We asked the server on way in, what's good here....chicken fried steak is the best he said He wasn't kidding. 1/2 lb of crunching well seasoned juicy and thick/meaty goodness. We're impressed. Also saw the 3 car pileup on the menu. 3 of everything. Massive. Just had to get it. It was good, and it resisted any attempts to make a dent in it. Futilely. Holy cow so so good!! This place has a little of everything for breakfast from pancakes to their famous biscuits and gravy, you can't go wrong. I will just get a little bit of both when I get! Haha! Sometimes the wait staff can be interesting. They may forget you are there or sometimes they are just rude. But that's only happened a couple of times and I have been there more than a handful of times. My family always looks forward to the Big Biscuit when they come in to town! It is almost always a "breakfast after church" spot! Sometimes it can get super busy and crowded, but if you want one of the best biscuits in your life this is the place! read more

I really like this Big Biscuit location, and frequently eat here specifically because the wait time is usually low, the staff is friendly, the food is consistently good, and the atmosphere is a little quieter than other places on the east side. The only criticism I have is that checking in using the Yelp app does plot synch with the Yelp iPad they have. You have to go to up to the hostess to indicate your party is there, which kinda defeats the purpose of checking in with Yelp. read more

This breakfast spot is super yummy and convenient for an early breakfast. They open at 6:30 which is when we arrived and there was hardly anyone there which equaled quick service. I can't say anything about how service would be when they are busy but when we were there the waitress was quick to help us and was very polite and friendly. The biscuits and gravy were so delicious. The place looks a little outdated but has some cool lighted signs inside that made the inside really cool. This is one of the only breakfast places in Lawrence KS but according to a friend we were visiting it is the best breakfast place in the area. read more

Superb biscuits and gravy. This is one of my favorite breakfast dishes. The plate arrived with a huge biscuit, generous quantity of gravy, and very well prepared eggs. The biscuit was the right consistency with a balance of soft inside and crisp outside. Other disappointing biscuits have been tough and stale, but the freshness of the biscuit was evident from first to last bite. The gravy was the right consistency and the peppery goodness brought back good childhood memories. I highly recommend that you go with an appetite - big portions for moderate cost! read more

Went there today and was told there was no wait list because there wasn't any waiting...while me and 20 other people were waiting in line. The hostess then proceeded to tell another gentleman that there was at least a 20 minute wait. I know everyone has an off day, but for an employee to tell everyone that they don't know what is going on...that doesn't look good. read more

This is always our go-to breakfast place in town. I had the veggie omelette without tomatoes, because tomatoes are gross. We were just about to pay for the drinks and leave when the food actually came to the table. The ambience of the place has a nice hometown feel to it, but the turnaround time on meals was entirely too long. I wanted to try some more things out of the pastry case, but because of the long wait, I had to get back on my way. If I ever did stop back by, I'd have the French toast again, but I definitely tried some of the other things in the pastry case that looked rather delicious.

There is no school going on at KU as commencement was the previous week. There were only six cars in the hotel garage. We have never been treated so rudely by a hotel's front desk personnel. I also asked when the room might be available and was told 4:00. She made no effort to look anything up or accommodate us in any way. Very disappointing.

The filling was delicious but the pastry was NOT light or flaky like a traditional empanada. It was very heavy and bread like. I didn't finish that. I also ordered some desserts to take home. We got two slices of cake, some macarons, and a lemon tart. The cakes were delicious. The lemon tart was not good. It was very runny and sour but not in a good lemony way. The flavor was just very weird. We didn't finish that either. For the most part it was a good but expensive experience. I'd go back but change some things.
