I wish I had stopped by later in the day for cocktails - but for now, we were here with a desperate need for coffee. There were so many cool options in the menu like the Red Bean Matcha Latte, the Fig Apple Chaider or the Ca Phe Sua Da. But of course, I had to order the Pandan Iced Latte. I absolutely loved the nuttiness of the Pandan in a latte - I'm just surprised more coffee shops don't offer it. And the perfect offset to it was the Ca Phe Sua Da, or Vietnamese Iced Coffee. It wasn't as mind blowing, but still tasty. Next time I'm in Madison, I'm definitely stopping through for some cocktails!

We made a 12:00 PM reservation, which was definitely necessary because the place was full. Right off the bat, our server asked if anyone had food allergies or dietary restrictions. When I mentioned I have celiac disease, he confidently assured me they could absolutely accommodate it, which immediately gave me peace of mind. I ordered a strawberry spritz and we shared the gluten-free donuts to start. A huge win for the celiac community is that they have a dedicated fryer, so we also safely shared the truffle fries. For our main entrees, I had the fried rice which was excellent. My husband ordered the skirt steak hash with gluten-free toast and loved it, though it is worth noting for others that it packs quite a lot of spice. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive regarding the allergy protocols. The overall service ran a little slow, but it was understandable given how slammed they were for the Sunday rush. As an added bonus, the restaurant has its own parking lot, making the logistics seamless. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this spot, especially fellow celiacs looking for a safe and delicious meal!

Since it was nice outside we opted to eat on the small patio which was nice. Our server was was very good and kept things moving. It was happy hour so we ordered two of their spritzes which were $6 each - they were both good (strawberry/ limoncello). Appetizers were supposedly $10 each during happy hour - we got the tempura veggies which were very good. We also got the chicken wings which we later found out when we got the bill that they were not considered to be an appetizer covered by the happy hour pricing (they should make this clearer on the menu.) The wings themselves were good but six wings for $18 was a ripoff. I get it that inflation is high but that is ridiculous... My wife got the fried chicken sandwich which was very dry. This was the same result last time we were here - I guess we should have read our review and avoided it. Overall it was just an OK experience - disappointing.

I was supposed to be meeting a group elsewhere nearby when our original place closed without warning. So we headed to The Mason and it was a delightful experience. It's a small place so it can get loud when busy, but our group had a great time and we enjoyed the place. It is a dark, neighborhood type vibe. Our server, Hannah, was absolutely wonderful. Her knowledge of the menu (we needed to some help with gluten free selections) thoughtful explanations, and perfectly paced service made the entire evening feel effortless. Truly top-tier hospitality. We started with an amuse-bouche of a warm autumn soup...lovely welcome to the meal. The salmon tartare with house-made chips had a wonderful balance of flavor and texture. Then came the roasted beets with crème fraîche and toasted hazelnuts, easily one of the standouts of the night. Unbelievably good. We shared two entrées: a medley of mushrooms over cheesy polenta, which was rich, comforting, and delicious, and expertly cooked cod with a creamy sauce that somehow felt both light and decadent. A small house salad rounded out the meal, and the cocktails were refined and every bit as impressive. I cannot wait to come back. If you haven't visited this lovely Madison bistro, please make it part of your dining journey....and hopefully you'll have the pleasure of having Hannah guide you through it.

While we did not eat, we browsed the menu and gawked at a few plates that came by. Food looked decent and as we were leaving they were tossing up the Friday Fish Fry sign, which I hate we missed. But what we didn't do in food, we did in beer. We each had a couple of rounds, all draft. We watched what sports were on, chatted with folks and just enjoyed the chill time and cold beer. So we for a bacon cheeseburger and a walleye fish fry since it was Friday. The bacon cheese burger came with the most bacon I have ever seen on a burger. Dare I say too much bacon. The burger itself was a little dry but all together kind of worked. The fish fry wasn't very meaty but the coleslaw and fries were good. Overall, solid place but it's not going to be the best food ever. It's a good place to start with friends then head downtown as the prices were super reasonable and the service was top notch. I'd round to a 3.5 if I could.
