I have been eating here for years. My visit yesterday was horrible. I ordered 15 piece catfish meal with fries. I got fish but it was definitely not catfish. the food was also cooked in oil that was old and you could tell that it needed to be changed. The best thing about the meal was the hushpuppies and you only got six of those. I spent almost $30 on this meal and I was very disappointed. I hate to say it but this was my last visit. This is a fantastic, casual, little eatery serving tasty, well-prepared food. We decided to try Fish & Chicks because of a Groupon deal, which we usually don't have great experiences with. However, this was hands-down my favorite one ever. Its located in a strip center and has giant decals on the window, but don't let those deter you! The interior has Americana-style decor and is immaculately clean. The digital menu boards, as well as the screen with the daily specials, is a great touch. You order at the counter, which was fast and friendly, and then they bring it out to you. Everything is cooked to order and then they bring it out to your table. We started with a 2-piece order of chicken egg rolls and 4-piece chicken dumplings (they come fried). They were average, but not bad. For entrees we ordered grilled shrimp tacos on corn tortillas with red beans and rice ($7), chicken tender po-boy with fries ($7), the 3-meat fried platter with chicken, catfish, shrimp and fries ($12) and a catfish kids meal that came with fries, garlic bread and a drink ($6). I LOVED the shrimp tacos. Usually when I order shrimp tacos from other casual restaurants the shrimp are minuscule, sparse and not deveined. So I was thrilled to see plentiful, decent sized shrimp that were actually cleaned! They were perfectly cooked and dressed with lettuce, tomatoes and a spicy aioli. Simply delicious. The red beans and rice were also good, but needed a bit more kick (but I like spicy food), and went well with the tacos. The chicken po-boy was enormous with two huge strips and was dressed well with fresh veggies. The fried catfish and shrimp went over well too with a crisp batter and not overly seasoned. The catfish that came with our kids meal was a bit overcooked, fortunately the tartar sauce was really good too. Being able to feed a family of 4, with leftovers, was an amazing value for $40. I find it very satisfying to finally found the place for the best fried fish. Time after time, I would get fried fish where it's too breaded. It's flaky and fish was cook right. This was perfect. Tried this place for lunch! Had the shrimp platter with hush puppies and added 2 shrimp balls. Everything was hot and fresh the shrimp balls and hush puppies were crunchy and flavorful. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars were that the shrimp had an off texture like they had been boiled before being fried so they were slightly tough, it wasn't bad but def a little strange. I stumbled upon this hidden gem when browsing on Groupon looking for the nearest food places with deals. Upon my entering I noticed the outside window advertised their everyday deals. Immediately entering Mike, the owner, greeted me and my coworker and was very nice during the whole entire visit. Now on to the best part....the food. I ordered the catfish special that came with a side (I chose red beans and rice) and I can honestly say that it is the best red beans and rice that I've ever had. All of the food is seasoned well and is consistent each time I order. Not to mention the food is extremely affordable! I can honestly say that I will definitely keep coming back. Stopped in with my buddies for lunch. We got an assortment of the bone in wings, crab balls, fries, onion WI gs and the combo fried rice. The wings were perfectly cooked and meaty. We had all four sauces and found each to be unique and very tasty. None are very hot, but all are very flavorful. The crab balls are huge and tasty. Served hot and crunchy with a nice such for dipping. The fries arrived hot and perfectly cooked with a good crunch and no soggy fries. The onion rings are home made and are are excellent. The restaurant is clean and the service is very friendly. The only possible downside is they don't serve beer, but you can probably bring your own. You'll need to check. I have had three unique experiences with Fish & Chicks. The first time I blew it off, but on the today it was a little hard to use that same mindset. My issue with Fish & Chicks is how the food is delivered to individuals eating in and those with takeouts selectively. Today, at 2:15 pm, the establishment was not busy, three customers total; one eating in, two (including me) with take out. As orders were completed they were delivered to the other customers and when my order was ready, I was called to the counter to retrieve my order. While I try not to look at situations like this from an ethnic standpoint, it is hard not too as this is not a one-off. My order was more expensive than the individual's take-out before me, so I cannot put it on economics. Perhaps it is just best that I move my business somewhere else, where service is provided to everyone in a fair and equitable manner. If the owner would like to discuss this review, I am happy to hold that discussion. read more

My only nitpick was that the boiled shrimp wasn't peeled/deveined (I wish I had asked). Food wise The chicken was pretty good. Reminds me of the chicken my mother fries at home which is delicious. The catfish... Idk this is only the 2nd time I've tried catfish so all I can say is I wasn't a fan of this one. They have super delicious hush puppies and house made tartar sauce, and my friend had the crab balls which he said were delicious. Oh, also we tried the gumbo and it was really good but it has a kick to it (gotta love them spices) The tilapia is okay. It was so hot that it was pretty much pasty inside. The batter they use reminds me of a southern/Cajun style corn meal batter, it's pretty good but not great. Oh! & The shrimps are pretty big and really delicious. On the other hand, the onion rings, I wouldn't bother with them. They are big onion rings deep fried but they leave the skin on the onion so it gives it a "different" taste. Had to dip it in tartar sauce to get it down. Overall experience/ambiance I'd say it was great, 5 stars to the service aspect.
