This was my first visit to First Watch Matthews and it was amazing. I had the avocado toast with million dollar bacon and a mint iced coffee. Everything was delicious. My server West was fantastic. A great place, I would highly recommend and I will be returning on my next visit to the area. read more

Went here today for the first time. We called ahead when we were 20 minutes away and asked about a wait for a party of 2, and were informed that if we downloaded the restaurant's app we could add ourselves to an online waitlist, which we did. We got to the restaurant and only had to wait about 3-4 minutes since we had been on the list. We had excellent service and the restaurant is super cute on the inside. My food, the farm stand tacos and potatoes, were amazing!! My boyfriend got the pancake, summer bacon special, and plain grits, and he nor I were impressed with the bacon or grits. Grits were very watery and had no flavor and the bacon was absolutely drenched in a thick sugary sauce. The bacon had great flavor but sauce should've been drizzled on not soaking. Overall good experience, would come back! read more

I really enjoy the quality of the food and the service at this location. It is absolutely worth the wait on the weekends. I only wish there was more outdoor eating space once the weather gets nicer. read more

I never leave reviews for restaurants but I was so unhappy about my experience. It took 10 minutes for a waitress to even come to our table but they sure passed by a lot. I was so excited to try this place. So finally we order. I ordered the turkey sausage and gravy with biscuits. Omg. It looked and smelled like someone threw up on my plate. I could barely eat it. Please if you go here do not order this. However the coffee was great! read more

This was my first time at First Watch! We had Emilee as our server and she was so kind and helpful! She made an excellent recommendation of a breakfast quesadilla which was amazing! I will definitely be back! read more

The food was amazing and the environment was calm. My server Jewels was amazing and provided all the service we needed. The service was a bit slow but it was worth the wait. I will return!!! read more

Emilee was great server! Very attentive and friendly. Food was also great. We will definitely be back again.

Emilee is the best server ever! We have been here multiple times and been lucky enough to have her twice now. She is very efficient and kind. We always get our food in a timely manner and it's always so tasty. Hire more workers like her! read more

Food and service were both excellent. Briana was our server and was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed.

Emilee was great! She did a fantastic job taking care of us! She was very personable and charismatic!

Great place for breakfast, brunch, and lunch! Tons of healthy options, as well as the go-to comfort foods. Some of the business highlights: staff is super friendly, they leave a carafe of coffee on your table, they have a daily juice option Downsides: can have an enormous wait during busy times However, they do have a hightop communal table when you first walk in that is first come, first served, so you may be able to sneak a seat without the wait. This is a restaurant I'll be going back to again and again! read more

Father's Day First Watch scam... My first time at a First Watch restaurant - my wife goes all the time and said it was great (she goes to the Waverly one) and wanted to take me for Father's Day. I could talk about the fact we used their app and still waited 30 minutes for a seat or the fact the table next to us, who sat down 10 minutes after us, got their food before us (we waited 30 minutes for our food after waiting 15 minutes for a server to even say hello)... but the bigger issue was the portions. My wife's "Humonogous pancake" - as described in the menu - was the exact same size as my son's kiddie size pancake. The two scrambled eggs my daughter ordered barely filled up a quarter of a saucer plate. My wife asked the waitress why the portions were so small (at Waverly the pancake fills up the plate) and the waitress said that they had also noticed and asked the kitchen why they were making everything smaller today and there was no answer. We called the manager over and he first told me "there are two eggs there" so I showed him the scrambled eggs, compared to my two eggs over easy that I ordered and pointed out that they were 50% larger than the scrambled eggs. He insisted there were two eggs there and I said I was not happy spending $4 for 1 and 1/2 eggs... We then showed him the adult pancake compared to the kiddie pancake and at least he didn't argue this one; all he said was "Would you like a larger pancake?" Yes, we would like an adult size pancake that we ordered and paid for. Overall the food was average, but the fact they intentionally downsized the food on Father's Day means I will never go back. read more

I have been completely addicted to this place ever since it opened Down on Matthews Township Parkway. It took over the space after Fuddruckers closed down. I noticed a lot of hype surrounding the opening. After I popped in to check it out, I completely understand why. This restaurant has some of the best breakfast I have ever had anywhere. The food is super fresh, super delicious, and always perfectly filling. I am on a mission to completely eat my way through their menu. Let's start with the decor. The restaurant has a really great rustic vibe. I feel like I am at a restaurant that is literally on a farm. The tables are nice and have their logo embedded into the table. There is free coffee in the waiting area which seems to go over really well. You should know that there is a community table right in front that is first come first serve. I normally use Waitlist so that I don't have much of a wait, but I also use that community table from time to time. The food here is incredible. Farm sourced ingredients come across in every dish. Everything is done fresh every morning. The french toast batter, the sliced fruit, and fresh squeezed juices from the juice bar are all reasons to frequent this spot. The eggs are cage free, the proteins are great quality and there are some really great healthy options. They make the healthy stuff easy to figure out by literally giving them their own section on the menu. Avocado Toast, A.M. Superfoods Bowl, Power wraps are just a few of "The Healthier Side" menu options. I am personally a huge fan of the Chickichanga, (Whipped eggs with all natural white meat chicken, chorizo sausage, green chilies, Cheddar and Monterey Jack, onions and avocado rolled in a flour tortilla. Topped with Vera Cruz sauce and sour cream. Served with fresh fruit and a side of seasoned potatoes). I typically try whatever special they have. Normally its some type of hash, but things switch up seasonally. Follow their social media, they do a great job of marketing and informing of upcoming seasonal specials. I have yet to have one that I didn't completely fall in love with though. The french toast is magnificent. It's a thick cut brioche dipped in a custard batter and topped with whipped butter and powdered cinnamon sugar. I'm also a huge fan of the Hot Chocolate. I get it every time I'm there. Oh yeah, they may have the best chocolate chip pancakes in the city. I am truly a huge fan of this place. read more

The ambiance is beautiful and the food looks delicious. I was excited to try First Watch in Matthews for the first time. When my boyfriend and I first walked in on a Sunday afternoon, we agreed that we'd wait if the wait time was under an hour - we understand, it's a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon so the wait will most definitely be awhile. When we arrived, we walked in and stepped in front of the hostess podium where a older white man had his head down doing something. We stood there for about 30 seconds to a minute without acknowledgement, no greeting, no "hello, give me a few seconds and i'll be right with you" instead, the man looked up and said nothing. I broke the silence by asking, "how long would your wait for two be" and he nonchalantly replied "45 minutes." We we're displeased with our first impression that we said no thank you and walked out. If we were greeted upon arrival or just acknowledged that we were standing there, we would've loved to wait and try their delicious looking food. Maybe some other day. read more

We had anneliese as our waitress and she was phenomenal! She made the dining experience very pleasant on our first trip here. She was right on time with refills for everyone in my party and was very friendly and out going. We did have to wait about 40 minutes for a table, but the wait was worth it for the good food. I would definitely recommend the million dollar bacon- sweet, savory, and spicy! (A perfect mix). I got the farmhouse hash with bacon avocado, seasoned potatoes, sun dried tomatoes, and eggs and it was delicious. The food took a long time to come out (about 30+ minutes) but they were obviously very busy so we weren't too upset by it. If you go, ask for Anneliese she will take great care of you!! Nothing better than great service with a smile :) we will be back for sure!! Thanks Anneliese! read more

Service is lacking, the food is good. I've been here twice now and both times the service has been lacking. While everyone is very friendly, the service has been extremely slow for us. They really need to hire more waitresses I think. Today, every glass on our table was dirty - both water glasses and coffee cups. The waitress had to go back and told us she hand washed them herself. Truthfully our waitress was great but just probably too many tables. You can use the First watch app to get in line which is nice. The food has been good for us. I generally get a pancake. It's huge - as big as a dinner plate. Lots of choices like blueberry, chocolate chip, banana/granola. Omelettes are good. It's a solid breakfast/brunch spot but be prepared for slow service. read more

Visitsed for Sunday breakfast. First time to visit this location. We usually go to Providence farms location. We ordered market hash and salmon Mediterranean toast. Market hash is always good as like we tried in providence location. The salmon toast was seasonal and it was just okay. I didn't like the way they cooked eggs as they were too undercooked. Now I can guess why I can't see it on the seasonal menu anymore lol I like their juice bars, not only healthy but also tasty. Tried kale tonic this time and very refreshing taste. The service and food was okay, not so impressive. The overall experience is 3 stars and a half! read more

I don't frequent Matthews, definitely not in the morning. I purposely planned a breakfast meeting at first Watch because I had heard such amazing reviews. Even on a weekday morning, they were thriving with chatter and the smell of tasty eats. I personally did not have much of an appetite on this day but the oatmeal I ordered was fulfilling, fresh, and by far the best oatmeal I have had at a restaurant. Looking forward to adding First Watch to my "friends in-town list". The environment is great and the staff was extremely friendly. read more

First Watch has been consistently good with every location I go to. This is my first time at this location and my first time at a First Watch in NC. Everything from the food to the service was amazing. Came here on a Saturday morning for breakfast and even though it was pretty busy the wait was only 20-30 min and it was completely worth the wait. The coffee in the waiting area was nice too especially with it being cold outside. I ordered the biscuits and turkey sausage gravy it came with a side of eggs and seasoned potatoes and came out pretty quickly too even though it was a busy morning for them. Overall amazing experience, every time, I can't wait to continue to go and try new locations as well. read more

Just left after hearing loud clear voices coming out of the kitchen and then seeing kitchen staff not wearing masks.

We ate here this morning and was not disappointed. I had the lemon and blueberry quinoa pancakes (sounds weird doesn't it) and it was amazing. It is served with warm syrup and some flavored butter. I absolutely loved it. My fiancé had some eggs Benedict dish and she liked hers as well. We split some flavored bacon that I could have eating for days. I was slightly concerned with health score only bring 90.0, but everything seemed fine to me. Service was good and I liked they leave a carafe of coffee at your table. We will be back. read more

Me and my boyfriend went here Sunday after church for brunch. We were sat at 1pm and waited a bit for our server. It was busy so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Soon she came and took our order probably around 1:15. We then watched as the table next to us (who was seated after us) got their food and left before we even received the food. We were patient but finally at 2:20 we decided to say something and ask where our food was. The server seemed confused and wasn't sure what had happened. We asked for our ticket for just the drinks but the server apologized and told us we were fine and to just leave. I believe the kitchen was the issue and not our server. However the drinks and the coffee were very good. (Hence why I'm leaving two stars and not one) I'm sure the food would have been good if the service had been better and we were able to stay. read more

Love the food, but unfortunately for months now they do not take online orders on their website for whatever reason which is very inconvenient. It's almost like they disabled it. And it is almost impossible to get them to answer the phone at this location to take my to go order since I cannot order online. This place would get a lot more business if online ordering worked and the employees picked up the phone. read more

I aways enjoy going to First Watch with the hubz... its one of our Saturday favorites!

We've eaten here prob 3 times in a last couple of years. This last visit will be our last unfortunately. Obviously with staffing shortages everywhere wait times have been longer. This time we ordered at 10am and food came out at 10:55, waitress was non existent, just satnding by the kitchen most of the time. The kicker was all food was cold as well as my wifes plate came 10 min after the other plates. She ordered a waffle, scrambled eggs and a chicken patty, the least difficult to make. The restaurant wasn't even that crowded compared to other visits. Terrible experience overall, I always tip 20% or more but left 10% for the 1st time in years. read more

Not a very happy customer. Wanted to run and grab breakfast before my wife had to go to work at 9:00. Posted hours online and at the physical address say that the restaurant opens at 7 am. I got to the place at 6:55 just to be sure. It is now 7:30, and I am still standing here. I see people walking around inside, some looking at phones, but no one has opened the door yet. When I lived in Florida I used to come here a lot. Since I moved to Charlotte I missed this great brunch spot. When I found out they built a first watch in Matthews I was excited but also nervous because I wasn't sure if it would be up to the standard of the one in Florida and thought I would be disappointed. But I was wrong! This place surpassed my expectations! It was better than I remembered. Like Publix stepped up their game when they moved up from FL to the NC so did First Watch. My favorite is always the chicken salad melt but I decided to try something new this visit. I got the hash skillet and it was great! I am glad I tried something new here because I realized they have so many great options. I can't wait to come back here! No negatives with first watch! I highly recommend. read more
