We had a party of ten and this was the only place in town, that we found/knew of, that could seat all 10 of us together. The food was standard/average. The hostess and server were very accommodating and friendly. My 7 year old granddaughter's caught the Alaskan Waffles. She ate 1/4 waffle and 3/4th of the strawberries, whip cream and scoop of vanilla ice cream. I had the chicken bowl and it was ok. Nothing special. I could taste the processed chicken so k ow it was t a u processed chicken breast sliced up. My husband said his biscuits and gravy were bland with little meat in it. To be fair, the menu says biscuits and gravy, not biscuits and sausage gravely so I think that makes a difference. I told him to just be sure when it just says gravy to ask if it has sausage in it. We needed gas and breakfast on our way home. Suzy's recommended here. I got a basic breakfast since I love hash browns. Everything was right including OE eggs. I got to sample a pancake too and that was good. It was packed. I love a good old standby ethnic diner. There was a young gal there who was a runner/busser and she was so helpful to us. So glad she was there. I enjoyed our server too. I'll be interested in trying the Friday fish fry next time. read more

Went to the bar to watch the Packer game. Its been remodeled and looks really nice and clean. We had their specials. A balanced meal for under 10.00. I had the turkey dinner with dressing and mashed potatoes and gravy. Choice of salad or soup. My friend had the fried chicken. The portions were large and seasoned perfectly. Fish fry was great on Friday night so we came back the next week. The Crispy chicken wrap was large, meaty and added just the right amount of buffalo sauce upon request. Wendy was our server and she was very friendly and being the only waitress, did a great job in paying attention to our table. She was the best part of our visit. Wendy is the reason for the one star. Since you likely won't be dining here just to see how great Wendy is, I must rate the food. If you order the bacon potato soup, just be prepared for there to be ABSENT BACON! I originally thought the small flakes floating were part of the potato peeling; no, bacon flakes here and there. Very disappointing. I ordered the salmon. Mistake. It was the poorest quality salmon I've ever eaten, sadly. The veggies served with it were overcooked. I hardly touched my plate. I was honest and told her it wasn't my favorite. My husband ordered the Reuben and he said it was ok, but he's had better. His fries had some sort of coating on them that he didn't care for. The carrot cake was meh, the cheesecake had a strawberry gelatin-like layer all over the top....The cheesecake underneath the gelatin was average. Coffee was, well, your typical restaurant coffee. I stopped by Dino's Restaurant on my way up north for lunch with my uncle. They have a very fine lunch menu with specials, sandwiches, soups and even full dinners. There special that day was a fish sandwich and soup. I went for that as did my uncle. I choose their chile rather than the soup of the day. The chile was excellent with a large amount of shredded cheese on top. It was hot and nice and thick, full of meat. The fish sandwich was huge, sticking out both sides of the toasted bun. Lettuce, tomato and a side of very good tarter sauce came with the sandwich. The service was great and friendly. read more

It's time for a change, Dino's. This place is older than I am, and I don't think it's changed one bit in the entire time it has been open. Nothing appreciable has changed in my lifetime. If they've even revised the menu I haven't noticed from visit-to-visit because it's all been the same plain, boring stuff. Over the years, I've been drug here by my grandma a handful of times. The old bitties seem to love this place. Her especially. I'm not talking down on my grandma, she's an amazing old lady, but her taste in restaurants is sometimes pretty questionable. Usually she can be persuaded into heading somewhere else, but every now and then her mouth is set for Dino's and I end up swallowing my hesitations and tagging along out of some sense of politeness or respect for the elderly or something. I've only ever done the lunch and dinner. Maybe breakfast is better, but I doubt it. Everything I've had here has just been bland and depressing. I'm not sure they even season their food. I once had a burger--I think it was called the Memphis burger. It was basically a patty of meat with some disgusting cole slaw on it. Dino's, here's a hint: When you top a food meant to be served hot with a food meant to be served cold, everything becomes lukewarm and disgusting. It might have been salvageable if the cole slaw actually tasted okay, but it was way too vinegary. "But Adam, why would you even order something stupid like that?" you might be asking. The burger was specifically suggested to me by the server, is the short answer. I figured it was at least worth a shot with her endorsement. Nope. It was what you'd expect. Other options--even ones that didn't necessarily sound bad--were barely better. I had a chicken sandwich once that, in classic Dino's style, probably hadn't seen seasoning and was served with some really pathetic tomatoes and wilted lettuce. Grady O's review still rings true (although I disagree on the last bit, Portage has a handful of good options, this just doesn't happen to be one of them). Every single time I've been here the place has just been dark. There's plenty of windows on the back wall of the main dining area and there's some light from above, but the walls and floor just absorb light. The dining area just seems...well, sad. If I can help it, I'll avoid this place in the future, but I'm half-afraid I'll get drug back again. read more

We were at Dino's for dinner on St. Patrick's Day & the bartenders wore no masks when bartending, only when seating people in the dining room. I couldn't believe it! Masks are required in Dane Co. & I guess they figure this is acceptable in Columbia Co. You are a business people, set an example! We won't be back there until Covid is over! read more

I have been coming here with my family most every Sunday for the last 5 years. I love this place. I always get a great meal but I always start with the creamy chicken soup, its the best soup ever i'm not just saying that i'm serious. My mother-in-law had a gift certificate to Dino's and wanted to take us to diner. I read the reviews and thought "OH NO" time to start taking the pepcid AC and get ready for a bad experience. Much to my surprise the diner and service were very good. Much above my expectations. I had the twin filet and they were cooked to med/rare as asked. The baked potato was very good as my hot fudge sundae for desert was excellent. My wife had a fish platter that turned out very well. Our service was very good. I will repeat when in the area again. One of the past reviews talked about how dark and dirty it was. We did not find that to be the case. They had a large party tonight so we were not able to sit in the main dining room. We looked at it and it was decorated nicely and not dark at all. We sat in an overflow room. Not much atmosphere to write home about, but we were there to eat and left satisfied. read more

This place is pretty scary. Dark and old with a weird feel. Depressing to the point I actually started thinking of my own mortality. Don't look up at ceiling tiles! You will get sick to your stomach thinking of all the smoke and grease absorbed into them through the years. Food was very average. If your over 80 it's a great option since your taste buds are gone anyway. Nice bland nursing home food. Dino style. I guess if your trapped at the hotel you have little choice as Portage is as bad as it gets for options. I temper any review of eateries in Portage simply because there are very few places that I would consider restaurants. Dino's is one of them. I've been here for breakfast, for lunch and for dinner. I've been here with groups several times. I would give them four stars for service. They're friendly, and really attempt to make your meal pleasent. But the food there is rather simple and straightforward. In general I would say that it receives three stars. They have a very nice Friday fish fry. They also have a rather extensive bar area and the drinks are very reasonably priced. If you are stuck in Portage, Dino's would be a satisfactory place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. read more

Went here for food after a funeral. We had to pay $9 a person for a sandwich "buffet". Well it was anything but a buffet. They had stale buns and white bread from the local grocery store. The meat was all just lunch meat. When we arrived we didn't think that everything was out. There were almost no condiments. When someone went to ask for cheese and mustard the waitress was very rude to her. For sides our choice was potato salad. That was it. A meal like this reminded me of a high school lunch. Absolutely not worth the $9. Finally the waitress got a $60 tip that we had no control over because there was a built in gratuity. She deserved no tip. Nobody got anything to drink except for water and all she did was stand there in the corner and looked just delighted to be there. I'm curious to know if he would be willing to have this meal at his own mothers funeral. I will not be returning there and the owner should be ashamed of himself for serving such a terrible meal. read more

I posted on my Facebook page about what they offered for a funeral lunch @ $9.00 a plate, hamburger bun, no butter, cold cuts and a bowl of Dawn's potato salad, no cheese plate, nothing to drink only some bad coffee.
