It's been six years since my visit to Fish Tales during the pandemic and it was nice to be back while in the area. My husband & I loved our dinner. The Saturday special: baked tilapia in a bed of risotto and zucchini was delightful. The service was excellent. The only downside was the A/C. The dining room felt extremely cold at 4pm. We came here on a Friday for fish fry, and arrived shortly after they opened. Good thing, because they filled up very quickly and we hadn't had a reservation. It was the first weekend they had their patio open to dining, so we naturally chose a spot outside -- in the shade, it was a bit much in the unabated sun. I thought we'd have a river view, but it was hidden behind some trees and a few cabins. Oh well. Still a nice outdoor spot away from the city. We were warned that there was a party of like 20 people coming in shortly to the patio, but we did not notice and interruption in our service as the gang flowed in. I will never love the ability to smoke cigarettes on an outdoor patio, so maybe I should have sat inside, but still worth being outside despite the occasional irritation. To each their own. Our server was great, and was very patient with our slow proces of ordering drinks, appetizers, and the meal in relatively spaced out time periods. The Old Fashioneds were great, without too much of the muddle and soda and more emphasis on the booze -- still a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, though! I enjoyed the cheese curds and was very intrigued by their potato and cheddar crusted cod. I usually get the fried cod during a Friday Fish Fry, but this sounded somehow elevated. Alas, I didn't find it to provide any extra or new flavors, and there was nothing crispy about it. The breading was more like a mooshy exterior that didn't do a ton for the fish. The fish was cooked nicely, but the very high price was very much not warranted. I can get crispier and lower priced cod closer to home, so just can't justify the trip for the fish fry. But then there was dessert. I'm always looking to recreate a favorite (late) childhood dessert that involved brandy infused ice cream. I always ask at a Friday Fish Fry if they can make a Brandy Alexander that's thick enough you need a spoon. They claimed this to be the case, and they did not disappoint. This was a delicious Brandy Alexander and definitely worth a trip back. So, while I wasn't crazy about my overpriced, non-crispy fish fry, I still enjoyed myself and enjoyed my food... I'm glad we came and tried it out, and if you're looking for a nice supper club spot, I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

This was an average experience for me except the clam chowder and bread. I should have ate a vat of clam chowder either the bread. Onion rings seemed like they were frozen, fried and served. They were the same as any other restaurant. The deviled eggs were 75% mustard. The clam chowder would rank in my top 10 ever with tons of flavor, clams and potatoes. I wish I could eat an entire loaf of that bread. The bluegill and cod were better than the lake perch. The lake perch was fine but not amazing. The hashbrowns ordered with onions and cheese were not flavorful and the cheese was packaged American cheese. I would think a supper club would have real cheese. read more

Had a nice dinner, ordered after dinner drinks and the male Host asked us to leave because we were there an hour and a half. Couldn't even finish my drink. I didn't know we had to sprint through dinner after waiting an hour to eat. That interaction took all of the good things that may have happened away. I've been there numerous times but this was probably my last. Show respect to those that are big spenders. Felt very under appreciated after spending over $400 with tip for 4 people. read more

Friday Fish Fry was a disaster, We had arrived at 6:30pm for 7pm reservations but didn't get seated until 7:45, hostess had no mgmt skills. / We assume our waitress submitted our orders, but only 2 meals came out timely. The remaining 5 in our party waited an addl hour! By then, they were out of Clam Chowder & the Twice Baked potato! Haven't been here in a while so with the fall season here made the trip up to the lake Wisconsin area. A fun place with a good bar and good service. Their meat loaf is excellent and a big portion. Shrimp and steaks were perfect as well. Outdoor seating weather permitting. Plenty of parking, at least in the off season. Definitely worth the trip up here. read more

Have been visiting Fish Tales a few times recently, they have a nice menu and I can't quite call them a supper club but close. They make a mean old fashioned and the place was packed with no social distancing but that is just fine for me. It would have been a 5 star review but we felt rushed our whole time at our table and were asked to move! I get this because my daughter was a waitress but they need to split the empty tables between waitresses, I will only go there at off times for now on. read more

This is one of our favorite super clubs to dine at then visiting the area. We stopped her for a family diner here with our kids and grandkids. They are very accommodating to seating families along with high-chairs. Food selection and quality is great. Wish they would bring back the roast duck they use to have not he menu. It was always excellent and a real treat. I had the rib eye that I usually shy away from because of of its excess gristle. This one was good but done a little too rare. Hadn't been to Fish Tales for about 1 year. We arrived about 4:20 PM and were seated immediately. The waitress was upon us right away and asked for our order. We said we wanted to order a drink first. She delivered our drinks and asked for our order. We told her we wanted to enjoy our drink and some conversation and she left with a huff. About 5 minutes later she was back asking if we were ready to order. We had only taken one sip of our drink. Definitely felt rushed so we ordered an appetizer thinking she would leave us alone for awhile. NOT! She was back with our appetizer in about 6 minutes and asking if we wanted to order now. We felt we should give her our order which we did thinking she would at least allow us to finish our appetizer before putting in our order. 2 minutes later our salads appeared. So now we have our drinks the appetizer and salads sitting in front of us. About 5 minutes later our entree appeared and we had to move our appetizer, salad and drink to the edge of the table to fit the entree. My wife order the prawns and I the perch fish fry. The prawns were cold and when told to the waitress she asked if we wanted to her to take it back but the wife said no. My fish fry was good, no complaints there. While the restaurant is a simple lakeside bar and grill, the prices certainly are not. For the prices I would expect quality service and food and neither of which justified the prices. Went there twice and would go back many times. Had broiled walleye and it was so fresh and tasty. Homemade soups are wonderful. Full menu and prices aren't low but everything is worth it. We stopped last Friday for the fish fry for two reasons: 1. MFF recommended and 2. the funny name. It was a huge mistake. This place has an identity crisis - it's like an up-north themed pub meets a faux high end supper club. You can get a $11 burger or a scallops with truffle or a $40 steak. Feels pretty forced, but they do have a cool outdoor patio. As for the fish fry: soups were obviously from a can. Bread was freshly baked, but an experienced palate like mine (hahahaha) could see right through it and taste the freezer burn. Fries and hashbrowns were mediocre - putting a slice of american cheese on hashbrowns doesn't count unless you are a divey diner with stools mounted to the floor. As for the most important part: the fish. The $14 baked haddock was semi-decent and a good portion. The lake perch was $18, and had about 8 filets. I'd describe it as soggy underseasoned cardboard which was deep fried, then frozen and then microwaved before being served. And everything was served room temperature. Disappointing at best. My wife and I ordered Scallops and Walleye. Both came out barely warm. The sides were hot like the main dinner should have been. The wait staff was rushed. She forgot to bring our second drinks until the meal was over. We also had to ask for desert which took forever. I tried it, but I doubt I'll ever go back. PLEASE AVOID THIS HORRIBLE PLACE!!!! So I went to fish tales with my wife/newborn son and two of our friends to celebrate them being pregnant. I ordered the Ribeye with Shrimp on top for $47 so did my friend and my wife ordered the pasta shrimp for $39. Both myself and my friend got sick as our steaks were not fully cooked. We both asked for medium rare and when they came out they were gooing in the core/ reddish/ bloody. (I know medium rare and this wasn't cooked) Thinking it just might be a little more on the rare side I continued eating (also hard to see because they pour some kind of sauce over it) Some reading this might ask "why not just send it back" 2 reasons- 1 There are starving people in this world and I know they probably would have thrown it out and recooked another one(or the worst case fear mess with it and than serve, after talking to the "cook" I Assume the latter). Once we all got home myself and my friend got sick and on the toilet all night (fun stuff) I had only eaten half of mine and took the rest home to NUKE in the microwave. We looked at the meat and it was completely uncooked. I call the following day to speak with a manager, I was very polite, he was mexican cannot say his name because I could not tell every time he said it. I told my frustrations in a very nice way and explained about getting sick. I was than told that they served 30 of those the night prior and had no complaints. I than said it wasn't the steak IT WAS HOW IT WAS COOKED. The Manager/Cook than said "well I was the one cooking last night and I take offense to this" Haha you take offense to what? not knowing how to cook a steak? He repeated the steaks they buy are good quality and it wasn't the steak that got me sick. I guaranteed him it was and also it wasn't the steak but how it was cooked (or lack there of) I asked to speak with the owner since I was getting rudeness from the cook. He took my number, said he would pass along and it would be up to the owner if he wanted to call me back. I get a call back from the same manager a day later saying he spoke with the owner and they were offering me nothing. NOTHING. All I wanted was the 47$ I spent on the steak back. My wife didn't even eat her pasta because there was LITERALLY no flavor lol. Let me tell you we spent over $160 each as a couple and tipped very well. We're very polite the whole time and than to get sick and be treated the way I was.....WOW I sincerely hope you choose Luckys on the lake/ Sunset Bar and grill/ Fitzes on the lake and there are many more located around this area that have AMAZING FOOD/ GREAT SERVICE AND POLITNESS WITHOUT GETTING YOUR WALLET GOUGED WITH HORRIBLE FOOD. Very nice find for a small town / rural area. Fish Tales has excellent food and a chef who is not afraid to have menu or special offerings that other small town restaurants would never try - think alligator sausage or seared duck breast. Fish on Fridays is excellent. Deep fried or baked haddock is always available on Friday, but higher-end specials are also available such as potato-cheese crusted cod or some type of fresh fish. Regular menu items are also fine throughout the week, but the daily specials are always better and fresher. There are plenty of "safe" items on the menu if you have older children (ages 10-12) or perhaps seniors with smaller appetites. Fridays are always busy, but you can get in most other days of the week without much of a wait (if at all). read more

The 20 ounce prime rib I ordered had absolutely no flavor and all the prime rib they had for Father's Day was cooked medium they could not be prepared any other way. My youngest daughter ordered American cheese dinner there was no cheese that entrée was also terrible. My oldest daughter ordered the lobster mac & cheese which is even worse than the plain mac & cheese. When I go out and spend $170 for dinner with my family I expect a little more than a half ass attempt. Never going back!! read more

Went to try it out, had heard good word of mouth since it changed hands. Ordered off the menu, partner ordered a special. First up, bar service is good, drinks are cold, and the wine was ok at $6 a glass. The warm loaf of bread they bring is soooo good, and their salad was big and fresh. Nicely done. I ordered the filet and scallops for $32. Yeah, no. The scallops were terribly overcooked. My steak looked perfectly cooked, medium rare, but the char on the outside overwhelmed the flavor of the meat. The potato pancake was perfect and delicious. My partner had the pork chop special, again, very overcooked, with the char taking over the flavor. $8.95, so wasn't expecting top shelf. We were not offered dessert, just given the bill and sent on our way. Overcooked, overpriced. If you stick with the cheaper options, you can get by, but why bother? read more

Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food we received. Prime rib was tender and the horseradish was a perfect accompaniment. It's pathetic that they charge $5 for that small plate of tasteless button mushrooms so definitely pass on those. Baked potato has a salt crust but delicious inside, again 50¢ for sour cream. Salad was fresh, didn't try the soup so no opinion on it. Decent wine and beer to go with dinner. The Best Part was the BREAD!! Yummy yummy warm, soft and crispy crust. Filet mignon tasted like a prime cut, was wrapped in crispy bacon and cooked perfectly. My compliments to the chef on the proteins!! This lakefront Wisconsin supper club has a corny name and a rustic but non-descript atmosphere. But it distinguised by excellent seafood in large portions as well as friendly and helpful service. Of a party of seven, a number of us had walleye prepared in two diffferent ways, both great. An order of sea scallops was generous with huge, nice cooked ones. Stuffed mushrooms with a crab/crumb filling and a marsala cheese sauce were terrific too, as was a wild mushroom bisque. Prime rib portions are huge. No one had room for dessert. read more
