This is where you take someone when you are trying to impress them. Or if you are the great gatsby. The venue itself is hiding several opulent rooms, from a cute French brasserie as you go in to the theatre inspired bars and restaurants downstairs. It's like a French world of wonder and it's also hiding this American bar inside it. Bar-ception... Right so Bar Americain is the sort of bar you give your name at the door, then they sit you at the bar and then they take you to your table, all in an orderly and efficient manner. Then you can select your cocktail which will be priced at at least £10 and will also come with popcorn on the side. You know the place is posh when you get free snacks... The staff are very polite as expected and the atmosphere is quite pleasant. The majority of clients seemed to be there on dates so I guess many people have the right idea. The cocktails we tried were really nice, felt high quality and luxurious. I think it's a great place to go to for a drink, probably too expensive for a full night out but if you're celebrating something or want to treat yourself it's an awesome choice.

Just follow the sign :)

I love this place! Just walk in past the upstairs bar and through the corridor downstairs until you see a sign for Bar Américain, follow it and marvel at the Art Deco style decorations while your at it. The bar is absolutely beautiful with dark wooden tables, velvet curtains and soft lighting - everything you could ask for in a 20's prohibition style cocktail bar. Not only is the place quite magical in it's mood and appearance, the bartenders are incredibly skilful and you can probably get one of the best Martinis in London from here. I suggest you try their cocktail menu. My favourite is the Whiskey Sour. The drinks are not cheap, but they are well worth it and it's truly a pleasure to watch them being made. If you want to try something cool, ask for the famous James Bond's Martini, they do it just perfect - shaken not stirred of course ;) They even give cocktail lessons at the bar and those are a brilliant experience!

Old fashioned; sweet but slips down a treat.

I've walked past this place so many times and written it off as just another food place for the tourists... ... But then a friend of mine who is part of my monthly Sunday club recommended it as a great place for deco interiors and cocktails; two things I love dearly. Tonight, Sunday, I walked in and down, loving the posters on the walls, and into the bar. The servers were busy so I easily located a table and checked out the menu. I always start with an Old Fashioned, it's how I assess a place. It was sweet and with buttery caramel tones. Eminently drinkable. Once my friends had joined me they were served quickly, and as the rounds progressed we were given some complimentary popcorn. The Chrysler cocktail- now that was so good I had three in a row. That's very rare for me. I recommend keeping the fruit in until it's finished - delicious! The service was very good- efficient, discrete and not annoying with constant check backs that 'everything is ok'. It's not the cheapest cocktail place in London but it is classy and off the beaten track- and I will definitely be returning.

Beautiful place. The drinks were well made (albeit pricey). The bartenders definitely know their craft and the bar is well stocked with liquor. They serve popcorn as well. Keep in mind though that this isn't the kind of place you go into expecting the typical pub scene. This is definitely more highlife. I'll go back for sure.

Black and gold heaven. Loved the Art Deco style and desperately wanted to take it all home with me, the glasses, the menus, the napkins... I was worried that being slightly hidden away it could feel pretentious or unwelcoming but it wasn't at all. It walks the line of fancy but relaxed and the style is retro without becoming gimmicky. This place is classic at its finest, a brilliant place for a sophisticated cocktail in a stylish setting. I can strongly recommend the house French aperitif, delicious!

When asked about allergies, we disclosed a shellfish allergy, and a server came to talk about how they could accommodate we had ordered chips, and they offered to change the oil as it may have been used with shellfish. We ordered chips (fries) with Parmesan & beef fat mayo, a cheese platter, the strawberries dessert with two glasses of brut and cappuccinos. The cheese platter was tasty, nothing out of this world, but definitely a good cheese platter with onion preserves, four different cheeses, candied walnuts, dried fig and yummy crackers. The chips were very tasty, and the dessert was fabulous. The dessert tray had fresh strawberries, delicious butter cookies, meringue pieces and dips that included chocolate ganache, chantilly creme, lemon curd, and a pink chocolate. We all agreed that the pink chocolate wasn't very good and the strawberries were tasty but certainly not the best we've ever had. The portions are meant to be shared, and we all left not needing anything else to eat. The whole experience was very fun and indulgent. One thing Harrods needs to work on it making sure employees know that this lounge is actually in the store. We asked several employees and nobody knew there even was a champagne lounge. FYI it's on the 4th floor.

You can book reservations via Open Table. I ordered the Perrier-Jouet Blanc de Blancs NV but Harrods was out and they where not expecting shipment for a few weeks (in mid-December.) The noise (piano player and guests) in the Tea Rooms next door, overpowers the music in the Champagne Terrace. Then, the manager (an older gentleman) chewed the waitress/hostess out in Italian in front of the guests which was inappropriate and unprofessional. She had been lovely and did not deserve to be treated so disrespectfully. The food menu is nice and was delivered quickly. The chocolate and sea salt caramel tart is fabulous. The food that I ordered was fresh and well-prepared. I felt, however, the entire experience was way-overpriced for what you received. It was nice, however, to sit in the sun and get away from the hustle and bustle of a crowded Harrods store but the ambience isn't soothing and relaxing. www.harrods.com

So naturally . . . we went. A local friend of mine made reservations for us, and since they allow underage guests before 5:00pm, we grabbed an early one and checked it out. And honestly . . . it didn't disappoint. The venue was beautiful, the drinks were delicious, and the vibe was exactly right. It's one of those places where you immediately know it would be even more fun later at night, so I already know I'll have to come back on a future trip . . . preferably without teenagers. Bonus points for the fact that they had cigars on the menu and an outdoor balcony, which immediately got my attention as a cigar aficionado. It was too cold and rainy for me to really enjoy that part of it this time, but next visit I'm definitely planning to indulge. Would absolutely go back.

They definitely know how to serve. My first drink I didn't love as it was sweet. They gladly made me another. Which was much better. They have us some bar snacks and we throughly enjoyed our early evening drink here. Want a fancy place ? This is it!!
