So glad we chose to stay here while in Lawrence! The staff was great and the room was spacious and comfortable. There is a restaurant on the main floor and they offer great room service as well. The room was really clean, and the bed was mostly comfortable. I really liked that there was a way to adjust the room temperature and two TVs. The hotel itself is neat to look at with a lot of history

I was here for a holiday work party and we ordered appetizers. The five cheese Fonduta dip came out first and it was hot and super cheesy. The wings came out next and they were a great size and very moist! We also ordered a few sides of French fries and I love the beer batter. My co-worker ordered the lobster Mac n cheese. It's a good portion for the price, so don't let the price veer you away. She said it was jam packed with lobster and the cheese sauce is extremely rich. We finished up with with a skillet sundae which was a warm chocolate chip cookie in a hot cast iron skillet, with a chocolate drizzle and scoop of chocolate ice cream. We also ordered the creme brûlée it was perfect with the crunch on top with a creamy filling. I am glad we were able to have a good time and our server was very flexible accommodating everyone with drinks and appetizers.

OK it's really important that you read the reviews they are confusing the restaurant from the hotel. This hotel provides plenty of upgrades that separate them from most properties! I travel a lot so I have to give this place five stars for going above and beyond. As far as designed I would give it first floor lobby bathrooms are 5 stars. Everything is glamorous, yet classy with a modern twist to traditional look. Now the room are extremely spacious but the design hasn't been updated so I would say 3 stars. Now the items in the room are 5 stars. Number one favorite thing was the beds. I'm in love with those pillows I need them in my life. They're true King size full, soft and firm at the same time. Completely in love with those pillows. Mattress was very comfortable. Bedding was clean and soft. Bathroom amenities included shampoo and conditioner that were gentle and I had Great results on my hair. The lotion was so moisturizing and light. The make up mirror was a great touch. Every day I got two bottled waters which was well needed. Q-tips and cotton pads for makeup removal were also a great touch. The towels like the bedding was definitely an upgrade because they were soft, large and Beautiful. Everything in the room was upgraded, there was plenty of outlets with USB outlets provided making it easy to charge phones. Service was excellent, room was cleaned daily. Hotel is located right in the heart of the town across the street from plenty of wonderful restaurants. I stayed here for five days so much to do so many wonderful places to eat. Felt very safe for evening jogs. Parking is an issue. As far as the hotel being haunted I did not experience any paranormal activities, lol. I was in room 505 and apparently 506 is supposed to be haunted, thankfully there's enough space between those walls that any supernatural activities stayed out of my room.

Getting 1 star only because you have too! Words can't begin to describe the disappointment and frustration with our dinner. Our son and girlfriend had been here in the past, and wanted to take us out for a nice dinner. Sadly, it was anything but! My only hope is that it was just a one bad night on their part. It started by waiting 15 minutes just to get our drinks, by minute 45 we finally received our starters. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts Chips and the Pretzel charcuterie board. I would rate them "ok"! The Brussel Sprout chips had more raisins than the Brussel sprouts themselves, and the pretzel charcuterie board had odd combinations of sausage, 1 slice of prosciutto, and 1 slice of ham. The cheese sauce to dip your pretzel in tasted like a cheese sauce from a jar. At minute 70....(yes, you read that right) our waiter came to tell us that there was some "printer problems in the kitchen and the orders all got lost". Now mind you there were 3 tables around us, that came after us, but still received their food. Another 30 minutes goes by, which by now we have been there for over 2 hours and we're just getting our food. By now, we're over this and just ready to leave. The manager came over when our food arrived and tried to explain the situation of what happened on the kitchen.....but no "I'm sorry for what took place". He would take off the price of the starters for us though, which we said keep the main course and we'll just pay for our starters. He did do the right thing and boxed up our food to take home, but to top it off when we opened our food at home it was missing side items. The picture below is of the chicken Marsala, which ended up being a bland/dry chicken breast with a few mushrooms on top, there was not 1 ounce of Marsala sauce. It was supposed to come with mashed potatoes and asparagus, but I guess it was easier to throw in bland broccoli. We didn't even touch the stuffed chicken as it looked like it still needed to be cooked. Again, I hope this was just a 1 night thing, but for now, I would say stay away!

Ah. History. I love it and I love it even more when I can stay at a beautiful, old hotel that is so rich in history such as The Eldridge. On both of my recent business trips, I stayed here and I found the staff to be welcoming and helpful, the rooms to be large and well appointed and the food to be quite tasty. There is even free wi fi which was greatly appreciated (makes me nuts when some hotels still charge for this) I did laugh when I checked in and the front desk clerk was like the "Price is Right" host asking me if I wanted the room that had been arranged for me, or if I wanted Room 506, which I guess is the hottest room at the hotel given it is purported to be haunted. Given I had a business meeting the next day, I opted for the room without nocturnal spirits but it was tempting! Turns out, the story is that the original hotel was destroyed years ago, but when it was re built, the original cornerstone is in Room 506 and is supposedly is the "portal " for which the ghosts enter and exit the building. Don't know if I am a believer but it's pretty good folklore! My rooms were both corner rooms with a separate seating area, large comfortable bed and since they faced the main street, there is even a little "white noise" machine you can use to block the street noise. On my visits there didn't appear to be any or maybe I'm used to the noise of Chicago, but no need to use the sleep machines in my mind. If I had a wish, it would be that there was a coffee machine in the room. Oh sure, you can wander down to the lobby and get a cup of Starbucks free just by the front desk but I would rather have it in my room as I hate getting dressed to go and find some coffee. The other challenge for me was that the light in the bathroom was behind me rather than in front of me. Tough for putting makeup on but I was able to rectify it by opening the blinds and using the mirror in the main room. Small things but for a business traveler really critical. The hotel has valet ($10, I must be in Kansas!) and if you don't see him when you pull in, just lock your car and leave it. You can give your keys to the front desk person who will find him. All in all a great place to stay, reasonably priced, close to everything Lawrence has to offer!

We arrived on the farm (after our Ford GPS took us a wonky route along a few miles of dirt road--so make sure you stay on paved roads and you won't have trouble--I was told by Kristin, our host and one of the owners, that Google Maps has no problem). I have to share our experience in detail because I feel we discovered a new must-visit experience in the KC area! We arrived at the 30-acre farm, parked in the field, and were greeted by our server who welcomed us warmly and offered us an arrival cocktail to sip while we explored the truly lovely grounds, pond, and nearby goats. After our leisurely stroll, we returned to the dining pavilion and found our seats at the gorgeous (and massive!) live-edge dining table along with a menu specifically for this weekend. Our gracious host Kristen and server brought out our first drink pairing, a minted lime seltzer that was refreshing and light. Our first course arrived--Blue Jade cornbread with arugula, sweet pea salad, and chicken liver paté. The cornbread was unlike any I had before and was absolutely delicious. The sweet pea salad was literally bursting with flavor the peas were so fresh and the chicken liver paté out of this world. Such an interesting flavor profile and combination. The next beverage pairing arrived a short time later as we enjoyed the perfect evening, a blackberry purple basil shrub. This drink was also delicious and refreshing (and save that blackberry for last--what a treat!). The Mangalista pig, we were told, is the "wagyu of pork" and the crisp, tasty, marbled pork chop was excellent. It was served with a beet "kimchi" with fennel root and a sheep cheese dumpling that was creamy and flavorful. Finally, our coffees were served and a dessert of yellow squash cake, lemon honey ice cream with mulberry compote was brought to us. Again, the dish was original, delicious, and a perfect ending to our meal. We can't wait to come back and have try a new menu in the future. Such a perfect evening and the chef has such an exciting vision for hyper-local farm-to-table flavors and dishes.

We interacted with the goats, turkeys, chickens, ducks, pigs, guard dogs and farm cats. Also wildflowers and a well-tended garden. Delightful. Then a farm-to-fork feast with paired cocktails. The agriculturalist and host Kristen is genuine and lovely. We will definitely return. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

That was our thinking when we booked this for our wedding in 2015. This beautiful working farm, although a bit more on the rustic side than some photos would have you believe, really is a place where you can breathe deep, relax and make for a wonderful evening. Being in the event world myself, I was less than thrilled with some of the steps leading up to it when we booked this venue. They are friendly folks, but there was a sense of a vaguery around a lot of things. We had to have every vendor "approved" by them, but the responses were slow. In the wedding planning process, things move so quickly that you better nail down that photographer, caterer, etc. and not have to wait and follow up continuously. Something that bugged me as my stress was H-I-G-H that final week before the wedding was that a big time cold front and high chance of rain were forecasted to move in. With over a week's notice I requested that they go ahead and get the heaters and tents that we'd talked about as our agreed upon contingency plan. No response. Followed up, and by then it was too late to get all that we needed, even though we were still four days out. They had told me 48 hours would be sufficient notice so I was very disappointed. Thank god it didn't rain as forecasted! She also quoted me pretty high on the heat lamps and I grew weary. I called the rental company (Sunflower Rental) myself and found that the total price I was quoted was bumped up to nearly double what they actually charge. So I could've just ordered these myself and saved a lot of money, and there was no explanation for the upcharge except that I called them on it. Now the wedding day was great, they were accommodating to the caterers, they dressed up and were around but not too present, and were just overall great. I chalk it up to the fact that everyone EVER who is in the wedding business realizes the cash grab that it can be and that a few things here and there fell in that category. I think this would probably be the same for a lot of venues, I just wish there had been a bit more transparency from the get go. Also not a fan of the $300 clean up charge, that's bogus. Thankfully as the bride and groom we were not on the hook and our family stepped up to do this. Our wedding was beautiful, and the weather cooperated. It was crisp, they had a bon fire stoked for us, and the historic barn (built in 1887 I think?) and I was thrilled with the way everything worked out.
