The Lyic is located just off Piccadilly Circus. I have visited twice on this trip to London. First we ate Sunday roast which included a lovely beef roast, cheesy cauliflower, potatoes, parsnips and carrots. It was delicious. The service was great and I enjoyed their beer selection as well. Be sure to look to the ceiling if you visit. It has beer labels of all the types of beer they have served in this establishment. Quite entertaining! read more

We went there as a family. My sister and I got the dirty French fries and they were super good. I also got squash (it was a cherry-flavored soda drink). My mom got fish and chips my dad got a pie of the day (steak) he got a beer that was super good apparently. the service was also great. The most memorable and best times are usually those you don't plan on having. Exactly that kind of time is what we enjoyed at this establishment. We needed somewhere to eat and a warm place to duck into. We found this small, unassuming pub in a back alley ready to accommodate those needs. On the first floor is the quintessential pub with a few standing tables, booths, and a large bar area. Upstairs is a more intimate slightly small dinning area with a cozy fireplace. The wait and kitchen staff are very kind. First, we were the only dinners upstairs and the waiter came and lit the fireplace just for us, no request necessary. Both staff accommodated my son who is a very picky eater. When I say they both accommodated him I mean the waitress helped tailor his want, and the chef came out to our table to ask if there was anything else he could do to spice up the dish to my son's liking. Great people! The food was delicious! The fish and chips were huge, even the chips were as thick as the fish. The kitchen prepared my son's hamburger perfectly. After living in Spain for so long we forgot what it was like to have a fully cooked hamburger and all the ketchup you could eat (it's the small things in life you know). After we were done with our meal, we wanted to rest and play uno awhile as a family, and the staff kindly obliged. Overall, this was a delicious place filled with great staff that took care of us both physically and emotionally. If you're from out of town and need a pub fix, in my opinion, there's no place better than The Lyric. Enjoy! read more

Great pub, not a ton of these neighborhood, corner type pubs left in the west end. Good selection of craft beer - maybe a bit IPA heavy for my taste, but better than just traditional macro brews. One TV in the back corner with a surprising amount of room for being such a small space, didn't venture upstairs but there's also seating upstairs. I'd go back, nice pub and a good change from the west end bars. read more

We stopped in for dinner on our way to a show (Avenue Q, I was disappointed, but I think I am too conservative for the Muppets getting it on) and were happy to have what seemed like authentic pub food and friendly service. I had the thai chicken pie with mash, very tasty, and a nice cider on tap (didn't find out the name, I'm just a fan of cider over beer). We ate downstairs in the bar after seeing that the upstairs dining room was empty, but even though there was a nice little crowd we were attended to nicely by the bar staff, which I have discovered is not always the case in Europe. I would recommend to anyone looking for a casual place to eat before one of the many shows in the Piccadilly Circus area! read more

The Lyric is a charming, well-kept little pub that's really close to Piccadilly Circus tube. Appropriately named and themed in honour of the alleged thespian crowd that is drawn to the surrounding area, The Lyric has a nice, warm feel to it. Food wise they offer the best of British and it looks a great place to tuck into something really home grown like bangers and mash or a Yorkshire pudding. It immediately struck as a place that would appeal to the local British market than the foreigner, given its location just inside Soho. It's got that really cool 'pub up a dodgy alleyway' feel to it which must only become more coherent as the sun sets. If it's more of a family thing you're looking for, you could make use of their full dining room upstairs. read more

My mates and I were fuckin around in the tourist-friendly Piccadilly Circus area and got hungs so we saw this spot. Not flashy and not cheese-y from the exterior. Really authentic but tiny bar downstairs and a small dining area upstairs. Perfect pints of cask ales and steak n ale pies. The waitress was quick and helpful. The bartender was affable and witty. This place gets crazy on Friday nights. There's an absurd amount of craft beers on draught, but many are unlabeled so you have to chat up the bartender and see what they've got available. We sat upstairs in the small dining room, which was great for a meal and conversation, but terrible for beers since our waitress didn't know about any of the beers they had downstairs! The basement is a men's bathroom which is more like a giant toilet carved into the wall and ground (no way someone should miss the mark here, but I bet it still happens). At ground level there is a happening pub. Upstairs is a quaint dining area with a small fire place and just a few tables where they serve delicious classic English pub grub. Can you guess where we spent most of our time? We opted for the dining area because, well, we were hungry more than anything else. We did order some good beers however, and along with those we also partook of the fish 'n chips and the chicken and bacon pie & mash with peas and gravy. The Lyric is a wonderful pub to head out to if you've got a dinner planned in the west end or soho. Casual, friendly, lively without being obnoxious and a good selection of snacks. Great beer selection, but some significant cons to this place. 1.) Bloody over-priced, even for the area. £11.60 for two pints? Ridiculous! 2.) Chap poured the wrong pint, and though he corrected his error, he didn't look happy about it. Nor would I, to be fair, if I had to pour £5.60 down the drain. 3.) They gave me a wierd No. Ireland fiver that no one else would accept (chap's comment at the next pub was "what is this, Euros?"). 4.) Full of loud estate-agent types, but that's typical for the area. In sum, great beer, but you're going to pay through the nose for it and endure some grief besides. Is it worth it? You'll have to decide for yourself. read more

Please note this review is just about the pub, not the restaurant and that I visited on a sunny school night! I think it gets busier at the weekends. Searching for a pub venue to meet some friend in the Soho area and seeing the Lyric as ranking the highest amongst it's counterparts, i felt that this had to be the venue we tried. And you Yelpers are completely right - this is a smashing little venue. Great real ales, fantastic ciders, a generally great selection of drinks... A lovely clean, airy (although the venue is tiny), but earthly, homely feel to the venue and friendly staff. It feels like a little old man pub, with all that character, but where you are welcome and with wonderful friendly punters. Thanks for the recommendation guys, this is by far the best pub I have been to in the area and it's on my list of firm favourites. Also a good spot if you want some wifi access - and as the meeting i had was to plan a couple of things, and not as social as i would have liked, this was essential. It was also helpful that we could get a table fairly easily as most people were standing outside as it was a fabulous day. I'll have to return and go to the upstairs bar for some food, i saw some plates going past and regretting having eaten before. read more

Amazing little pub in the SoHo area of Central London. My hubby and I had literally just landed in London and dropped off our stuff and started wandering... We happened upon The Lyric and couldn't have been luckier. Ambiance is classic English Pub.... Not too flashy, but lots of space to sit and nice bartenders/servers. We were exhausted and starving from walking around, so we settled here... I had the fish & chips (i mean... obvi, right?) and my hubby had the pulled pork sandwich with spicy slaw. The fish and chips came with a side of delicious tartar sauce and peas! Did I mention it was piping hot... As in, I was so hungry I took a bite and nearly burned my face off.... But in a good way! LOL. The batter was nice and light and the fish was very flaky. My hubby's pork sandwich was pretty good, but not anything to come back for... I really liked the beer selection. Even though the bar is pretty small, they offer a lot of varieties of good stuff... The bartenders are also really helpful when you're a jet-laggeed American that can barely speak due to exhaustion... LOL. He set me up with a beer that was light and crisp. Even though this is a very small pub, it's got plenty of character. :) Also, anyone who is a beer drinker, The Lyric has loyalty cards so for every pint you buy, they stamp the card. After 9 pints - you get 1 free. Some of my friends have loads of cards stacked up and we go almost every thursday to keep topping up the stamps. Their fish finger sandwich is the BEST I've had... I liked The Lyric. It was busy, had a good atmosphere and was just a good old fashioned London pub. The bar area was decorated in old beer mats which was quite cool. And it seemed fairly reasonably priced too, 3 drinks were around £15 - standard for London. I'd come back again! read more
