For a few months, developed what many would probably consider an unhealthy addiction to their fish and chips. They even travel pretty well, especially if you order the fish extra crispy. The tartar sauce and wasabi aioli are particularly tasty. I also enjoy their poke rice cake and poke tacos. The poke bowl is good and fresh, but the topping options are very limited. We tried several items including poke rice cake, fish and chips, shrimp and chips, mushroom fries, and a fish taco. Fried fish and shrimp is over breaded and a bit doughy. Fish district is my Go To place for a quick lunch and catching up with my colleagues. They do offer very fresh poke bowls which I'm a huge fan of. I also tried their taco and it was simply one of the tastiest one ever. These guys work hard and work fast so your wait time is almost nonexistent. Located a couple of miles away from the Flower Fields and Legoland is the Fish District. The Fish District is a small, casual restaurant, or is it a bar? They serve fish and also serve beer on tap, in bottles, and wine. They have everything for a nice meal. You go in and order and pay at the counter. We ordered a fish and chip, poke, fried calamari, and a child's chicken finger with sweet potato fries. The restaurant was crowded when we arrived. We ended up sitting at the bar. They started cooking as soon as we ordered. Within 10 minutes everything was done. The Poke came out first. It consisted of ahi tuna with onions, and green onions in their special sauce. They also served it with chips on the side. I thought the poke was tasteless. It tasted a lot better after I added some salt, and their Sriracha sauce. One of the servers did ask me about it. He told me that it was a new dish that they recently started serving. The fish and chips came with 3 large pieces of cod. The fish was perfectly seasoned, battered, and fried. They have 3 different types of sauces for your fish. We chose the Sriracha sauce and their Dill Sauce. It was different from regular tartar sauce in a good way. The calamari was really a calamari steak. My daughter likes eating squid legs. None to be found. But, it was okay, because the calamari steak was delicious. She liked it. We all liked it. Again, their sauces went well with the food. The child's chicken finger and sweet potato came with 3 large chicken fingers. My daughter only had one. She liked the calamari more. My wife and I ended up eating the rest of the chicken fingers. This was a good child's meal. The sweet potato fries were good. They were fried just right, and were very sweet. So I had me an itch... There's something about cloudy, rainy, wet weather that makes me crave Fish & Chips. I remembered seeing Fish District during my last shopping trip to Stater Brothers and, thanks to the gods of Yelp, I was able to quickly find their menu on my smartphone and study their ratings/tips/comments. The "Crispy Ahi Poke Tacos" were da freaking bomb! It was made from an excellent cut of fish, deliciously seasoned, not overly salty or oily, and served on a fresh bed of shredded greens. I thought I was back on my beloved Kauai after taking the first bite! Kale salads can be hit or miss and Fish District's was direct penetration into my Foodie heart! The kale was minutely chopped (yes, this can be a tough green to swallow if it's too big, ahem) and NO STEMS, yay! It was toppled with delicate shavings of green apple, Parmesan cheese, and brilliantly paired with yummy chopped pecans. I could eat this salad every week, and, you know what? I WILL because it's a healthy and tasty pairing of Super Duper foods!!! As for the Fish & Chips, they were PERFECTION personified! The fries were hot, crispy, and tantalizingly seasoned. The fish was moist, hearty, and not overly battered. They seriously were probably the very BEST Fish & Chips I've tasted in North San Diego. Why? Because coming from a fish monger family makes me a total seafood snob and Ive slapped people for serving me bad French Fries (just kidding about the slapping part, well, then again...). Really, we don't need an ocean view or have someone with a mustache to bring an entree we can't pronounce and charge us double for it right? Come here instead! Got the scallop and shrimp melt with fries when we were here. It was cheesy, creamy and came with an herb aioli sauce / hot sauce. After being contacted by the owner and encouraged to give this place another try, we went back tonight. We went with his recommendations and also some other yelpers recommendations. Here's a breakdown of our order: 1. Blackened ahi teriyaki rice bowl- my husband really enjoyed this. I had a piece of the ahi and it was good. 2. Had a fish hankering.... heard about this place and wow, was I surprised at how good it is. Angela had the salmon and kale dish, which I definitely will get next time. It was a smallish piece of salmon but very tasty and the kale was tender and well cooked. Ok, so I only discovered Fish District post-Covid 19, so I've never actually been *in* the restaurant. I know nothing about their service, ambiance, or anything else. I just know about their food and lemme tell ya - it's delicious. My favorite is the salmon and kale bowl (with avocado). It's fresh, amazing, and I feel like it's at least somewhat healthy! I've also had their swordfish, seaweed salad, and a few other things - all amazing (though once the swordfish was a bit overcooked, but that was just once out of many times ordering from them). The 1st thing I noticed while walking up is wow, this place is really tiny. It's one of those casual order at the register/find your own seat places. The girl at the counter was very sweet and helpful. I had a lot of questions and she was patient. The 2nd thing I noticed is, the food comes out very slow. Though when I came to eat in, they really skimp on the tuna and I had more rice than anything. Maybe they just offer a bit more tuna when you do take out and skimp you on the tuna when you eat in and take up space in their establishment? It's a fairly small restaurant with seating probably for no more than 25 or so and there is some outdoor seating available too. Seems that alot of locals do take out here so that is an option if seating is limited. On to the food! We shared the clam chowder first and boy was that a treat. Thick, creamy, lots of clams. I would totally order this again and highly recommend it. We also shared the Salmon poke appetizer. It's served with Tortilla chips. Because we had my aunt with us who can't tolerate anything spicy- we just got the regular which kind of lacked in flavor. Next time we will order spicy for sure. I had the fish and chips and while it was good I felt the batter was too thick and it needed salt or more seasoning. The portions are small but when paired up with all the fries, appetizer, and a small soup, getting a 2 piece is fine. My hubby had their Tuna melt with fries and thought it was one of the best sandwiches he has ever had. I removed 1 star only because of the lack of seating and heavy batter and lack idle seasoning on the fish. First time ordering from this restaurant. Although they had an outdoor eating area, we opted to get take out instead. We called in our order based on the menu that was posted on google because they didn't have a menu on their direct website for this location. I was quoted 15 minutes till it'll be ready. The restaurant has in a little shopping center so we walked to the market while waiting for our food. We got our food quickly when we came in to pick it up. When we brought the food home, I noticed that our po boy sandwich was missing it's side of fries. Luckily this meal was filling. The fried shrimps were bigger than I expected it to be. Visiting San Diego, my family stopped in and took dinner to go. The Ahi Tuna Poke bowl is $8 for a regular and $10 for a large. The customization is limited to: classic, spicy, and wasabi. I opted for the spicy, my mother the wasabi. We both enjoyed our bowls, the amount of fish was nearly double what I'm accustomed to. Wrap includes tortilla with lettuce, black beans and rice or quinoa with your choice of sauce and it comes with chips and salsa. Plate includes your choice of two sides and your choice of sauce. (Their sides include coleslaw, rice, brown rice, quinoa, french fries, sweet potato fries, sauteed vegetables, spring mix salad and roasted cauliflower. Get a nice, warm bowl of soup. Hot summer day? How about poke? Want something greasy? Try the fish and chips. Working on a New Year diet? Try a salad or a bowl. Personal favorites are the tuna melt and the crispy rice poke. I love a hot, cheesy sandwich, and I appreciate that you can get a half so you can easily combine it with something a little healthier like a salad. The crispy rice poke is sold as an appetizer, but it's definitely a meal for me. Bottom Line: Hook, line and sinker, I am still as much of a fan of Fish District today as when they opened in Carlsbad nearly two years ago. The quality of the food at Fish District has remained high and the seafood is always fresh. Everything on this menu is tasty and by now, I think I've tried most of it. Their homemade sauces make a tasty dish amazing and its fun to experiment with the sauce line up. I also like that they have about ten local beers on tap. Another thing I like about the restaurant is the décor although they do not have too many seats. Fish District is located in the busy Bressi Village shopping center. With that being said, I avoid Fish District around weekday lunch times but I welcome the opportunity to cruise over here for dinner. This restaurant has been consistently good since they first opened in Bressi Ranch several years ago. I haven't had too many items from their menu but what i have ordered has been so good! My favorite is the Poke Ahí Bowl. It's freshly made and just so good and filling! It comes in two sizes. I've also had their fish & chips plate a few times (also my teens' favorite). The fish is perfectly fried, flaky and flavorful. Oh and let me not forget the fried calamari! I've had some awful, overdone calamari in my lifetime, but here it's pretty good. (On one of my visits I was told by a customer that they have a pretty authentic (and delicious) Shrimp Po'Boy. I'll be trying that next time.) Tried this place today with a friend and have to say I like it a lot. Small place with friendly employees. Order at the counter then find a seat. They have a Catch of the day menu on the wall as well as their other offerings on the menu. I had the Salmon plate with battered fries. Salmon was cooked perfectly and the fries were delicious. So crispy but nice and fluffy inside. I had the Ginger/Teriyaki sauce to go with the salmon. It was tasty but my complaint is that it is a very thin sauce not like a glaze. I think that would of made it a 5 star review. Prices were a little high but not too bad for Bressi Ranch. Oh they have some really good local beers on tap as well.
