Fish Bone was as spontaneous find hidden in Fitztrovia. The staff is super friendly and the food is delish. We stopped inside later in the evening before closing and they still had a great selection. The woman who took our orders was extremely friendly and kind to answer our questions. The fish was cooked very well and breaded perfectly. The side dishes was a perfect add to the fish and chips. A friend had recommended Fish Bone and I'm glad I went (2 years ago)! I still remember the FISH very well... the lightest "tempura" I've ever had. And like Dennis, I wasn't too crazy about the chips, but the fish totally makes up for it! I'd love to go again during lunch. We went near closing time, but the waiter was super friendly. British people seem to love fried fish on Friday. Does it hail back to the Catholic days of yore before some King decided to create his own religion to get a divorce? Who knows? What I do know is that the old place I worked would always have fish on Fridays, and while it was subsidized and cheap, it was also pretty terrible. So to continue the tradition at our new place of work, I found Fish Bone for fried fish Friday. We stopped in at around 12:30 and managed to get a table for five people. Now be warned, it's gets SUPER busy at lunch. After sitting there about 15 more minutes the place was fully packed and there was a queue out the door for the takeaway orders. So is it worth it? I say yes. They do a small cod portion (which is nice for lunch, because who wants to eat a giant piece of fish for lunch) and if you get it with chips, it's about £7. (I think it's £6 if you get it to go.) We also split some orders of mushy peas because they give you a nice bowlful of them. The fish is really nicely prepared with a light batter coating it. I really enjoyed the chips as well, but the two Brits in the group weren't overly impressed with them. Maybe it's a British thing. The rest of us really enjoyed everything. We'll probably come back again for fish Fridays. I mean it's not ridiculously expensive for lunch and while it's not as cheap as the food at my old job, it's about ten times as good, so the extra money is totally worth it. read more

The reviews guided us here and I'm just backing them up. Skate wasn't in so I took the haddock. Diane had salad and sides. We both came away happy. As usual, I was completely turned around and we wound up walking the wrong way afterward, winding up at Oxford Circus. So yes, a little off the beaten track, but this is London - the side streets are more crowded than most cities' downtowns. However you find your way there, you'll be glad you did! read more

Not my first choice in London for a cosy pub with fishnchips and a beer. I'm curious how it was in the past without liquor. Now the food is more expensive. My entree was the tender fish -plaice, which was destroyed by the clumpy batter. Order cod for fish and chips and you'll be more than satisfied. It's just so-so. I went for dinner take-out. I wanted some fish and chips to take back to my room. The fish had been sitting under heat lamps for a while, so it really wasn't very crispy and it was kind of stale by the time I got to it. The chips were pretty soggy. I like mine with a little crispy exterior on them. The thing that really bothered me was the fact that they sell condiments for takeaway. The prices overall are very reasonable, so I guess selling condiments is one way they can make up for it. But it still bothers me that you have to pay extra for a cup of ketchup. I'll wager that this little restaurant is much better for lunch. But as a dinner option, visit one of the local pubs you'll be much happier. read more

Fish Bone is a local fish and chip shop. It has had some good reviews so I thought I would give it a try. I went at 6pm and the cod was already cooked so it was a little cold. The chips were pre-cooked and cold. I think the fryer could have provided food which was hot and fresh. However, the mushy peas were lovely. I suggest you eat at this fish and chip shop afer 7pm so that you get freshly cooked hot food. read more

My experience at Fish Bone was great. As a lover of fish and all things fish, I was happy to find my London office was just a block from here. The dining room and counter were immaculate. The staff was friendly. Great value for what I paid, fresh and flavorful! I could, however, kick myself for not asking for some tartar sauce! The large cod is "LARGE" so the small will be for me next time. And tartar! There's a 20 minute wait if you want your fish grilled, but the tempura breading is light and flaky and frankly, amazing. There is a £10 minimum when paying with a card. read more

I came here to show some American visitors what British Fish & Chips tasted like. We arrived in an empty restaurant and our order got taken quickly however it was then a 20 minute wait for our food! During this wait about 15 take-away customers were served. Not really acceptable in a small place like this. The chips tasted really good and the fish was a good large portion, although one of my colleagues didn't like the plain batter on his. I ordered some bread to go with my chips which they forgot, then when it was brought out the top slice was dry, like it had been out on the counter all day. Granted I'm still very new to London, but this place has fantastic fish and chips. Actually, I take that back - the fish was fantastic, but the chips were kind of mediocre. Still, the giant, perfectly-crispy-without-being-greasy fish was more than enough to make up for the lackluster chips. This is our second visit to London and I'm so glad we found Fish Bone so close to where we are staying in the Fitzrovia area. We just found the best, most reasonably priced and least pretentious fish and chips place in London. Portions are on the huge side. I was not able to finish eating a "regular" size portion of cod and chips, and this is after walking around the London Zoo all day and having nothing to eat, but a black coffee that morning. It still tastes good the next day! The fish was fresh and the batter was amazing. Nice and crisp. You can sit and eat either inside or outside (weather permitting) or get take away. We have a 10 month old and a 3 year old, since it was getting to be their bedtime it was nice to have the take away option. It doesn't get much more authentically British than this fish and chips place. Service was fast and friendly. Best fish and chips in London. We'll be back! read more

The small cod itself was a a very decent size and the regular was even bigger. My fiance and I ordered the sticky toffee cake with custard and a side of vanilla bean ice cream. For my money, probably the best chippie in town. It's a tiny place so if you're hoping to eat in, rather than take away, you may well end up sharing a table with local Fitzrovia workers - but to my mind that's an added bonus. The fish is fresh (try the melt-in-your mouth cod), the batter delectable, the chips are cut to a decent size and the mushy peas are, well, mushy (as opposed to soggy). Has taken a while to get my food each time, but that's only because they do not fry the fish until you've ordered it. Walked 15 mins to get to Fishbone after the positive reviews and I wasn't disappointed. A great chippy. Away from the busy main streets, it felt like I was in stepping into some authentic London.
