Visited for: Takeout juice order I came in to pick up a Kale Tonic for someone with a food allergy -- something I already knew was a safe option. While ordering, the staff member at the counter, Ms. Priscilla, mentioned their seasonal Watermelon Refresher. Out of curiosity, I asked what was in it -- not because I planned to swap anything, but because I was considering ordering both. She listed the ingredients, and once I heard it had freshly squeezed pineapple juice, I knew it wouldn't work for who I was ordering for. But I told her honestly, "That actually sounds like something I'd like." Before I could even ask, she said, "Then this one's on me." And just like that, she went and made it herself. That kind of unprompted kindness? Not something you get every day. It wasn't about the free drink -- it was the way she handled it. Thoughtful, present, and genuinely warm. We both said it made our day. The Watermelon Refresher itself? If you gulp it down, it tastes like chilled, freshly cut watermelon. But if you sip it slowly, the flavors roll in: Watermelon leading, Pineapple floating through gently, And mint showing up just enough to cool the finish. Nothing too sweet, nothing fake. Just clean, refreshing flavor. This one had me set. As for the restaurant -- the New Albany location is bright, clean, and has a calm, cozy feel. It doesn't feel like a chain. The chalkboard menus, fresh juice bar, and friendly staff make it a great daytime spot. I've never been big on breakfast, but this kind of service has me thinking about coming back -- maybe bringing someone who is a fan and grabbing another Refresher... or trying that Spiked Lavender Lemonade I saw on the board. Bottom line: Great service doesn't need to be over-the-top. It just needs to be real. And Ms. Priscilla made sure mine was. Would absolutely return. #SupportGoodService

The Traditional Breakfast

Pretty reasonable food. The pancakes are great and fluffy. The eggs are cooked well. I really love their toast which is just a side of most dishes. The coffee is nothing special. I also love the side of fruit, I can't remember which plate it came with. Service was pretty straightforward except we weren't sure if we were supposed to take it to the front desk to pay or wait for our waitress to pick it up. Then the awkward, "it's gonna ask you for a tip. Is it 20,22 or 25%". I'd prefer to write it myself. Ambiance is okay, nothing special. I've been to other first watch branches and I would say this is one of the nicer ones.

Mimosa (with Cranberry) Mimosa (with orange juice in the back)

Starting off, walked in very impressed by the amount of people and diversity in the establishment. That was refreshing. And it was Black History Month! So the diversity was amazing. Anywho, when we sat down, it took a little while before someone came back to actually greet us. 2 tables were sat after us, and they both were approached first with drinks orders before we were greeted. That rubbed me a bit wrong being that we had been there longer, so how?? But ok. When our waiter came to us after the other 2 tables, her energy and tone changed from how happy and courteous she was with the table right beside ours. The other tables received a "Hey, good morning.. how are you doing.. I'm doing well... well i have a child...." And so on and so forth. When she approached our table, she had gotten very monotone, as if we were interrupting her day. But nonetheless, the hunger was sinking in, so we (myself and my partner) just smiled it off and greeted her with how we expected to be greeted. Her first question to us was "how will you be splitting the bill," as if we were teenagers. It threw us off a bit to my partner said "huh?" She repeated her question "Are you splitting the bill or just one?" And we answered, "Just one." Why is that the question. I listened to her taking the other 2 tables orders, and she never asked that question to anyone else. So of course I was insulted. Moving on, We both ordered water and a mimosa, i also order a black tea(she brought every tea bag but no black tea lol). She asked if we needed more time to order food, which we did, and she said she would be back. When she came back, she came with drinks for our table, sat them down without a word, but went to check on the other 2 tables to ask if they were ready to order. (At that time We were, but were not asked when she brought our drinks). She walked away after taking their order, then came back maybe 5-10mins later to take ours. We kept it simple because at this point, i was pretty irritated with the customer service. We both ordered the Trifecta from the "Classic Favorites". Mine: eggs soft scrambled with onions and turkey sausage links, my partners: eggs over easy with chicken sausage. The neighboring tables received their food maybe 10mins before we did, and that became the conversation at our table. We never took long to figure out what we wanted, the waitress just took long servicing us. She would come over periodically to check on the neighboring tables, smiling, and conversing, but she only checked on us once which was when we were half way done with the food with no smiles and no side conversations. I'm a firm believer of NOT being rude to people that have to handle my food, so we remained courteous and respectful the whole time. My partner expressed that the waiter would give her mean looks or roll her eyes at her when walking from behind me. I can believe it because she acted as if it hurts to smile when she approached our table. Aside from our customer service experience not being the nicest, the food was pretty good, the atmosphere was really nice. All ages and ethnicities were here. Families, friends, couples, grandparents. It was a pleasant sight. As for Briana, we probably won't be back. Im not sure if there was an issue with me and my partner, if it was the fact that we looked young(we're in our 30s, probably the same age as Briana, and both doing very well for ourselves), or if she just didn't know us. I don't know, but she made our visit pretty uncomfortable. I would prefer not to feel unwelcome when going to eat breakfast. Her Customer Service isn't bad to everyone, obviously, but it was definitely bad with us. I suggest the waitress maybe letting their leaders know when they don't feel comfortable serving someone, that way the experience isn't horrible for the customer. (Does it make it ok to pick and choose who they want to serve, no. But it's not ok when the customer is not being treated equally, and slightly disrespected at the same time) Thanks First Watch for the breakfast. And all the best with business.

Chickichanga
Alejandra C.

Visited here on a Monday morning around 11am. I was surprised at how busy it was but our service was great. Very cute and clean place. Food was really good. I order the Chickichanga which was delicious, it was like a crispy breakfast chalupa. The sauce on top brought it all together with the yummy potatoes. The French toast was good too, nothing crazy. Would definitely come back when I'm in town to try their other menu items.

Came here for late breakfast on a Tuesday and we ordered the elevated egg sandwich and the pork green chili hash. Both were quite good. I'm adding the photo of the hash. Good service as usual.

I will say you can't go wrong with first watch! I must say the staff is always nice and friendly. They really get you in and out. This is a nice location to have breakfast or lunch meetings ! I love the morning meditation! The bacon and cheddar pancake is phenomenal!! The farmhouse skillet is amazing!! If you are in the area definitely stop in and get a good hearty breakfast meal!!

Tri-Fecta
Cassandra R.

Grabbed a quick brunch with two friends on a Saturday morning. It was busy but the wait staff did a great job turning over tables and keeping up. Very casual atmosphere makes for a family friendly brunch spot. I got the Trifecta with scrambled eggs, bacon and a blueberry pancake. All were good but not amazing and could have been brought out a little warmer. I've been before and tried the egg sandwich that is great too!

When it's good, it's good, but the quality is highly inconsistent. Sometimes the food looks like reheated mush.

101 Craft Kitchen - Butternut Squash Soup

101 Craft Kitchen

We are so glad 101 Craft Kitchen extended its participation in Restaurant Week for an additional…read moreweek! The food was excellent and so delicious. My husband got the Korean BBQ Scotch Egg (so different but very tasty), BBQ glazed meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes, lemon chilli green beans (he normally doesn't like his vegetables, but he said these were so fresh and tasty), and Espresso Martini Pot De Crème. I had the Italian Wedding Soup (very good but did not have the meatballs), Pasta Bolognese (pasta was cooked perfectly and drained properly, so it did not water down the sauce!), and Apple Pie Mousse. I also got one of their mocktails called Brambleberry Tea. I could have easily drunk a couple of those! I forgot mention that they pour some nicely chilled water from a bottle that they leave on the table when you sit down. That is a nice touch for us since that is our choice of beverage when we eat. We were treated so warmly by everyone from the time we walked in until we left. Our server, Tyler, asked if we had been before (and this was our first time), so he welcomed us and asked if we had any questions. He was attentive during our time and even asked my husband if he needed any more sauce for his meatloaf. Marvin, the manager, stopped by to see how our first experience went and wanted to invite us back by gifting us coupons for an appetizer on our next visit. Thank you! The atmosphere was rustic and casual. I loved the picture frames hanging (used like walls) and lots of exposed bricks. The bathrooms were clean, well-stocked, and warm. We are looking forward to coming back to try the regular menu!

Started with the tots, which were really good, but they weren't loaded, just cheesy and a little sauce on time. We asked for the pork on the side and didn't get it at all. My dad and I ordered brunch- avocado toast for me and the skillet pancake for my dad- and they were both cold. Not warm, mine didn't have any warmth at all. My mom's mac and cheese looked awesome, very warm, and her grilled cheese dip plate was too, and she loved them. I knew I didn't want to eat my meal as-is, and was going to ask them to at least warm it up, but my waitress never came back to check on us for so long that my parents were almost done eating (my dad ate his cold, but ice cold egg was a no-go for me). He had to wave her down to come back to us, and I just decided to not bother and they took it off the bill. She also forgot to refill my coffee, but the manager came over I asked for it from him. He explained that the toppings on the avocado toast make it cold, so I guess be warned. Disappointing visit for sure.

I had just come from PT and was hungry. I did a Yelp search and this is the 1st Pl., Yelp directed…read moreme too, so I gave it a try. I'm glad I did I was probably greeted by the hostess. Whom placed me at a very nice table. I looked over the menu, which had a little something for everybody. To be honest I liked that, plus there wasnt an over abundance of items... it was that goldilocks moment... just right. I decided to try the grape leaves. I asked if they had made them themselves and they did -which is what pushed me in the direction. You get two very stuffed grape leaves --that are definitely made in house. I was not really a fan of the lemon sauce that they use. I didnt dislike it, I felt it was a tad too thick and not enough lemon. However, I seemed to eat all of it, which is something I dont do at most places, so despite it needing more lemon I must of liked it more than I initially realized. As far as ambience, it still has the footprint of the former sushi restaurant. the bar is completely unchanged. however, they have these lovely little lilac flowers or Japanese cherry flowers hanging from trellises throughout the entire back dining room. makes it look lovely. This transforms it into its own identity. i liked it. They had soft music playing. I wasn't sure if it was Mediterranean or Spanish, but I enjoyed it. I liked my time there The one thing that needs mentioned is the pricing of the salad proteins. This is confusing. I was going to order a salad but the menu had it listed the price of a salad. Them below protiens. The price listed on menu is not in addition to salad. Its the final price of the salad. I did not realize that and thus didnt order the salad. I also didn't like being quoted 10.80 for my total and then having it changed because I used American Express to 11 something. Personally, I feel businesses should make it a little easier for their customer in the cost of doing business should be at the restaurants expense in that situation. I probably would've tipped more had they not popped up my price Tbo Would I come back? absolutely. However, I will bring cash the next time so my bill doesnt go up. Lol.

We also had a couple bottles of wine at the table, which were good as well. For appetizers, we shared oysters, meatballs, and shrimp cocktail. All of them were good, but the meatballs were my favorite. For my entrée, I ordered the prime rib. It was a bit saltier than I would have liked, but the sides helped balance it out. I really enjoyed the corn and mashed potatoes, and I also added mushrooms and onions, which helped offset the saltiness. In hindsight, I kind of wish I had ordered the filet mignon, as I suspect it wouldn't have been as salty. The bread at the beginning of the meal was also really good. Dessert was a standout--I got the turtle cake, and it was huge. It's definitely the best value on the menu. Three of us shared it and still couldn't finish it, though that may have also been due to the amount of food and drinks we had throughout the night. The food did take a while to come out, but the service remained good the entire time. We expected dinner to wrap up around 7:00, but we started at 5:30 and didn't finish until about 8:30--there were 16 of us, so it was understandable. Overall, a solid experience, especially for a group event.

You receive a free dessert if you're celebrating a birthday. I would HIGHLY suggest the Mud Pie -- Graeters vanilla, chocolate, and coffee ice cream with brownie chucks on an Oreo crust topped off with honey roasted peanuts. It was almost the size of my 9yo son's head! We also got the chocolate cake and coconut cake (fan favorite). The chocolate cake is served with housemade caramel and is a very deep rich chocolate without being overly sweet. It goes perfectly with a cup of black coffee. The coconut cake is like a vanilla cloud with a hint of real coconut flavor - not that nasty sunscreen taste you often get. The cake pieces were also very large. Kevin was our server, and he was so amazing! You can request him upon arrival, and he will give the Ratatouille experience where you have images of fireworks as he explains the flavor profiles of the various dishes or desserts. We started out with onion rings and meatball appetizers. The meatballs were delicious and came with 4 pieces of toasted slices of baguettes and a dollop of marinara sauce. The onion rings are enormous! They were good; however, I would say the most lack-luster part of the meal. They are served with a side of regular ketchup -- an aioli would be a nicer tough. My husband and I got ribeyes, my sister got the lobster bisque and Caesar salad, and my son got a kids rib meal (very large portion!). Everything was cooked to perfection. The lobster bisque was warm, creamy, and had a little kick to it. The ribs bbq sauce was a tiny spicy, so you may want to request it on the side for the kiddos. Our steaks were melt in your mouth perfect. The twice baked tomato was both crispy and creamy all at once. The overall feel of The Barn is a little more formal than most places; however, people were semi-casually dressed. You don't have to feel like a suit and tie are needed, but I would be shocked to see anyone in shorts and a tshirt as well. Apparently they have an amazing Sunday brunch. Kevin told us about it and at this point, I trust everything he says about food and drink! Speaking of drinks, if you are a bourbon drinker, The Barn has a special blend of Woodford where a team goes down to Kentucky and creates a special blend just for The Barn. My husband said it was so smooth and delicious. While on the top of the Cameron Mitchell chain in both quality and price, it is well-worth stopping in -- even if it's just once in your life. My 9yo son is already dreaming about going back for his very own steak
