We stopped at Lucky's 1313 Brew Pub, as we were in the area, and my husband wanted to try it out. We arrived early in the afternoon. It wasn't very busy at that time, which was a plus, as we were served quickly. We started out with their house brews. They were decent. I had the Porter, and as I drank it, loved it at first, the flavor wavered, and became very light. The first order was cheese curds, they came out popping hot, and had a delicate crispness on the outside, and melting, which I assumed, white cheddar on the inside, served with their house ranch dressing. The serving size was very large. They were delicious. We both ordered the bacon jam burger with fries. The burgers were cooked to perfection, although, it was supposed to have smoked gouda on the burger, but appeared to have cheddar on it. I use smoked gouda, sometimes, when I cook, and it has a delicious smoky rich taste to it, but I didn't taste that on this burger. The burgers were large and filling. I could taste a bit of the bacon jam, but would have liked more, to make it more exceptional. The tomato focaccia bun was awesome. The fries were delicious, sliced thin, and had an awesome soft crunch. Overall, the food was delicious, and we will revisit it again. read more

We stopped here for lunch and found ourselves to be the only ones here during our whole time. I enjoyed my hazy ipa. The group had a couple Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, street tacos and I got the French dip with tots. Everyone agreed the fries were really good and we liked our friend. The bartender took care of us and was efficient. Only taking a star off because the women's restroom was not in great order. Toliet paper on the ground and rolls of toilet paper tucked in stalls because the dispensers were empty. Overall a neat space with lots of room. read more

We had a big group meeting before a UW women's volleyball game. None of us had been here so we gave it a try. It was early so we were able to snag a booth for ten. This place is huge and airy and my guess on football Saturday's it is packed. Since there was an event they had a very limited "game day" menu via a QR code. There were maybe a dozen items on the menu. Our waitress did a good job serving us even as he bar filled up. I got their OG burger which had two types of onions on it. It was OK at best. It might have been a frozen burger patty especially since they couldn't cook it medium rare. Thus it was a bit dry. The price did include fries which isn't the case at these days. Some got pizza which they were surprised that it was good even though it looked like a Tombstone pizza. Again typical bar food. Overall OK for what it is. Just don't have high expectations. read more

Sunday football review: Place has a weird smell, but that's kind of expected given the typical scene. Their local brews are solid, nothing spectacular. The pretzel was good, nice and hot but not too dry. The cheese was stadium nacho cheese so that's a bit unfortunate. The wings are solid, I got the jerk and Cajun dry rubs and preferred the Cajun. Fries were crispy and actually one of our favorite parts. read more

The Madison West Class of 1984 hosted our 40th reunion last night at Lucky's! it was a fabulous party! the staff was so helpful and accommodating! it's our second reunion that we've held in the private room. it's spacious, private bar and reasonable. Horrible place/staff/owners/management. Visited on a Saturday after the Badger football game. Packed, as always. I had a close friend visiting from Germany for his first Badger experience. Lucky's was just too damn much, nothing but a mosh pit of drunkenness, so we left...out the back door, which was very nearby. Apparently, we broke some kind of rule because we were immediately accosted by a female staff member who was rude as hell and physically grabbed and pushed us both back toward the door, yelling at us that we had to go out the other way....THROUGH the mosh pit to the front doors. Yeah, I took that up with the manager via email and received nothing but more rude b.s. in reply. No apologies, no admission that employees shouldn't be laying hands on me, no clarification on what the hell happened. News flash. . .all doors are exits and if I want to use one to exit, I will use the closest damn door to do so. Train your staff MUCH better, do not touch anyone unless they are a threat, and learn how to be "managers". read more

Accidentally found my way here today while I was actually heading to the bar across the street. I was drawn in by the huge open windows and large draft selection that we could see all the way from outside. Right off the bat, I loved the atmosphere, it was rustic and large, but still felt homey and had the appeal that of a family dive bar. The bartender was nice and let us try a few of their beers; I settled on the Gose which was delicious and then finished with a Pale Ale which was just as good. The selection was great, and it even looked like they brewed some of their own beer? The appetizer selection was great too, and we settled on some buffalo fried cauliflower which was to. die. for. Some of the best I have ever had! They were perfectly crisp with a lovely buffalo sauce. My boyfriend was skeptical that he would like these but was proven very wrong! For our entrees I got the portobello burger which was much more filling than it looked, and equally as delicious. My boyfriend got this double 7oz patty beef burger which he could not even finish - it was giant! All in all, the meals were great! I've been a semi regular here for Wednesday night Trivia (If you get the chance to play, it's a blast). They have daily deals for both food and drink. Food: On the whole it's pretty average bar food, but they have some interesting dishes. The pretzel and nacho appetizers are HUGE and pretty tasty. I really love pretzel buns and Lucky's are great. Their tater tots have a little crunch to them. Ambiance: I've never been when it's crazy busy, but there are a ton of tables so you don't need to worry about getting seated. There's a big bar you can sit around too and I know there are regulars that practically call this place home. Service: Honestly a little confusing. Sometimes when we come a waitress will serve us and sometimes they just don't walk up to our table so we will go order from the bar. In general very helpful. They've forgotten the peanut butter on the sticky burger and to switch the bun to a pretzel bun. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. It was fairly busy as it was football Sunday, and the weather was gorgeous. They had the doors open. The inside is super cool, and there is a lot of space. They have extra space that they open for Badger football games as well, and it's always packed! The waitress was pretty good - fast and efficient. The food was fantastic! I had the Cubano, and I truly enjoyed it! Tons of flavor! Others in the group had burgers and mac and cheese. I tried the mac and cheese, and it was ok. I ordered the tater tots with my sandwich, and they were ok, but I tried the French fries and they were awesome! The seasoning on them was excellent. Everyone was very happy with their food. I have been here a handful of times over the past 6 or so months. They have their own beers, and i enjoy the red ale the most. I have never been disappointed in my meals here, and the burgers are always a good bet. The nacho plates are good and can be ginormous! The western/cowboy burger is good too. The place is a converted oil change/car service place, so on nice summer days the overhead garage doors can open for a pretty cool ambiance. read more

This is a wonderful place with a great staff and a solid selection of beer. My wife and I wandered in here looking to try some beer. The bartender set us up both with $10 flights so we could sample their wares. My wife and I both have different tastes in beer (she prefers IPAs and I stouts), but we both found something to enjoy. We actually both agreed on the Raspberry Porter and can highly recommend it. For a nightcap, she had an Old Fashioned (Wisconsin style with bourbon and brandy) and I had bourbon, neat. Both a good deal as the Old Fashioned was on special for $5 and the bourbon was a solid pour for a fair price. The staff was great! The bartenders gave us great service and interesting conversation. One of the owners was sitting near us, and he also joined in the conversation. The staff also took care of us by turning on one of the TVs to the Braves game, as we are huge fans. I've been to this Lucky's location a couple of times now and it is a big upgrade from their former location. The bar is huge, there is plenty of seating, there is outdoor seating, and they have large garage doors that open up for the summer in the front and back of the bar. The waiters were friendly and quick. One thing I like about this bar is the large number of TV screens and they also have dart boards! They just came out with their own beers recently in March, I tried the red ale and the Special Badger, I have to say that I was not overly impressed, they had a flat taste to them and reminded me of bud light. Overall, I love the new Lucky's and I will continue to frequent this bar/restaurant. read more

The appetizer was awesome! My burger was a little dry but I think it was because I had to send it back because it was on the wrong kind of bun... But hey, if I am paying an upcharge for a different bun... I want that bun. Haha! The food was good! I wish I was able to have some drinks but I had to work so booooooooo. There was only one waitress here so service was a bit slow, but we had time... kind of. But she was really friendly. The place was pretty nice and clean. Parking could be confusing if you aren't familiar with the area but they do have parking in the back. There's also a Poke Stop across the street so that was fun for my nerdy self. Would I come here again? Heck yeah! The food was too good to not come back and the drinks looked and sounded good so next time, I will be sure to have no plans so I can sit, eat, and drink. :) read more

I typically avoid writing a review for an atypical situation but after last night, I feel I need to. As with other weekends when a state tournament is in town (football, wrestling, etc), many restaurants (on Regent St. in particular) simplify and condense their menu to handle the onslaught of people that visit. I get it, to handle the slam of people, this is a necessity. It is a perfect storm of St. Pattys weekend, NCAA basketball and state basketball so I was expecting this when I stopped in to meet up with a friend. My first disappointment came when our server brought our beer back in small plastic cups. Really? At least get plastic pint glasses-you are a restaurant not a basement at a frat house. The bigger disappointment came when I ordered a cheeseburger ($8) and tater tots ($3) as a side. I barely blinked and the food was already at our table-not a good sign as it indicates they were preassembled ahead of time. The patty tasted that is was made with a mixture of beef and filler as it had a mushy feel to it. Cheese barely melted. The tater tots were luke warm. For $11, I was served a meal that was worse than what I would have received at a fast food restaurant. And this is what compels me to write this. I feel Lucky's approaches these situations as a money grab vs. an opportunity to win customers or at very least, have pride in delivering a good experience. They assume that most customers are from out of town and that delivering poor food and service is acceptable as they won't be back anyways. The problem is that there are some, like myself, live in the neighborhood or are local to Madison. Based off my experience last night between the food, beverages and the shoddy service, I don't see myself every coming back. There are too many other places (like across the street or right down the block) that actually care about what they put in front of the customer. read more

My second trip here. The food is above average for pub food (try the bbq chicken burger with pineapple), the beers are very good, and I have had above average service on each trip. I like the casual feel of this place. The feel of the place gets a 4. The food gets about a 3. I have been wanting to check out this place for a while and was super excited when others chose this place for dinner. We were told to check out their $9 Bavarian pretzel (on app menu). IT IS GINORMOUS! It is best as an app for 3-5 people. It comes with a cheese sauce and mustard sauce. Both are good options. After the pretzel, I opted to share a Cubana sandwich. It was ok. I've had better Cubanas elsewhere. The bread was soggy and the filling was pretty flavorless. Another at my table ordered a burger. It came out over done and kind of dry. For me, typical bar food. I will definitely try this place out during game day. I have a feeling that it gets quite busy and would be a fun place to watch a Badger game with friends. read more
