The host at the desk told us we were lucky to have arrived early otherwise they would've locked us out! Excuse me? The food was rushed and the waiter told me he had to make my salad. We had reservations for 7 pm. On new years eve 2025. We waited 20 minutes for a waiter. I complained to the floor manage and waited 10 minutes for the waiter. After he took our order it was another 30 min.before we were served. When the waiter showed up with our food we were shocked that he left the full meal on the table at once. Appetizer , salad, meat, vegetable, bread and then just walked away. The appetizer was cold so we ate our steak while it was warm. It was all we ate. The waiter never came back to ask if things were OK, he only brought the check when we caught his attention. No one to complain to...they were in and out of the public area. Mostly out. NEVER AGAIN! Another 10 minutes, a plate of cold French bread and butter dropped off with "I'll be back to take your order ". Waited another 25 minutes no one came back. Went here last night and it was overall a nice experience! We were in a party of 6 and they were very upfront about not being able to split the check and the automatic 20% tip (which we were fine with but they mentioned it twice before even sitting down so that was interesting). We ordered a variety of food - pasta, steak, lobster bisque, scallops, etc... everyone enjoyed their food. The steak was cooked perfectly and the portions were a nice size. First time being here, the area is nice, but the carpet just doesn't go with the scenery of the area. I feel like it needs to be wood grain. The lighting is a bit dark for our older people, so flashlight from phone is needed. The menu is very small, not that much options, if this restaurant was on its own and not supported by the hotel, it won't make it in the real world. The cocktail list needs more, not that many options, same goes for wine list. The noise level is at medium, because it's a bit small, so you can hear the person talking that is across the room. Our server is Tammy, and she is very attentive, and very knowledgeable. Most likely because the menu is small; now the shift managers are running around helping and cleaning, also well done. The place is clean, well organised and well presented. (I just can't help and not notice the carpet. It literally is burning my eyes as I look around. Good: I started with the soup of the day: chicken wild rice--DELICIOUS! The bread is always warm--perfect. It's creamy, but not too thick. Tuesday nite, 6/26/2012 at about 5:15 PM, we were one of about three other couples who were seated for an early dinner. The place was literally deserted. Upon first entering, the mesquite grill aroma had my mouth watering. We ordered two cocktails and then dinner: Filet Mignon with the "Oscar" add-on, and a NY Strip. Filet was outstanding, as was the NY. The Caesar salad before the meal (a charge-up for the regular dinner salad) was just OK. The "Broccoli crowns" with the NY was soft from being over cooked and it was not "crowns;" it was a large rooty stalk of broccoli with the florets but they were yellowed; the type of broccoli you find in your refrigerator about a week after you forgot you put it there. We were surprised that they would serve it, considering how good the steaks were. Our server, Christine, was attentive and pleasant, but we didn't complain or say anything. The pricing: very expensive. Over $100 for two steaks, no appetizer and two cocktails. Nuttin' to write home about! read more

We're picky about our steak. If it's not cooked the way we ordered it, we're usually disappointed. That's a normal reaction, right? Fortunately, this place knows how to cook their steaks. Came here from Madison on a Friday night with a group of 7. The warm bread and butter was a winner from the start. So soft. So warm. So buttery. So delicious. Most but one started out with the house salad and caesar dressing (the exception ordered the $3 Caesar salad--he didn't know it was extra. It's EXTRA, people. Pay attention!). The house salad is presented with its ingredients separated on the plate, so some mixing action will have to take place. It was honestly a really good salad, especially with the addition of the crumbled hard boiled eggs. They could cut back on the red onions a little bit though. Caesar dressing was on point. The majority of our table ordered the filet--petite and regular--in various temperatures. One ordered the 18oz bone-in rib eye and another ordered the Chicken Chasseur. All of us were satisfied with our proteins. Steaks were cooked to our liking. It was a shame I ate it too fast! As for the sides, I ordered the spinach in cream sauce. Eh. It's heavy on the cream sauce and not enough spinach. I ended up dipping my steak in the sauce just for kicks and it was pretty good. Next time, I'm gonna get the mashed potatoes. That seemed to be a favorite at our table. Overall, great first time experience at this place. Our server was really super patient--we had a few issues with our party but he was very nice and still paid attention to our table promptly. Thank you! I never knew this place was in Ho-Chunk but as a lover of steakhouses, casinos typically have some good ones. This however is not one of them. I went in for a quick steak just after 5. Sat at the bar by myself and had a very nice lady who served me. Ordered a side Caesar salad with my boneless ribeye and broccoli. Also ordered the bacon wrapped scallop appetizer. The appetizer and salad were great and on point for a high end steakhouse. Now the bad. The broccoli was so hard it was like they just dipped it in boiling water to warm it up. The first part of the ribeye I love to try is the fatty tip. Typically the one amazing bite to tell you that you are in for a great steak. Mine was straight rock hard gristle. The steak itself was a step below Texas Roadhouse but a step above Ponderosa. Basically a choice steak over a hand picked Black Angus you would get at any other steakhouse at this price level. Overall paying $40 for uncooked broccoli and the Walmart white packaged steak was just not the experience I was looking for. Will not try again. 1 star for the speed of the service, 1 for the appetizer and salad and 1 star for the bartender. read more

This place beats most in the Dells, which in my opinion does not have good original and unique restaurants (except High Rock Cafe). Why not 5 stars? The salads did not have higher quality greens. The bread was late. The waitress was a typical Wis Dell country bumpkin who did not understand enjoying of food and atmosphere. After all, what are we paying for in an upscale restaurant? To clarify: I was not up sold on any of the great extras, and I felt rushed the entire time from when our server greeted us not with hello, but with "are you ready to order?" No appetizers, no drinks. I asked for that. Please know that if you go here the food is good, but you will have to have it all filtered through the server's IDEA of it. And it appeared as if her idea was not of what is good dining, but rather when you can eat, pay, and get out. My wife and I tried the Copper Oak for the first time earlier this month (Saturday, January 14) after many visits to the Ho-Chunk Casino over the years. We had a reservation and we were seated promptly upon our arrival in a very comfortable booth. A harpist was playing (you don't see many of those) and it was extremely relaxing and appropriate music for the environment. Our waitress arrived quickly and took our drink order and returned within a few minutes came back with our drinks. We did not order an appetizer. We both ordered the filet mignon - my wife ordered the small one and I got the larger one. I opted for the Caesar salad while my wife had the house salad. Both salads were extremely large, greens were fresh and the dressing was good. A basket of bread, really the only disappointment of the meal, was also delivered prior to our salads. The bread seemed to have been a little past its prime and was a bit stale. Both of our steaks were done to perfection and really were "melt-in-your-mouth" quality which is what I expected. For our sides, my wife had mashed sweet potatoes which were done extremely well and very tasty and I opted for an upgrade of lobster mashed potatoes as it was not something I'd ever tried or heard of before. The lobster mashed potatoes were excellent with chunks of lobster throughout - the portion sizes of the side dishes were huge - I must have had a pound of potatoes. Service throughout the entire meal was well-paced and attentive. It really was a very pleasant dining experience and the food was good enough to make us want to come back again. read more

Thursday night, 8/30/12, 5:45pm. Only two other tables filled when we arrived, we got one of the little booths on the side. Quiet, which wasn't unexpected given the location. I won't go in to as much detail as I did with my previous review of Copper Oak, I'll just tell you the highs and the lows: Highs: Seated quickly, given choice of booth or table. Steak (10oz filet, ordered medium) was a quality cut, was juicy, and was cooked to order. Price: Two steaks, plus sides, salads, & drinks was $81 before tip. Not cheap, but reasonable. Lows: The Caprese Salad I ordered was described as "Heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese..." Their "heirloom" was store-ripened Roma tomatoes. Tough, almost hard to cut with the table knife. And my biggest gripe of all: When I arrived, I asked for a beer list. I like beer, particularly fond of local Wisconsin craft brews. The waitress (Helen) said she didn't have a beer list, but she started to list them: "Miller Lite, Genuine Draft, Bud Light, Blue Moon, Stella..". I interrupted "Do you have Capital Oktoberfest?" "No", she replied. I looked at the dinner menu (which I had studied online before we left the house): The "Kobe Beef Trio" appetizer suggests a beer "Lake Louie Scotch Ale", the "House Salad" suggests "Capital Supper Club", the "Chicken Chasseur" suggests "Capital Amber". I ask for a Capital Amber and the waitress informs me that they don't have any of the suggested beers on the menu. Sorry. Sorry indeed. Service was adequate, food was forgettable, and the operations - the beer/menu faux pas in particular, reminded me why I hadn't been there in almost two years - even though it's only minutes away. read more

My husband and I visited Copper Oak for our anniversary. We made reservations and ate early so it was very quiet. The reason I picked Copper Oak is because they have booth seating that set back so its more "private" and I wanted a nice peaceful dinner. I was so impressed. They had a harp playing and they ended up playing the song I walked down the isle to. The service I felt was supreme. They were fast and the food was so yummy! My husband and I celebrated my birthday here late Sept. We enjoyed all aspects of our experience. We had a knowledgeable and friendly server and the food was prompt and delicious. We started with crab cakes and for entrees, I had rack of lamb, which was the best i'de ever had. Husband had the bone in rib eye which was perfection. We had the sweet potatoes with pecans and garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was prepared well. If you want, there is an open kitchen so you can watch chefs prepare dishes. We dined there as a group of 6. It was a very disappointing experience. It started with being sat and waiting about 10-15 min for the waitress to come and take a drink order. Then it took about 10 min to get our drinks, 1 in the party didn't get her drink at all. Someone ordered ribs and after about 15 min waitress came back and said they were out. The steak cavapatti was like a macaroni and cheese. The shrimp Alfredo was Alfredo with shrimp cocktail on top, which was very rubbery. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I took my husband to Copper Oak restaurant in the Ho-Chunk Casino at Wisconsin Dells for his birthday. All the rants and raves about this place are in my opinion not deserved. We arrived and were immediately seated. That is really the only nice thing I can say about the place, that and their Creme Brulee is amazing. Upon being handed our menu's and ordering drinks I opened, or attempted to open, my menu. Upon getting it to open the 2 paper pages inside were stuck together and upon prying them apart much to my dismay they were completely stuck together from food and stuff spilled all over them. It was not new. It had been that way for some time. Upon telling the waitress she took my menu, made no apology and just handed me another one she didn't even bother to check it before handing to me. This one was not stuck together but was by no means a clean menu. Both mine and my husbands steaks were not cooked to our specification, he wanted his well done, it came out medium. I requested my steak medium and it came to me rare. My husband twice ordered a margarita and it came to him with a SUGARED rim. He sent it back and they just rolled it in salt on top of the sugar that was there. He sent it back and requested it be remade correctly. They brought it out again and it had a sugared rim AGAIN! No apologies from our waitress again! Not even an offer to take it back and correct it. The food was sub par. The service very below the standards we have heard so much about. The service was prompt and our waitress was friendly however completely clueless in her job. We ordered a bottle of wine which she did poor the first glass. I had the prime rib and my wife had the N.Y. strip. Luckily they were both cooked the way we asked because she never came back to check. When we were done she removed the wine bottle and our plates. Never asked how the food was or if we would like something else to drink. We asked if they had desert and she reluctantly brought over the desert cart. The carrot cake was good. Somebody did a great job of keeping our water glass full so we had something to drink with our cake. Do they have desert drinks or serve coffee? I have no idea,we were never offered. What should have been a nice romantic experience was a let down with a waitress with absolutely no training.
