Looked up Best Fish and Chips while we were in London and Baileys was the one with the best ratings near our hotel at Earls Court. It was actually quite a trek from Earls and we didn't get there until just before closing and could only order for take out. Side note - the closest Underground station is Fulham Broadway (half mile walk) - we accidentally went to West Kensington (one mile walk) Baileys is a small mom and pop shop (literally!) with limited countertop style seating (maybe 8 people max). The place was immaculately clean and the service was very friendly. Mom took our orders and pops fried the fish. They were so nice! The fish was amazing! Huge portions! Full filets of haddock fried so perfectly that they were still hot and crispy and juicy even after our 25min walk and Underground ride back to our hotel. The inside was very clean and neat. The location is small and the inside seating consists of a small number of chairs at a small counter. We shared a large portion of cod and chips with mushy peas. Now I'm going to hate fries everywhere else I order them! The fish...I ordered a small Cod. I can usually only eat small portions of deep fried foods. This was absolutely perfect as well, crispy on the outside but moist thick fish in the inside. In the US, the steam from the fish usually makes it soft in spots, not here. Stayed crispy. While it may not be particularly helpful to add yet another positive review to the pile of positive reviews I feel compelled to point out when something is done this well. The fish was perfect. The service was kind, and even sweet. The place is no-frills and authentic. The only indication that this may be a tourist destination is the five-consecutive year TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence hanging unceremoniously on the wall. Otherwise, it feels exactly like a small, neighborhood lunch place. We ate in and there was a constant stream of take-out orders, all of which appeared to be by locals. For a period of about 4 months in 2017, I lived a 5-minute walk away from this place, and my first ever meal in the U.K. was an order of fish n chips from here, so this place holds a special place in my heart. The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is pretty cozy. It's a small space, so seating can get a bit cramped, especially since it's pretty popular and busy every day. You get a pretty generous amount of food for the price; I felt this was one of the cheapest places in London that I actually enjoyed getting food from. The food appears to be largely made to order, so there is a bit of a wait. The savory pies appear to be ready to go. A small cod and chips is plenty of food for 1 person; you could probably even split the chips. I also tried the pineapple fritters, which were so tasty and definitely a great treat. It had a high rating and it was a classic English dish so I figured it was worth a shot to try. I remember reading somewhere that in the UK, the fish and chips is better along the coast outside of London. I wish I had taken that advice more carefully. The fish was cod. I got the lunch special fish and chips which was a good deal. The fish had absolutely no taste to it. All I tasted was the heavy oil it was cooked in. I had to squeeze so much lemon juice on it plus tartar sauce plus the vinegar type sauce on the table to make it taste acceptable. The fries were great, but I'm expecting the whole meal to be good. The portion size for a lunch special was big so that was nice. Service was welcoming. Unfortunately, if I come back I will not get their lunch special again.
