After three or four consecutive poor experiences a year ago, I took a long break. I've been going back regularly over the past two months. I do think things have improved dramatically. Super delicious! Super busy spot. I only waited about 15-20 minutes for myself. They text you when the table is ready. Waiter was nice and gave me an entire pot of coffee and got me some oat milk at no additional cost. I ordered a Tex mex inspired bowl that had tortilla chips, black beans, cut avocado, pork, eggs and salsa. It was so flavorful and filling. Won't put you asleep and will keep you energized for the rest of the day. I thought I got a fresh meal at a good value. Highly recommend the spot. read more

This place looks a lot different than when I came here as a kid, but for the better! Super inviting and warm atmosphere. Variety of table seating which I like. Service was prompt and friendly. I like the menu choices, simple to unique. I have a thing when I leave my house to eat breakfast I don't want something I'd make at home. So i appreciate a diverse menu. Portions were great and prices were reasonable. I really liked that they leave a coffee carafe and water with you. I think that makes for such a relaxing vibe for both the patrons and staff. Food presentation was nice as well. I would forgo the greens next time (although tasty) and swap them for potatoes because my husband's potatoes were delicious! Went here for brunch on Sunday morning. It was busy but we didn't wait long for our party of 10. Using the app to join the wait list ahead of time helps for sure. Ahhhhh! I remember the first time I ever saw First Watch, I definitely didn't think that it was a restaurant let alone one of the BEST if not the best breakfast cafes in Lawrence, Kansas. This spot has it going on to the fresh pressed juices to start I always get the Morning Meditation which contains Orange, Lemon, Turmeric, Ginger, and Agave nectar.....I let my server know and she brought out a free sample of the Kale Tonic which contains kale (of course), fuji apple, cucumber and lemon and I might have a new favorite. As pictured I ordered a blueberry pancake, eggs scrambled with cheese, grits (plain) and fresh seasoned potatoes! First things first, I started with grits because usually they are the worst thing I get at restaurants! I grew up with them being made to perfection and it seemed as though most resturants just didn't know how to make them since the grits either turned out too runny or too thick. I will say the yellow grits here are the bomb.com. I like to eat my grits with butter and a little sugar and honestly I didn't even need sugar, THEY WERE THAT GOOD! Next I went onto my eggs because it's pretty difficult to mess something so easy up. They were cooked perfectly not little pieces of scramble, you could even tell they are real because of the white spots from the egg white (which is completely fine btw!) Now let me say this; I am a potato connoisseur and they hit the nail right on head with their breakfast potatoes. They taste like they are baked for awhile with onions and then lightly pan seared before serving. I am not sure about the recipe and procedure but I am sure they are the BEST breakfast potatoes I have ever eaten in Lawrence and once I get all of my reviews up you will be able to see I've been around the block a couple times. Last but certainly not least the Blueberry pancake! Same type of pancake I got last time, same light and fluffy texture, bigger than my head and hands put together, fresh blueberries, and comes to you still steaming from the griddle. My server was Kaylee and she was great! Answered every question I had and accommodated every request I could think of lol. I think I remember her from the Big Biscuit and if so you have definitely upgraded to a great place. Both of the times I walked in the front I was greeted immediately and sat the same way (had reservations the first time). I have watched all of the hostesses, servers, and cooks work hard to make sure the business runs well and being a server myself they all go above and beyond their job description to ensure customer satisfaction. This is definitely a place I can bring my mom and feel confident that she will be comfortable and enjoy great food and coffee! read more

First watch is an excellent Kansas City local chain that has spread further across the country. This location in Lawrence Kansas is fantastic. It's one of my favorites. The staff is friendly and helpful. The juices at the juice bar are fantastic. [I recommend the purple haze] and they have many food options that work with my food allergies. I am allergic to fish, nuts and pork and they have turkey sausage biscuits and gravy that are to die for. Highly recommend stopping for breakfast all day or a delicious sandwich. read more

I am visiting a friend who lives in Lawrence and goes to KU so my friend and her husband wanted to take me here for breakfast. I ordered the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. I was a little nervous about eating seafood in the Midwest but my friends reassured me that I'd be fine. The eggs were cooked perfectly and runny as I poked my fork through them. The salmon was also fresh and tasted great. The salad on the side didn't do much for me and I thought wasn't necessary but overall, the dish was good. My daughter had the farmhouse skillet hash. The Benedict was fantastic! Eggs were perfect and everything complimented the dish and made sense why it was there. The portion size was excellent. The overall feel of the restaurant was welcoming even though the AC was up too high for my freezing teenage companion. Zero complaints. Rise and shine! First Watch used to be my Go-To breakfast and brunch place. Cannot count the number of times I've been to this restaurant and it's always been good. Over the years, though, I ventured out to other places to try their food. The lines at First Watch are terribly long on the weekends and that was a deterrent for me, as well. Is it fantastic? No, not by any means. But it is good and satisfying. Portion sizes are huge. There is always plenty of food. It is hot, flavorful and you will leave feeling full. This is a nice place to take in a slow morning, reading the paper over a cup of morning coffee. And you will never have a plateful of grease leftover after your meal, either. The staff has consistently been friendly, nice and patient. They are not pushy and are trained well. The kitchen is in the open so you can see what is going on Behind the scenes. It adds a very personal touch to the restaurant, too. I've never had any trouble with my food or service at First Watch. Eating here has always been a pleasant experience. Ill start by saying I have a high standard for breakfast/brunch. It is my favorite meal of the day! Coffee, mimosas, bacon, eggs, and so much more. I came to this restaurant knowing that it was a chain, and was there more for the company than the food, which they had along with coffee, a staff, and seats. Anyhow, my date ordered the avocado toast with 2 medium eggs and i had the original breakfast with eggs, potatoes, and bacon (I subbed maple bacon for regular bacon). The avocado toast was not half-bad, not great, but not too shabby. I would probably order that next time. My eggs and potatoes were pretty good (hard to screw up) and the bacon was a little funky. I have had maple bacon before but this seemed to be a little too sweet and something else, like they tried to hard. The coffee was pretty awful, and the service was A-okay. So i give it 3 stars knowing I could eat the avocado toast again. read more

I would highly suggest using the wait list app on yelp and reserving your spot to avoid that wait. The food is freshly made and the menu has a good variety.
