How have I not reviewed this yet? This was my first dining out experience in London, and it lived up to expectations. My friend and I decided we were on a mission for food while in London, and what else are you going to get besides curry? FISH AND CHIPS of course. My haddock was delicious and incredibly filling. I particularly enjoyed the smooshy peas. I wasn't sure what I was getting into with that, but I really enjoyed them. And of course the chips were delightful. We visited fish! early in the day, so it was basically when they first opened. There was no one else in the restaurant when we arrived. It was a nice personal experience in my opinion, and as people started to filter in, the ambiance was a little more comfortable. Our conversation wasn't echoing through the empty restaurant. Service was friendly and professional. I would recommend this place for any tourist visiting the area. I also think that if you're in the mood to sit it's a better option than the take away counter service the have on the other side of the building. All around, a nice experience. Made me happy fulfilling my list of "to-dos" in London. read more

Fish was a recommendation from a friend who grew up in London and he was right. First of all he told us to order the plaice - not the cod - because it was a more flavorful fish. Ok, we did that. We were first shown a very small table right in a walkway and asked for another one up against a wall with a bench on one side. But otherwise the place was really good and was the experience and food we expected. I would say worth the trip especially if you find yourself in that area of the city. I visited the restaurant's takeaway fish and chips shop that's located right next door. I smelled the delicious, greasy goodness and had to get an order to share. There will most likely be a long line but locals told me that you can phone ahead and they'll have your order waiting for you so you can avoid the line. The portion size was large and plenty for two adults to share as a small snack. Several varieties of flavored ketchup and malt vinegar are provided free of charge; you'll have to pony up a little extra cash if you want mayonnaise or tartar sauce. There are different varieties of white fish (Cod, Haddock, Halibut) and what you get depends upon what's on offer that particular day. They say they serve fresh fish purchased from the market that day so availability is dependent upon what's the fresh catch of the day. The halibut will cost a few pounds more than the other fish varieties. I honestly can't remember what type of fish we were served but I do know that it was hot, fresh, and flaky. The beer batter wasn't greasy at all and had a lovely crunch to it. The chips were even better (but who doesn't love fried potatoes)? Note that there is very limited seating as this takeaway stand is in the bustling Borough Market. If you are lucky enough to get a stool take it immediately! Out of the different aromas of food in London's Borough Market, my nose scented the smell of Fish! I'm not so much of a fish eater, but prior to my visit I did find a tastier fish and chips in Notting Hill. Since Fish! Is labeled as "The proud winner of the National Fish & Chips Award" I felt I could be in a roll to find another good place. I went for the "Cod & Chips" (9.95). I did like how they serve a thicker piece of the fried cod. But the downside its mildly battered so the outside is not as crispy. There was a few bones within the meat, which it doesn't bother too much though. I believe their dipping sauce is their specialty, I didn't like it so much because It tasted like a combination of tartar sauce and coleslaw. I added some of the Sarson's malt vinegar for flavor, however it didn't help so much of it already being just an average fish. The portions of the chips was decent and they were good enough to be as a filler. We ordered a side of the "Mushy Peas" (2.25). It was the first time trying it this way. It's simple, creamy and lightly seasoned, it wasn't too bad. Overall, the experience was okay. I got excited at first but it lacked a little in tastiness. Stopped in here whilst shopping in the Burroughs marketplace to warm up a bit. The decor is nice with lots of glass windows. We ordered the cod fish and chips, the marinated anchovies and a few negronis. The fish and chips were pretty decent. Best in London (per their claims)? Doubtful. What was the star of the table were those marinated anchovies. So simple yet so delicious. They provided toothpicks as utensils for these which reminded me of Spain. Would return for the negronis and anchovies. The F&C, not so much. read more

So we decided to hit up the official Seahawk pub in London for the 2018 game vs. The Raiders, but it was pretty much a no go due to how packed it was and the enormous line that followed for the wait list to get in, so we decided to go down some stairs, and it led us to a pretty cool street market of food and drinks. Well, everyone else had the same idea, and places were quickly filling. Since we traveled with a large group, not too many places were accommodating. That is until, we came upon this place. They had a large outdoor seating area, and we were able to fit our group over three large table settings. We ordered some drinks, which were pretty damn good, and some apps with desserts. The calamari was beautiful crisp and just perfect. The dessert, which was a warm bread pudding, was incredible!!! Seriously delicious and perfect, with enough cinnamon and raisin to savor the flavor. My first time ever having this type of dessert. The Bloody Mary were good, as well. Our waitress, cute as a button, was having a hard time, though, with handling the orders and remembering who had what. I even caught her rolling her eyes a few times when patrons were standing in her way, when asked if we could pay our bills, and she had no idea who ordered what, and how much. She actually said this, "Please write down what you ordered and then I'll tally up your bill. She pretty much had no record of ANYONE'S orders. I totally get it, though... it's a busy night, lots of people, maybe she wasn't feeling well or maybe she just didn't like us Seahawk fans, who knows... but to be rolling your eyes, making faces... you have to know body language sometimes speaks more than words... and her body talk that night was that she was irritated, tired, or just plain out didn't care to be there, who really knows. Either way, it was good food, great times visiting with friends, and our overall experience was pleasant... it could just do without the attitude. After we left the Anchor Tap by Tower of London we were walking back to our hotel and came across this marketplace and found fish!. Trapezoids of glass created the exterior form of the restaurant and interior was brightly lit with open concept. Intrigued by the design we walked in and were immediately greeted and seated. There are so many different food stalls at Borough Market, but this is one of my favorite places in there. Sure, you can definitely get cheaper fish and chips elsewhere, but the quality of the fish here is really great. The batter is always fried perfectly and the fish is never tough or dry. They have malt vinegar, salt, and ketchup available on the side of the booth along with a few seats. I've never been able to snag a seat at the booth, but it's also fairly easy to eat fish and chips standing up. read more

There were lots of triple-cooked chips, but wish they had ketchup for the chips. We were given vinegar and salt for the toppings, which wasn't enough flavoring for my chips. We stopped by here for some lunch while visiting borough market and it wasn't the greatest experience for £99. My Dover cod was probably the most expensive thing on the menu at about £30. I felt that the fish wasn't as fresh as I'd like it to be and it was definitely under seasoned. We were told it's shareable but really, it's not. At least not for North American appetite. After drinks at shard we were looking for a place to eat and found this place by accident. It's one of the best seafood resultant. Lucky we got the table as soon as we entered, no wait time! I had classic prawn cocktail which is a starter. It was cooked to the perfection. Only problem was peeling prawns which is hateful task at late night. Nice looking place with a great fresh fish smell as you walk in. Unfortunately it did not totally live up to expectations. My friend had the fish soup and it was bland. I ordered fried mussels and cockles dish and it was the opposite, to heavily covered in a thick spice that was like chewing sand. Avoid. I originally wanted the oysters but they were out. The fried calamari however was excellent. Definitely worth ordering. Get this! Main course was fish and chips which was market price cod. It was nice but truthfully i noticed no difference from ordinary cod. Home made tarter sauce was nice and chips were cooked well. Don't bother upgrading the cod though. I wish it would have had some batter as no real crunch or texture. My friend had a bacon wrapped fish entree with pumpkin. It was good and I would get this instead. This place is super cute- located on the corner with lots of windows. I was not a good vegan and tried the fish. It was pretty good- I don't normally love fried food. I thought the fish was a little too heavy with the batter- and a little too greasy but good. There are so many good places to try that I wouldn't do this one again. I was wondering around the Borough Market, dazzled by the displays of produce, meat, seafood, cheese as well as food cooked to order. There were so many tempting treats but I told myself to take a look at everything before settling on a spot for lunch. However, that logic went out the window when I came across fish!'s counter, which is next to its sister restaurant. The lines were long and I saw a swarm of people, which is usually an indication of something good. fish! offers many options for fish and chips. I normally stick with halibut or haddock but noticed sea bream was the special of the day so went with that. After ordering and paying, I took my receipt and presented it to the cook behind the counter. He selected a piece of freshly fried fish, placed it on a bed of fries and presented me with a very hot box of this lovely British dish. The wait time was relatively short after my order was placed. I took my container of food to the table that held condiments - malt vinegar, salt and ketchup. Tartar sauce is available for purchase. There is very limited seating in the narrow walkway between this counter and the restaurant. Luckily for me, after standing for a couple of minutes a seat opened up. I had a nice view of the staff cooking up the fish while enjoying my meal. The fish was very fresh, light, flaky, seasoned well, very hot and not the slightest bit greasy. The batter was the perfect thickness and level of crispiness. I don't often eat fried food anymore and when I do I can become overwhelmed with effects from the grease. Not in this case! The chips were okay. I've had better, to be honest. Some were fried well, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside but the majority of the fries were rather limp and soggy, likely from having sat around. For the price, this meal was a great value. The quality of the fish was very high. Each order comes with a very large portion of chips. I would recommend splitting one order with another person if you're interested in trying more than one dish. They deserve their National Fish and Chips award. read more

Best fish and chips I've had! The fish is delicious and the crust is deliciously thin and not too oily. The chips aren't too bad either I must admit (being Belgian myself I always consider them better at home so I'm very severe on their quality abroad and trust me when I tell you they are well above average here) It's obviously well known in the area, the queue is long and consists mostly of locals. The price is reasonable for what you get and they're very nice. You will have to walk a while to find a seat though. Their chairs are scarce for the clientele they have and the few benches in Borough market are always full. The best thing to do is to walk towards the Tames and eat on a bench there. I don't know how this compares to other chip shops in London, but as an American it beats the heck out of any that I've tried here! This is the takeaway counter for Fish! (which is a sitdown, and has longer hours), and it is right next to it in the middle of the Borough Market. We got there maybe 15 minutes before they were closing on a Saturday night, and they were friendly enough, even though they were clearly trying to clean up to go home (or out for a drink, who knows). The portions were huge, and even though I don't normally like cod much, this was delicious. It had a crunchy crust even after dousing it in vinegar and walking back to the hotel, and the fish itself was flavorful without being overly fishy. The chips were so good that I ate 2/3rds of them through the side of the container while we walked. The only complaint I had, and this may be standard in the UK but was a surprise to me, was that you have to ask for tartar sauce and pay for it as an extra, rather than it being included in the price. Not a big expense at 45 pence, but it'd be pretty disappointing to walk away without it because you forgot to specify! read more

Really busy fish restaurant near Borough Market with loads of people and a great vibe. Came in here with a huge group of bloggers for an event so we had a set menu to choose from- I went with the prawn cocktail, the swordfish steak and vegetables and the bread and butter pudding for dessert. The prawn cocktail was huge and super filling so could barely eat my swordfish but it was cooked just right-medium rare and tender. I usually love bread and butter pudding but the custard had a film on it and was a bit cold. Would have preferred it nice and hot with ice cream. White wine was really nice. The atmosphere and design of this place really saves it, for me anyway. I was only visiting London for about 4 days and felt I could have ate somewhere with better food/value, especially near the Borough Market. I LOVE the glass ceiling concept and whole style of this place but without that, I would rate it a 2 due to how dry my Swordfish was and it really lacked flavor. I got it with the herb butter, which you would think would make it more moist, it was so dry. So sad because swordfish is my favorite and this meal was kind of expensive. I also had the brushcetta which was good, at least I could taste the garlic so I was happy with that. Oh I had a Mimosa which was really good and my boyfriend had a latte which was delicious, so there's that too. I would probably come back if I lived in London, but unfortunately, I live in the US so I probably won't be able to give this place a second chance. read more
