Gosh I love this place. Most times that I suggest it to people they don't know that it is here, but this is a hidden gem indeed. While the brewery is gluten free, the beers are still delicious and I'd never know the difference. They have a good variety on tap and snacks/pizza if you want something to munch on. The last time I was here, I got both a porter and a hazy IPA. Very different ends of the beer spectrum, but both were fantastic. If I hadn't been a driver, I definitely would have indulged in more! It's a fun modern/industrial space that's very open concept and has a little game room full of board games in the back. Bartenders have always been knowledgeable, personable, and provide great service. The last time I was there, it was raining, but looks like they've added a little outdoor patio space. It was really refreshing to find out that this brewery (located in a business park and near a technical college in Madison) brews/serves gluten free beer exclusively. I tried Hollywood Nights which was a very refreshing IPA. There was only one bartender the day we stopped in and he wasn't very friendly. I wouldn't let it stop you because the beer is solid and they do support the gf community. We missed their first gf festival by a day so hopefully it will be an annual event. read more

They had a variety of beers to chose from and even though I did not have any beer, everyone who did seemed to enjoy their selections. They had a variety of IPAs and lagers. One of my all time favorite breweries! We live in Milwaukee and make special trips just to go to Alt! The amazing variety of gluten free beer is top notch. Ripped Jeans and Wolf Shirts is one of my favorite! Whenever my friends visit Madison, they know to ask if I need any requests to stock up. All of the bartenders are always friendly and helpful. This place was fantastic. It's one of the few completely gluten-free breweries in the country, and their juice is very tasty. Super friendly staff. They also allow you to bring inoutside food as long as it is gluten-free, and fortunately there are a few places in very close proximity with great gluten-free food options. We took a bunch of bottles home with us, and we will be making more trips up to Madison to vist again in the very near future. read more

"I'm home. -Every celiac ever Came here with my fiancé and in-laws on their recommendation. All beers were gluten free and it was the first time I had a full beer flight of all their options. My recommendations were the 1808 and Hollywood Nights. Great place. Nearly brought a tear to my eye since I wasn't limited to the back page of a menu when it came to drinks for a change. A gluten free brewery?! AMEN. I hope GF breweries are a new trend... I miss craft beer now that I'm gluten free! This place is definitely getting me my fix of good beer. The beer. They had 8 different GF beers on tap - and a really nice variety! I loved their Blonde IPA and Double IPA! Beer is so tasty, it would be easy to not realize you're drinking a GF beer. They offer pints and build-your-own flights! $3/beer to a flight. Great way to try them all! Plus you can get a growler to go. The space. Awesome taproom. Nice, open space. Lots of seating directly at the bar. And lots of tablets for group seating. They have board games, arcade games and bags/corn hole - so pretty much whatever tickles your fancy from an entertainment standpoint! The food. We only tried the pizza, so it's hard to say. In general, the food was fine/ok. I'm not going to knock the star rating down because you go to a space like this for the craft beer. Not the food. Their food will get the job done, and that's all I can ask for. If you want a real meal, this isn't your place. Better for snacks. read more

We visited Alt Brew earlier this week. Finding Alt Brew can be tricky. It's in a strip mall which doesn't actually face the road and there is not a lot of neon signage so it's very easy to drive by. However, once you find the turn-in, there is plenty of parking. The Alt Brew space is very open. There's a large bar area with multiple tables to sit at. A cool game room full of pin-ball machines. Another very open area with limited seating and what looks like a table-top curling table. Through glass windows you can view the brewing areas. The beers are all gluten free. I really enjoyed the Copperhead which is a malty, chocolaty copper ale. Beyond the space, I also appreciated the food menu. We had the nachos which were surprisingly tasty. The salsa and sour cream are served in containers on the side. We didn't try the pizzas but our friends highly recommended them. It's a fun place to relax, have a drink, and play some pin-ball. read more

I'm impressed with their beers, which are all gluten free and manage to taste really good! The tap room space is beautifully designed and we enjoyed a great conversation with the owner to learn more about it and about how he started the business. I think the business is growing at a pace the owner and his wife can manage. It will be great to watch it continue to grow. While I don't have celiac disease, I certainly feel much better with a reduced gluten diet, and this is a great alternative to traditional beer that doesn't taste watered down. More and more places around town are serving their beers. Right now, check out their beers at the Parched Eagle in Westport and at Charlie's on Main in Oregon (among others) plus your favorite liquor store. The tap room serves samplers, a great way to taste everything at once. You can also fill a growler. read more

Love the Gluten Free beer options! Hollywood Nights and Cooperhead are my favorites so far. Looking forward to trying the Belgian Tripel next time we visit. A group of us stopped before heading out to a downtown show - was loads of fun with the pinball machines and open space. Owners were onsite when we were there, very informative and great hosts! We've become something of regulars here on Saturday afternoons. This is definitely some of the best gluten free (not gluten removed, actually brewed without gluten) beer I've ever enjoyed. The flavors of each style of beer come through strong and are spot on. The only complaint is that heavier beers don't get the "chewy" texture you're used to in a glutenous beer, but that's as to be expected. There's a nice rotation of selections as well - although I do wish they carried more of their flagship beers on the regular. And I'm not a hops lover so I could do without the hoppy beers; but I know there are others who enjoy that style. There is a small selection of gluten-free snacks available. And they offer free snacks for kids like milk, granola bars, etc. It's a great place to hang out sans gluten. Tons of table space plus an arcade. You won't even miss the gluten! read more

It's very difficult to find a variety of gluten free beers, let alone a dedicated gluten free brewery. Alt is a great place. The staff is friendly and the beer is amazing. They offer flights of whatever you want or you can order by small or large glass. They will also give you growlers for free and you just pay for the fill. After visiting Karben 4 we walked over to Alt Brew to check out some more Madison goodness and were kind of disappointed. The brewery is nice...there's plenty of seating and there's even games strewn around to play with while you're hanging out. The staff is nice too...they work hard and are very accommodating. Even the brewery 'idea' is nice too...it's refreshing to see more gluten free options out there for people who need it (especially in beer form...ciders probably get real old real fast). BUT, for people who don't need to have gluten free beer, this just might not do it for you. The beer was average (compared to beers with gluten at least) and the food didn't appear to be much more than average either (though I didn't try it so I can't really say). I've said this before and I'll say it again. I hate to hate on people's brews. I know how hard it is to make a decent beer. It can only be harder to make a decent gluten free one. No other gluten-free beer will be as good as the ones offered here. A brewery in it's very early stages, the Alt Brewery offers a wide area to mingle within it's almost endustrial-esque space, all while making it feel like a unique experience aided by the pingball room in the back. Their arrangement of gluten-free beers include two ales, a (light but delicious) honey-infused ipa, and seasonal taps such as a Belgian brew and a unique coffee stout. Their limited releases vary but are always amazing. Their bartenders are also very friendly and make great conversation. Oh, and did menition most of their beers are 5% or more? Great gluten free beer, I can't taste the difference between this and regular beer to be honest. They do have beer that you can buy onsite in bottles, and they have some good appetizer type dishes, I got the pepperoni pizza and enjoyed it more than other gluten free pizzas I've had. Sometimes there is a gluten free food tent outside called V's gluten free with awesome fried GF food. Bartenders have always been friendly, I've never encountered any bad customer service here. It's a smaller taproom with decent amount of bar and table seating and even some arcade games. I've never seen it too packed so it's cool to stop by even just on your own. I decided to stop by this place to try out their gluten-free beers since all the reviews looked promising. Overall, the beers were nice and well flavored. There was definitely a different character to the background grains/base, but that's to be expected. I really liked the coffee stout/porter that they had on tap! I first came to Alt Brew for their opening. I am not gluten intolerant, and to be honest I was not excited to try to the gluten free beer. However, it is amazing! I have tried all of them and don't care whatsoever that they are gluten free. They are a bit boozy, so beware. The bar has other Wisconsin beers to drink. There is a great selection of pinball machines also. The staff is great, friendly and excited to talk about their beer. All in all it's a great spot spot to hang and drink local craft brew. So good! I'm not gluten-sensitive myself, so i couldn't help but approach gluten-free beer with a bit of skepticism, but...it's rad! I'm not into very hoppy beers, but the Copperhead and Brown Ale really hit the spot. Owners and entrepreneurs Trevor and Maureen Easton have obviously put a lot of heart and soul into the family operation. Came here on a Saturday afternoon, not busy at all. My friend and I both got the beer flights and loved every sample they had. Everything on tap was gluten free, and they were all much lighter than other wheat beers I've had. The space is cool with tons of pinball machines, board games and shuffle board. I decided to do a small brewery tour of Madison WI and this was one of the spots on my list of places to check out. This is really more of a 3.5 star review, not because of the service or anything, but they were out of the only 2 beers I wanted to try. The beer I had was decent, but the 2 they were out of sounded a lot better and more my style. The space is clean and sparse, a few tables and bar stools, cement floors in an industrial complex. The cool thing they have that most of these types of breweries don't, is a back room filled with old pinball machines. Service was good, no other complaints, besides being out of 2 out of 7 beers. I absolutely love this place. All of their beers taste great and there are a lot of options and new ones frequently. I love that you can buy bombers or growlers to take with you. The board games are a fun touch and staff has always been friendly. Food is kinda mediocre but the beer is their main draw I think.
