically added to the bill this time, even though it was only the two of us. Just something to keep in mind. read more

Took one of my close friends here for her birthday last night. This was our first time ever dining at this restaurant. We made a reservation for 6pm. We were seated right away and our waitress was prompt in greeting us and getting our drink order. My friend ordered salmon and I had a NY strip steak. The order came out within a reasonable amount of time. The food was good, I just felt like their side option's were lacking a bit. The facility was clean for the most part. The only thing that is prompting the 4 stars. Is the table next to us left when we arrived. The table was not cleaned the entire 2 hours we were there. It still wasn't cleaned when we left. Maybe they were short on staff. But food sitting on a table next to you for two hours is not appetizing. Especially since that table had a bunch of leftover sushi they didn't eat or take. But overall would recommend this place. We will for sure go back. Oh and for 3 people with dinner and desert. The bill was $200. read more

The staff was great. My glass of water and pop was never empty. The bread was good. I was, however, VERY disappointed in the jambalaya. They added extra tomato sauce to the top of the dish, which in my opinion, ruined it! It was waaayyy too saucy. It was drowning in tomato sauce. This place could be great but... The food was good. I will give them that. However, it was really hard to get our waitresses attention because we were in a little area on our own. We could not get separate checks for 6 people or even one tab with everything separated and the ability to use separate credit cards. We all had to go around and figure out the cash, and that never works. It is hard to imagine with modern technology that they can't figure out separate bills. My wife ordered the red beans and rice with the andouille sauce and I have the coconut shrimp as a appetizer and I had the wedge salad for dinner. Everything but the shrimp was awful, my salad had some tomato's blue cheese and lettuce and that's it !! I could believe that they would serve something like that as a meal !! This review gives me no Joy since we had our wedding reception here 3 years ago and had such a great time. Tonight my wife and I had dinner and the experience was awful. My wife ordered the redfish because it did not have a spicy indicator. I ordered a medium rare burger. We got the food and within the first bite my wife became flushed with how spicy it was to her palate. And my medium rare burger was rare. Eventually the server came back to the table and we explained my wife's issue with her meal and she asked for some milk and I showed him my burger was under cooked. Eventually he came back again to the table with the milk and explained he told his manager that they should consider indicating on the menu the redfish is a spicy dish. He then asked if we wanted boxes for the meals we were not going to eat. And he charged us for the milk my wife needed for relief. I didn't care the burger was on the bill because I ate my fries and some of the burger. The fact my wife's meal was on there that she didn't eat past her first 2 bites and didn't consume her potatoes and green beans. The manager never came to the table. I visited on yesterday 06/18/2023. i was there at 6:29pm. The food excellent! Service & manager action not so much. The waitress brought my bill for $36.30 to table. I gave my card and sent receipt back. She returns with a receipt for $277 and no card. I ask for the manager who was also tending the bar about the receipt he took the receipt balled it up told me it was a mistake, asked for my card and he disappeared. Waitress brought new receipt and (2) slips for me one to sign. I did not. I have bot in my possession. I paid with cash. She kept the cash and still charged my card. I didn't sign for approval to pay for the purchase on my card. she could NOT have possibly thought that her subpar service was worth more than the entire $36.30 bill. each time we asked for anything the waitress disappeared for extended periods. In this instance i requested also a receipt for proof of cash payment. She took so long to return I left. I am hoping there will be nothing that happens with the security of my card. Fish bones used to be a higher end restaurant where you would go to celebrate and have a high end dinner. Oh how they have tumble down. We went here last about 6 months ago. The hostess first off, seemed irritated that we disturbed her time on her phone watching til tok videos, were treated with a "yeah?" Rather than a welcome. Should have left there but it was raining out and we didn't want to be late for the event we were going to afterward. Got seated, started looking at the menu and waited, and waited, and waited. It was about 20 minutes before our server finally stopped by our table to get our order for drinks. By this time we were already irritated so we decided against anything from the bar. I ordered a burger, pretty simple item and hard to mess up, it was gross. The meat tasted off, was cooked well done and the fries sucked. My wife ordered a perch po boy. The fish was decent although you could tell frozen or old because it wasn't flaky, and the breading was soaked in oil still from the fryer. We would have complained but it took close to an hour just to get our food and we knew we would be late for our event we were going if we had them remake our food, and judging by every employees crappy attitude, we figure our food would have been spit in if we complained because no employee we saw or interacted with seemed to give a crap about their job or this place. Horrible service this Father's Day I had a reservation for my family and when I got there I was told we could not be seated because the kitchen was backed up I was told to wait an hour and then told I would have to wait an extra 45 minutes after I was told the table was ready. The hostess showed no interest and even lied about the reservation to preserve her job I am a frequent customer but today this has changed I will not dine or make reservations to this establishment in the future. Went with a girlfriend for a dinner night. I ordered pasta and she ordered sushi. My pasta came out in less than 5 Mins. I sat for 20 mins waiting for her sushi to come. After a 30 plus mins it finallly came out. Before ordering I asked to have no scallions in my pasta and the waitress told me "it's mixed in the sauce" When I got my pasta it was on top. After waiting the whole time for my gf to get her sushi I asked to have them microwave it. After the whole time of taking the scallions off the first time. I had not been to a Fishbone's restaurant since almost 6 years ago, when I went to brunch at the downtown Detroit location. Fishbones restaurant was one of my favorites restaurants back in the 90's! I absolutely loved the food! So anyway, my friend told me the location in St. Clair Shores was open, so I was super excited to go to thag location. I went a couple of weeks ago, on a Friday evening, and it was packed! But there they still implemented social distancing with the tables and seating, so that was cool! Our waiter was great, I wish I could remember his name. But he was very efficient. My friend and I ordered the Catfish Beignets and Alligator Voodoo for appetizers. The catfish was good, but the alligator was very soggy for some reason and kind of bland. I didn't care for it. I ended up ordering the Gumbo Ya-Ya and my friend ordered a chicken pasta dish (forgot the name). The gumbo was ok, not as flavorful or spicy as I would like. But it was ok. I ordered a slice of Carrot Cake to go as I observed different tables ordering the cake and it looked delicious. I took a couple of bites of the cake when I got home, and again, just ok! Like nothing really reeled me back in to my days of loving Fishbones. I noticed a lot of people ordering sushi as I was leaving, so maybe that's something to try if I choose to return back. One of my friends kept telling me I needed to come here and try this place out for sushi! Well got everything but! When I was looking over the menu I didn't know there was jambalaya! So my mood changed instantly, decided on chicken sausage jambalaya, a regular jambalaya, and add of crawfish etoufee. Our waitress was was nice and answered my questions. Our food came out all at the same time quickly and hot! Would like to see if I can add heat to my jambalaya next time, because besides heat it was very much on point! I was appalled when I went into the ladies bathroom at the Saint Clair Shores location to find a woman from the kitchen staff (cook) in the bathroom in her apron and she was there for a short while. I went and spoke to the manager and asked if the restaurant had a policy concerning staff wearing their aprons into an unsanitary bathroom. As I was speaking to the manager the staff person exited the bathroom and I told him she was the employee. So a friend of mine and I went to fishbones for dinner. I had some sushi a large Greek salad. Suchi was pretty good but the salad was good but a little skimpy on the toppings. My buddy had gumbo which he rated a 3 out of 10, he said that the sausage tasted like hotdogs? Also, he ordered the lamb chops and unfortunately there was hair in it, I thought he was BSing me but I seen it, long blonde hair. I am not sure how they took care of the bill and really didn't care. My meal was fine. I did take a few dollars back, because they have a automatic 15% surcharge . I figured that was enough. I would return, but not in no rush to get back. I've been to Fishbones a few times now. The food is decent. The service is hit and miss. This time we ordered the alligator voodoo appetizer which is good and kind of a cool exotic thing to order. We also ordered the mahi mahi blackened with seasoned veggies (broccoli. carrots, potatoes). The fish was very good today. The veggies were delicious. Seasoned very well and cooked just how I like them on the undercooked side. Fishbones bread and butter basket is one of the best! I feel like some of the items on the menu are a little pricey compared to other places in the area. The service was a little slow all around ordering, refills, bringing the check. I actually got up and grabbed my own box. The waiter was nice, but a little chatty with coworkers in plain sight. I'm torn on this review. Overall experience was poor due to lack of service and how Fishbones management handled things. We went with a group of six on a Saturday, so we expected it to be busy, but we waited over an hour for our food. It was hot out as we were on the patio and waters were barely refilled, our adult beverages were hard to get; and no manager or waiter notified us that our meals were delayed etc. I think it was about an hour in twenty minutes we waited. A little courteous update would have went far with the table; or a gesture of some sort. Once the food came, some peoples were cold, others bad; however, and this is were I'm torn...my smoked salmon was fantastic. It was really good. But with this said, when we asked to speak to the manager it was so poorly handled and the overall experience was kind of so so...I think this is where the 2 star comes into play. I mean, they ended up giving a small discount, but that took another 20 minutes. At minimum they could've said, here have a round on us, or hey, here is a dessert for you to share. As we waited for the manger, no one came to clear the table or at least fill our waters. Again, sitting 20 plus minutes, it would've been nice to have water and possibly a clean table. So, in the end 4 out of 6 had subpar food; delayed food without notice/explanation; poor managerial experience in comparison to like restaurants. I wish it could've been different.... read more

The waitress was expedient and nice, but the food was horrible. The lobster Mac and cheese tasted like it was straight out the box and the manager would not allow us to return it. They have a statement in fine print on the menu saying if the food is not to your taste it cannot be returned. The catfish nuggets were mostly fried air and less nugget. The food here is ok, probably too many items on the menu to get it all right. My biggest problem with this place is charging for service. The waitress I had I honestly felt forgotten about, I asked for the check and 20 minutes go by and I never see her. I had to grab another waiter and ask, "can you grab our waitress, we are trying to leave now. " another 10-15 minutes go by and the waitress comes up and says she thought she already gave us the check. She brings the check and it has the top already on it. I asked the manager about that and he says "that's the way it is, we don't like it either." I asked for it to be removed because I honestly felt like the service didn't really earn a that much considering. He told me "you don't like the service, don't leave a tip" and walks away. The reason for the mediocre score is the fact that the menu isn't reflective of current price points in other similar places. 30$ for 6oz salmon, rice and Broccoli? It was prepared decently but still..22$ would have been more accurate. The Jambalaya was prepared well and a decent size portion however at 24$ it was mostly rice and sausage with like 3 26/30 count shrimp..more shrimp and 24$ would be an issue, that was a 19$ entree. Beyond the food prices we were mildly annoyed with a party bus of loud obnoxious 40 somethings females at the bar..if Nellys "Hot in Here" Would have broke out on the music mix I'm sure Coyote Ugly.. and I mean ugly would have ensued at the bar...let's not discuss the persons phone alarm going off to the point of where waitstaff was wandering the facility thinking it was some sort of building alarm??? As far as our server..not even worth discussing, she should be a magician, that's how invisible she was.. we could have walked out 10 times without paying and probably gone unnoticed. We've had our last visit to Fishbones. Raising prices is one thing, but using garbage ingredients is a whole other matter. This trash is not something anyone should settle for. They has slid to the bottom of the barrel based on the price gouging and cheaply source, likely precooked, ingredients. To top it all off, we were sick after eating here. There are better places to spend your cash. Go outside of the Grosse Pointe/St. Clair Shores bubble to find them. I never liked the food here. To me, most of the dishes taste like premade heavy slop reheated in a microwave. But my Father-in-law wanted to come here for Father's Day. So I came. I just ordered a shrimp cocktail because I figured there's no way they can screw that up. Aside from being $18 for four pieces of shrimp. It tasted as it should. The problem we faced is that it took exactly one hour to get our food from the time we placed our orders. No one ordered anything special. Just sandwiches, salads, and a shrimp cocktail. They weren't busier than any other night either. So I don't see the reason for such slow service. The food arrived, and of course most of the dishes/sandwiches were cold. Part of me enjoyed watching the family complain to the manager because the experience validated my opinion on how terrible the food is. Al, the manager was a total a$$ in addressing the situation.
