We are travelers and had a hard time finding a brunch spot downtown that didn't have a long line out the door, saw this spot recommended by locals on Reddit and even though they too were packed - we were lucky and got into a table for two almost immediately. They were efficient with the flow of people, most not having to wait. They offer self-serve coffee ($3)/water, and can order other drinks - I thought the coffee was well brewed. Our server was kind, attentive, and our food came out fast. We went with the carnitas verdes and the rooster. Both were decent, good portion size, and good value. We preferred the rooster a bit more - like a breakfast blt - super flavorful sauce on it and good bacon! The carnitas just didn't hit for us, lacked the flavor we were looking for but the meat was well cooked. Loved the ambiance and vibes here, felt like an old school small town spot where everyone hangs!

Another great experience at Tip Top Tavern for date night! Server was great and moved quickly through the entire space. Food was on point! GF bun wasn't tough or dry.

One of the best burgers in town @tiptoptavern! Tip Top Burger includes heritage farms grass-fed beef with lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles and tip top special sauce served on a buttered bun.

Memorable and super helpful staff. That's my 87 y.o. Dad's description, which is high praise. Finding somewhere to eat on game day in Madison is challenging to say the least so we were happy to find this place. The atmosphere is traditional Wisconsin tavern but the food is a step up! Loved their take on an eggs Benedict and the Bloody Mary was excellent. when in Madison looking for brunch, stop in! (Or for a beer later in day)

Bustling area of Madison with great service and excellent food. This place has charm of an old Wisconsin tavern, love the new cozy space added inside. The brunch menu, Pastrami Hash, chef's kiss! Enjoy having the self service station for water/coffee.

First time here and its a cute small bar/restaurant. I ordered the mushroom melt with butternut squash. It was absolutely delicious. My bf ordered the burger. I had the sweet potato fries which were super good. Love that the meal comes with a side salad. The dressing was so good it was sweet, tasted like strawberries. I definitely want to come back when in town.

I took out lunch on a Friday afternoon. I went for their Friday special beer battered cod fry. For side I went for loaded baked potato, which was good. Fish fry was good as well. Coleslaw wasn't as good. The place was empty on Friday afternoon. They didn't have a parking lot. But there was plenty of street parking.

We had some old fashioneds before ordering food, and I thought they were good. Service was super attentive, especially as we delayed ordering to enjoy drinks and an appetizer for a bit. I ordered the beer battered cod fish fry (my staple), and overall it was yummy to eat. The two pieces that came out were enormous and a bit wonky shaped... made me wonder what on earth this fish looked like in its swimming days. The batter was quite tasty, crunchy but not too crunchy/hard, but it was so incredibly think I'm not sure I got fish in every bite. I took one piece home and give the fish part to my pup as a meal topper, and the ratio of breading I had to pull off compared to fish was a bit (quite a bit) much. Still, everything I ate was tasty. I got the salad with my dinner, and was so happy that it came out with quality greens instead of a chunk of iceberg type lettuce. Overall, I'd come back again if others wanted, but wasn't wild about the batter to fish ratio.

Ordered the soup and half sandwich special for $6!!! Soup was good flavor but the consistency was chalky, you can tell it was on too hot and milk had split. Sandwich was perfectly grilled and served with a pickle. Nice portions for how extremely reasonable. Servers were helpful and quick, they both helped each other and had a good time behind the bar.
