The Missouri Tavern is an awesome country bar; open since 1940, you should definitely drop-in for beverage or two. It offers the perfect rural Wisconsin country bar vibe: after 86 years in business, it is the real-deal. Great bartender: good guy. new favorite dive bar to stop by for a quick drink. it has a very small town feel and even the occasional overly friendly drunk. I will be coming back and bringing friends! They do have a few air fried options but I would recommend eating before going. read more

Classic Wisconsin dive bar!! Came here for the meat raffle which was a lot of fun. Walked away with two lobster tails so no complaints here Drinks are cheap and the workers were great. They had a few bites on the menu - pizza, wings, mac & cheese bites, and of course some cheese curds! Did not try any but was definitely considering those Mac & Cheese bites! It's nice to have some snack options when you get the munchies so definitely appreciate that. There is a little outdoor seating area too but we did not venture out there. read more

I've driven by this place a thousand times, and anytime someone else is in the car with me they say, "we should stop there sometime" or "have you ever been to that place?" We took the plunge and stopped by on Saturday afternoon with our daughter (7) and this place is great! Admittedly biased considering we hit a $1,000 pull tab within the first few minutes (bonus 5th star). The bartender, clearly the owner based on his level of give-a-shits, was quick to get an order of chicken tenders for our daughter. The Bud bottles were icy cold, almost as good as The Plaza Tavern downtown. Daughter liked the chicken tenders and I liked their BBQ Sauce. They serve Fraboni's frozen pizzas which are amazing, especially well-done and crispy. You will burn your mouth, so order plenty in advance, but you will burn your mouth anyway. The place was clean and orderly. The pool table was in good shape and so were the other games. Pull tabs are always a plus. Other patrons were nice, especially to our daughter, and so was the owner. I'm glad we stopped but regretful we waited this long. read more

This is a common stop for us if we want a beer during a bike ride. The convenient location along the Hwy 12 bike path makes it ideal for this. Always experienced friendly and fast bartenders. Once they even opened early for us when we were with a group. Neat old bar that serves a lot of local beer and liquors, including Death's Door and (owner) Travis Haase's famous cherry pie, cow pie and apple pie liqueurs. It's a locals place, but they welcome everyone, including cyclists and motorcyclists. They have a pool table, TVs and a juke box. It's a great place to take out of town friends for an authentic Wisconsin tavern experience. read more

This fine snowy afternoon I drove passed this roadside tavern. As I've done countless times over the years. On my return trip I figured I'd stop in and see if it's a place I could add to the list of places I could enjoy. Decent music as I enter, and 3 others sat at the bar, two together and one solo. Nice greeting, I guess. The bartender is cordial and drops a napkin and asks how I'm doing. "Fine, loving the second round of spring late April snow, what's NOT to love?" Silence. Peculiar scent in the air. I request an IPA and a small mason jar (12oz presumably) with cold beer appears. Something smells. Silence, aside from the music, the two TVs have hockey, the man to my right is indifferent to my comment, and the bartender returns to talking to the two at the opposite end of the 10 seat bar. I guess she resumed, I was by this time looking at the various spirits across from me, Cabo Wabo tequila in particular. My mind is meanwhile pondering where the baby is at, I smell a shitty diaper. Alongside the first is a curious sight, a smoked out looking bottle, otherwise identical but looking like a limos window, meaning it's black. Poop. Yuck something smells like shit. I ask the price for a shot of the Cabo, $5, and she picks up the regular bottle, so I inquire about the other. She informs me it's an infused coffee bean blend. Hmm. I request a look to read the label, but say I'll have the regular. Meanwhile two ladies come in and sit to my left. They talk about some tv shows, order some drinks and carry on. I interjected a comment into their conversation, Shameless. Frank. (If you know the show, you know anything I could possibly say will not offend. Nice ladies. Quick little back and forth. Shitty diaper smell, reasonably decent service, but at the same time, it's clear, I'm an intruder and feel very unwelcome. As for the food, It's nothing special. Frozen Pizzas, a chef friend told me last week when he asked me if I knew the place. But aside from what I saw the two ladies being served, I'd say my assessment about frozen bar food is solid. I drink my beer, sip my tequila, pay up. Smile at bartender, say g'bye. Silence. Smells like shit. Not likely I'd ever return. I fact I know I won't. read more

Several TV's but minimal seating other than bar seating....I have yet to experience the outdoor seating but looks like a great place to catch the sunset. Good little bar here. This area on 12 doesn't have enough bars if you're on your way home from work or from some event in Sauk City. Not far from Middleton or West Side at all. Missouri Tavern is in the Mad City Cocktail Book, on so many pages! I've never tried their bar food offerings here but I would consider the pizza from the looks of it. The beer is cold and served in either a mason jar with a handle or a plastic cup if you go outside. I felt the plastic cup was bigger but perhaps this was one of those illusions. I appreciate the option to be outside on the picnic tables. It can get very windy and is undoubtedly loud because it's right on 12. Prices are great and service has been both very good and decent. They meet all the basic needs! read more

My favorite townie bar. This place is 100% the real deal. Apparently the former 90yr old owner would kick you out if you swore. Talk about history... Pitchers of new glarus are $8. I grew up just down the road in Ashton Corners, so I've been going to the Missouri Tavern since the 1970s. I probably stop in there about twice a month. They have a reasonably good selection of beer and an internet juke box. I'm most often in there with friends on Tuesday nights, and Henry the regular bartender on Tuesdays takes good care of us. They don't have food except for frozen pizza and an assortment of munchies. My absolute favorite time to go to the Missouri is in the summer, when you can sit out front at a picnic table and have a few beers and watch the world go by. A few years ago I took my sister there when she was home for a visit, and there were big thunderstorms moving in from the north west. We sat at the picnic tables for almost an hour, drinking Capital Wisconsin Amber and watching the storms move in. Lots of lightning in the distance before the storm arrived. Then the power went out when she was in the restroom . . . but we managed to deal with that. The bar is in a historic old building that Travis Hasse remodeled a few years ago. The restrooms are SMALL. I was in there last week and the place was packed with snowmobilers when we arrived. read more

Do NOT play video poker here. After winning a large sum of money, Travis Hasse first of all accused me of cheating even after his machines were all checked out. He is now claiming it was a bad board in the machine as he called and yelled at me about it. NOT my problem Travis. I guess the more money that you have, the more you like to rip people off. I went here on a Friday night with a group of people. We were mostly just drinking beer, but then we decided to have a round of shots. Originally we were going to do shots of tequila, but they were out of silver tequila. We then decided on having lemon drops. The bartender then complained that he hated making these shots, so he was going to have one if he had to make them. Too bad he couldn't correctly make a lemon drop. Myself and one other person then asked if we could do the shake of the day. He said we could and then walked away. He didn't really appear to be doing anything at that point. When he finally came back by us it was to get a drink for the guy next to us. We asked again about the shake of the day. He then said, "I'm too busy for that. You'll have to do that some other day." The funny thing is that they weren't that busy. There was really no justification for him snapping at us or not having the time to do anything. This bar manages to get worse though. The women's bathroom doesn't have a lock on the door. There were two times during the hour and a half when I was there were women had the door opened on them. I would suggest doing what we did and having someone stay outside the door for you. read more

They only serve pizza but the Pearls Mac & Cheese pizza is crazy amazing! I would have never thought. Delicious.
