We ended up buying a house within stumbling distance, and needless to say, the Malt House has become a favorite neighborhood hangout. The bartenders are friendly, and if you have questions about any of the beers in their gigantic selection, they will gladly tell you what they know with no beer snobbery whatsoever. They occasionally have live music, but it's acoustic, so it doesn't get too loud in the tiny space. It's far enough away from downtown that it doesn't get obnoxiously crowded. They don't have food, but you can order delivery or bring your own in with you. I LOVE this bar. Period.
