I have been here three times now. I love the atmosphere, especially sitting outside when the weather cooperates. The food is amazing and the staff has always been friendly, and attentive but not intrusive. Between ourselves and guests, we have sampled quite a bit of the menu and never had anything that we wouldn't recommend. I'm only sorry that it isn't open for the winter, looking over the frozen lake would only add to the ambiance. read more

Same ole tired menu yet AGAIN this year, 2025. This 'culinary trained chef' once promised to change up his menu every six weeks and has failed to do so, then decides to take off the patrons' favorites like the pretzel chicken, the quesadilla, the Patty melt, the 'Pudge' burger, etc. Also, his price increases are out of control when compared to local taverns and restaurants who serve much better food as well as larger portions at more reasonable prices, even with inflation figured in. The fish fry at most local restaurants on Friday nights has him beat with regard to quality, portion size, and price. HARD PASS! read more

Ok, here's the secret to this place that only the locals know. If you're coming on a Friday night for their fish fry, you need to be here by 5p. Even earlier if it's high season between Memorial Day and Labor Day. They start serving dinner at 4pm. Their early bird special runs from 4-5p. If you wait until 6, you'll probably have a 1-2 hour wait. While there's plenty of places you can get a decent fish fry in Columbia County, this one never disappoints. Tonight we had Anna for our server. That woman moves faster than the speed of light. Not sure how she manages to do that. If I had service this good all the time I don't think I'd ever eat at home. Don't sleep on the Northshore Restaurant at the Portage Country Club. I went last night for a night out with my girls and we had some cocktails and salads on the porch overlooking Swan Lake. The view is perfect for a dinner on a summer night. Very few bugs. I enjoyed a Cajun Grilled Chicken Salad. Rather than fiesta ranch that came with the salad I opted for French. The salad comes with a couple slices of garlic toast. They put a good amount of chicken on the salad. It was delicious and so filling. I washed it down with Wisconsin's very own Spotted Cow. We had Easter lunch here. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The interior is charming with dining tables next to windows overlooking Swan Lake. There is outdoor lakeside seating i On a deck also overlooking the lake. I ordered melt-in-your mouth prime rib and my daughter ordered a chicken sandwich and fries. Both were delicious. So I've been here numerous times over the years. Most times it's great. The food and service are usually good enough to keep coming back. Not sure why this time was different. I like their homemade chips with the fish fry. This time the chips were not homemade and had very little taste to them. I was quite disappointed. The server seemed like she had too many tables to properly tend to them all. When I paid the bill, the hostess asked how everything was. I said the chips were different. She was indifferent and said they don't have the same ones anymore. Nothing more. No apology, no eye contact, no nothing. When a restaurant has something that others don't have it keeps me coming back. I can get a decent fish fry in many locations but I can't find those wonderful homemade chips. Off the main road (WI33) at Portage Country Club, overlooking beautiful Swan Lake. Don't judge the food quality of the establishment by its exterior. The building, which also serves as the clubhouse, is a work in progress. Since we visited in late March, business was slow, which afforded us excellent table service. Chad (the owner) makes a to die for 14 oz. ribeye with good flavor, with no added seasoning. Panko coated onion rings and beer batter chese curds fried to perfection were an excellent appitizer. Kates triple layer chocolate cake with layers of chocolate gonache extremely dense. At least a pound of chocolate heaven on a plate. read more

This place is a hidden gem in the middle of the state. Great view of the lake, cool atmosphere, and awesome food. It is definitely worth to stop here and you will not be disappointed with the tasty food. Here is the Stuffed Cypert and fries that I demolished. This cheese stuffed burger was so tasty and I was in burger heaven while eating this. read more

We had a gift certificate to use and asked the waitress if we could still use it. Waitress said yes. To find out after we ordered that we couldn't use it as it was not Chad's. Not happy as we received this as a gift in the past year. I would of thought the person in charge would of came to us and talked about it. We we left the bartender never asked how the food was or a greeter. The workers seemed too involved with the local crowd. To me this is poor business and would NOT recommend this. read more
