I have been coming here for years and it's always been consistent in selection and service. Every fish store will have a sick tank or fish being quarantined for obvious reasons including keeping so many fish in one tank, new arrivals, etc .. to be expected. I feel that the people who say the fish they bought die once they get them home prob just are not that experienced or they have not maintained their tanks well leading to a lower PH so when you bring home new fish they die because most stores have a higher PH due to frequent water changes... Fish I bought recently came with Ich. I was suspicious when the puffers were infested and lame. Pray for my tank.

I have been in this hobby for 12 years, so no newbie. Fishland used to be ok. Late 2022c& this 2023, all hell has broken lose there: For 2 seperate purchases within 1 month, out of 4 Clownfish all of them died within 3 days. Prior to that 2 larger tangs purchased within December2022 & February this year died within 2 weeks. This week I wanted yo buy 1 Clown to match with the single one in my smaller of 3 tanks I own. Owner Kha Ngo said:"I have a very healthy pair". I told him introducing a pair to a single clown is a "no-no"! He argued Upon leaving, one of the other employees whispered to me: "He just took them out of the temporary tanks due to bad shape arrival last week". I am done with Fishland & strongly suggest you think twice, well maybe 3 times about this bad situation! read more

I called this store looking for a very specific product, that I needed to purchase ASAP and was having trouble finding. The store manager assured me they sold the product. Stuck in horrible traffic, I called the store again to confirm they did have the product. I was assured they sold it. After around a 50 minute drive I arrived to find out...they absolutely do not sell what I was looking for. An employee tried to convince me of the benefits of a different product and then the manager tried to tell me this was all my fault and "no one wanted what I needed." A total waste of time, unbelievably bad customer service. Needless to say, I didn't buy anything here, and I won't be in the future. read more

Have mostly chiclids, and live breeders and some exotic fish like a puffer. They offer a decent range of fresh water, salt water fish, and large stumps of drift wood, but no plants for aquascaping. The workers seems pretty laid back, and fairly helpful but their fish aren't in great health. I bought 2 Angels, a Electric blue Jack Dempsey , and a Green terror from them; and when i brought the chichlids home they manage to do fine, and are still alive. But on the other hand the 2 angles died after 1 day and manage to spread an internal perasite to my other fishes and killed off 1/2 my tank of fish. If you get fish from the then DON'T FORGET TO QUARANTINE or suffer the consequences read more

Avoid their livestock!! Half the fish have Ich and the others carry the disease. The owner sold me 3 different fish and all are dead now from Ich. My remaining fish have had to be moved to a hospital tank and they will still likely not survive!! I'm guessing I'll lose $300+ because I shopped here and didn't quarantine my fish. Here's my story: when the first fish showed signs I brought in pictures and the owner tried to convince me he never sold it to me, that went on for a while until I showed him the receipt. He then swears it's just that one and shows me the 5+ hospital tanks he has and claims if I bring it back he will cure it in 72 hours and the other fish will be fine. I realized then how much of a scam this place is, I've been doing this long enough to know that one fish in a tank has Ich they all have Ich. No chance the rest "will be fine." Also Ich can not be cured in 72 hours. It takes weeks to fully kill the disease, 72 hours just kills the symptoms. At this point my choices were limited. Regardless of the BS he was trying to spin I knew I'd have to build a hospital tank for all of my fish but figured at least if I bring the one fish to this guy when it dies maybe I'll be refunded. Well things get worse, he never even calls me after I drop off the fish and I show up after 2 weeks figuring he was too much of a coward to call and tell me it died, only to have him explain that it isn't dead. It's alive and "healed" after 3 days (Yea right) but he sold it and will instead give me another at half price. This is when I lost it, demanded a refund and went home to my depressing sick fish tank. I could go on and on about the pains and frustration this toxic store has caused me, about how the owner is a cheat and a con but I don't want to dilute the facts. This store has cost me 3 fish already and I wake up every morning wondering if my chevron tang is next. Do yourself a favor and avoid this store. If you've been in this hobby long you know there are good stores and there are bad stores. This is one of the bad stores. read more

I buy most of my fish from this store. The prices are very good and fish are "healthy." I put healthy in quotes because every fish store anywhere will have problems here and there. It is up to you to properly quarantine your fish and ensure its long term health. Having said that, most of the fish I purchased here are still with me. Around 3 months ago, I purchased a powder blue tang, which is considered as an ick magnet, and properly quarantined it. This fish never came down with ick and I only quarantined for observation and not medicate it. It is now fat and happy. If you buy fish anywhere, make sure it looks healthy, it eats at the store and quarantine it for a minimum of 4 weeks. read more

This is the best fish store in Houston. Very clean environment and a huge selection of fish. The staff is very knowledgeable about their fish. They will help you find the ideal fish and/or perfect tank mate for your fish. I purchased 2 jardini arowanas from here. I still cant believe the low price. I searched online and other petshops but nothing came close to fishland's price. The same goes for the rest of his fish. Amazing price. The fish from this store are very healthy. Ever since I moved to Katy and not as close to my other go to aquarium shop to buy all my supplies and livestock. (won't list the name) msg me if you like to know. I have read through a few reviews and thought I give it a go. First impression driving up to this location the outside and Plaza look super run down. As for the actual product and service inside this place is and will be my next new go to place. The Asian guy that helped me out was very knowledgeable about setting reefs and tanks up. I'm a rookie when it comes to this new hobby. I have purchased all the necessary supplies such as live sand and regular sand also live rocks. This place has one of the cheapest live rock by the pound I've seen!! 4.99 for the regular live rock and 5.99 purple dye live rock. Tons of rocks to choose from. As for the livestock selection there's tons and the pricing is cheap/fair. Cheapest I've seen for my favorite porcupine puffer fish.! I must also give props to the owner he was quite helpful as well. This Local Fish Store (LFS) has the best, most reasonable prices in town. It is not glamorous by a long shot, but the lackluster is made up by the great customer service experience. There is a wide variety of salt water fish, ranging from damsels to rare wild caught fish. The fresh water fish selection is similar, having again, a wide variety from where to choose. Whether you are looking for African cichlids or New World cichlids, community or brackish, shrimp or crayfish, there is always the right fish ready to be taken home. Their stock is constantly changing due to selling the fish fast. Meaning, if they did not have the right fish at the time of your visit, It is worth making the trip to the store at least twice a month to check out their new inventory As a customer, you will like coming to this LFS. Staff knows about the fish they sell and are always readily available to answer any questions you may have regarding how compatable and tank mates to your existing fish. They really do have the best prices in town; fish that are normally found at the chain stores and other LFS are usually half price, if not less, at Fish Land. Fish look great and healthy and in the rare instance that a dead fish is found in a tank, I have seen the owner (older Asian gentleman) take it out, unlike other paces where the bodies decompose and can potentially harm the fish. Additionally, they have a large selection of aquariums, stands, canopies and supplies. Most are decently priced, especially 100 gallon and up tanks. They also carry replacement parts for most kind of filtration systems (and some even cheaper than online prices!) I am extremely satisfied with my experiences and with the fish I have bought here. The store may not have all the bells and whistles similar to other "showcase" fish stores in Houston. However, the product they sell and their customer service, is as exemplary as it can get and you will leave the store satisfied and with the confidence your fish and yourself have made the right decision. read more

Good price on fish and supplies. I have bought lots of freshwater fish and products from this store but i wouldn't say it's the best store out there. However, it does have fish that you won't find at petco, PetSmart, or other pet stores. Recently, I was having issues finding cardinal tetras for my tank. Other stores told me they did not have them at the moment due to the weather. This PLACE is not an easy place to shop for LIVESTOCK of fish, I've had (in just this February 2021 year), my livestock had the ("ICH "), virus from this particular location, and I've (numerous), encounter problems with all the fish that I've gotten from FISHLAND, I just gotten fed up with it and looked elsewhere for fish, found many other places to get EXCELLENT livestock and great prices as well., my last visit was an unfortunate occasion, I've picked up a fancy goldfish from this location and we didn't go anywhere but home and by the time we gotten home the fish was floating upside down , so I put it in the quarantine tank and it was ok for 9hr, and I've got a video at the bottom of this....., I showed the store owner and he's insisted that I "PAY", half the price for a new fish, oooooh yeah I'm red faced and very temperatures up, it's not even 24hrs, that I brought him with a video and saying that the fish is not in the greatest shape and he just laughed and said I have many other fish to choose from and I give you at HALF THE PRICE, , again, my boiling point is overwhelming for me, so please if you purchase ANY FISH FROM THIS PLACE, make sure it's not having ICH/VELVET/, and DEFINITELY NOT IN A TANK THAT HAS NO DEAD FISH IN SAME TANK, that is really REALLY IMPORTANT!!!!!, I wouldn't recommend anybody to purchase any fish from this place!!!!!!!!!! read more

I am giving this a low review because everything I buys here dies. I bought 4 fish this past Tuesday and by today, Saturday, there have all died. The n fact nothing I have bought here in the last two months is alive. It is not my tank that is the problem because I have fish I have bought elsewhere that have been alive for over a year. I asked the owner if there was a guarantee on livestock. He said there was no guarantee but would give you 50% off a replacement fish if you provided a picture of the dead one. I was looking for a 75 gallon tank and stand set and theirs was by far the least expensive in the area. The employees took the time to ask what I was looking for and have a conversation with me. I would NOT recommend this place. I had a huge cichlid tank years ago so I have good knowledge about fish. My daughter purchased a beta fish elsewhere and recently it's been sick. From what I can tell it has swim bladder and pine coning. It was getting worse so I took the fish, in a small container, to Fishland to get advise. The person in charge told me to not waste my money and just let the fish die! He said that the medication would cost more than just buying a new Beta. I told him that I didn't have the heart to just do nothing. He said that they have about 20 fish die daily so it's easy for him. After pressing him for a treatment, he finally recommended something. Why would someone work in a fish store if they don't care about fish? Also, without asking me, he took my small container and dipped it on one of their tanks to add more water! So if my fish has something contagious, he just contaminated their tank! I won't be returning there. read more

I'm revising my review. I'm still pretty upset to have lost a $35 Spotted Adonis Pleco and a Balloon Ram. BUT, and this is weird, it turns out the large Clown Loach was merely an excellent hider. We replaced our Marineland HOB filter with a Fluval canister this past weekend. And I guess the big guy was somehow using the HOB to hide, because he turned up! We looked and looked and looked for that fish. We haven't caught a single sight of him for a month. And there he is. So, we lost two, not three, of the four fish we purchased, within two weeks. I'm tentatively giving another star and am willing to give them another shot next time we're in town. read more

Revising my review of Fish Land now. I still really like the place, but last week they sold us a snowflake eel and said it would be fine in our fresh water tank. After bringing it home (it was totally freaked out), I did a lot of research online and found that only as young are they ok in fresh water, but that they actually prefer brackish water, and as adults, they head out to the open sea and live in SALT water. Since I don't want to be the reason this beautiful creature dies, I am going to take the eel back tomorrow and tell them to STOP telling people that they live in fresh water just fine. Ok for aquarium supplies. Will never buy livestock from this place again. I've had no problem putting any livestock in my aquarium from any place except for EVERYTHING that I have bought from fish land. Their fish clearly aren't healthy. I've had better luck with fish from petco. Bought three fish from here last week. Lost them all within a couple of days. They have no warranty on their livestock (for obvious reasons), and will not take their fish back. This is the only lfs that I have visited in Houston that will not give you a warranty on livestock or at least take it back, not even for store credit. Again, shop here for all your other aquarium needs. I personally will never buy livestock from here again. read more

Went to fish land last Monday and got my guppies! This place is great, wide selection of freshwater to salt water fishes. What I liked bout this place is that they got tiny shrimps! They are so cute and color varies too. The prices are also cheaper compared to other places like PetSmart or Petco. The store is a lil bit dirty but it's decent considering the type of business. They only have 2 people to assist you so you need to get their attention. Lol read more
