The food was outstanding! We will absolutely be back for the elevated egg sandwich and roast beef sandwich! Our experience was a little awkward because the waitress kept touching us - in a very friendly, warm way. But in a pandemic and 6 mos pregnant, it did feel unnecessary and uninvited. We enjoyed our breakfast here; you can't really go wrong with the Farmhouse Hash, which is eggs over potatoes, bacon, avocado, tomato, and onion. I wish the avocados were a little riper and the omelette cooked slightly softer/ fluffier. My server was very good as well. read more

I love First Watch for breakfast! Ive gone a couple times and the wait is doable. I learned you can check in through their app and see how long the wait time is. You can even add your name to the wait list and just show up ~10 minutes prior. Service is always outstanding - everyone is very nice. I always get the farmhouse skillet and it is delish! It comes with their toast and jam as well. If your an OJ person, the OJ is definitely recommended. When paying they have $2 off from pocket point or $2 off survey at the register which take ~5 mins. First Watch was the first place I went to breakfast when I toured KU. Since then it is always a solid place to go back to. Somehow they always have perfectly ripe avocados to go with each meal. I have tried the Scram-bowls, eggs benedict, and lemon recotta pancakes. I always feel full and satisfied with my serving and the quality of food. The service is also always wonderful and starts when you walk in the door until you leave. They have remodeled on the inside. read more

I have to be in the mood for breakfast food and I'm quite particular about my omelettes. I was highly impressed with the egg white omelette here, which surprised me because they don't have jalapeños to add to omelettes, which is a problem for me because I usually have to have jalapeños and pick with eggs. But they did have green chiles that were a nice substitute for an extra charge. The breakfast potatoes are good too. My only issue is that we called and they told us they had no wait. We got there in a few minutes and there was a long wait. Quite a contradiction to what we were told on the phone. It's like they falsified the wait time to force us to give them our business. Another issue is, this place is primarily a breakfast restaurant. In this case, the quality and selections of their coffee need to be top notch. The coffee is mediocre at best. read more

There is an African-American manager that works there. I have been going there for over a decade. There was free coffee sitting out and I asked if I could get a free coffee. He came off as very abrasive and told me like I was an employee that I could sit down at a table and he could order me a coffee. It was very rude and racist of him to say something like that to me after I had been a client for over a decade eating there. Absolute poor management and discriminatory things were said to me and I felt He was very unapologetic when I told him that what he said was in since year and so then he blocked my number. I love this place and try and go every week. But the take out service sucks! I have to check and open the containers of my salad every single time. Why do they always forget the avocados and bread stick on the honey pecan dijon salad. Then a few weekends ago I visited the one in Olathe and oh my God! It was a world of difference. I've been here 3-4 times now and each time other than the first it hasn't been my decision or choice. For that reason I'm less than enthusiastic. The food and service is just OK, sometimes sub-par on the food. The coffee is truck-stop grade and to top it all off, they're really proud of their prices. The bar for breakfast in Lawrence is as low right now as its ever been in the past 30 years and First Watch is right in the mix of it all competing for mediocrity. Where are you o Paradise Cafe? Those of us that remember will never be the same. Yesterday's breakfast, $5+ for a small bowl of oatmeal with a few dried cranberries and maybe a fourth of a banana. Side English muffin. It was just OK, wasn't really warmed to proper temperature. Wife had a hash dish ($9+) with plenty of potatoes that carried the flavoring of too many other things cooked in that same oil or pan or possibly a grill not properly cleaned. Unpleasant lingering taste. Probably the best thing going is the pot of coffee they bring to the table which saves them a lot of service grief. $ $20 before tip for the two of us. Still, some people seem to dig it as the restaurant was half full at 9:30 a.m. so what do I know? I just know it's not anything special. I'd been to a First Watch in St. Louis before and had an okay experience there, so either my standards have changed or the one in Lawrence is just worse. There are some bonuses to First Watch. It has a large interior (kind of reminiscent of a Denney's though...old school chain restaurant with high-chair tables stacked everywhere for kiddies) and caters well to groups. When you order a cup of coffee they give you a whole pot (for us caffeine-addicted souls out there), and it's really not bad coffee. Service here was friendly and expedient, though they did seem to want to usher us out quickly because of the large wait, which was irritating. Menu selection was large but I'd expect no less from a place like this. They serve standard breakfast fare - omelets, waffles, french toast, biscuits and gravy. I had the Floridian French Toast (sourdough with wheat germ, topped with berries); though it was huge it was a pretty underwhelming plate of food. The bread was dry, unflavorful, and they gave me a side of watery and artificial blueberry sauce that grossed me out. Their "maple syrup" is probably some equivalent of Aunt Jemima's High Fructose Corn Syrup With Food Coloring. Given the quality of the food, I'd say prices are on the high end, ranging from about $7-10 for each item. But, I suppose this is what I get for going to a chain store. read more

I ended up eating here for a lunch business meeting and it was perfect for that. It was quiet and we were able to sit at a large table out of the way. Service was attentive, and the menu was large. I ordered the BLT with Egg, but substituted the Egg for Avocado. It was alright. It came with fruit and some potatoes that weren't so good. Someone else in our party had the burger, which was dry and flavorless. The salads were HUGE and the omelet looked okay. I've never been a huge First Watch fan, but I've never hated it. This location fits that perfectly - it's fine. I was here with a large group at lunch, and it was mostly dead aside from us. Orders were done efficiently, all of them came out right, and they came out pretty quickly considering how we slammed the kitchen all at once. I was impressed. The food was, as I mentioned, fine. I had a Tri-Fecta, which came with one monstrous pancake (I had pecan), two eggs any style (I chose over easy), and bacon/sausage. The pancake itself had tons of pecans, but was overall "meh" in flavor. The sausage, a single link, was good.
