We'd been a couple times previously and figured it was "okay" but nothing to write home about. Then the last time (which was last week) the entire experience was completely chaotic. Our drinks took forever to arrive (after the food), and two ladies who'd ordered classic eggs Benedict had to send them back (the whites were very under-cooked and running all over the plate). When they complained to the waitress, the response was "oh, well our Benedict's are always like that" - so they basically had to insist she take them away and get cooked ones.... Which took forever and the rest of us were finished our meals by then. Hey, rejected or uncooked dishes SHOULD get some priority, but not in this place it seems. When the new Benedicts finally arrived the yolks were solid, so apparently the kitchen had decided to over-compensate and punish those nasty folks who'd complained... but by then we were past even mentioning it. Heck, how hard is to poach an egg anyway?? The entire service experience was amateurish at best, with dishes delivered randomly so we never got any feeling of coordinated service at all. Maybe the waitress was unhappy that we we'd sent back complete rubbish. My own "daily special" sandwich (I don't remember the name) was also very forgettable and I ended up leaving most of it. When I asked for the check, the waitress took forever to produce it - clearly she's not suited to the role. Then, when I went to pay the check (which has to be done at the front counter!!), there were 4 other folks all waiting for somebody to take our money. There was some unknown issue with one checkout, and nobody on staff seemed to have a solution (nor were they particularly concerned), but eventually we all managed to get the checks paid and able to leave. This whole non-standard way of paying checks is simply chaos in itself - whoever decided it was better than a table-side checkout must have been smoking something strange. Totally chaotic mess in every respect... not a place we'll bother visiting again. Why it seems to be quite busy is a complete mystery - undoubtedly only because there isn't much else around to compete with. Epic fail. read more

Nice breakfast ambiance with no waiting time. That was great for us because we were hungry and had a long drive back home. Service was quick and our waiter had great suggestions. The place is usually full but today we arrived a little earlier and it we got seated right away. Our server was very friendly and the food arrived quickly. I had the avocado toast, it was very simple but I enjoyed the simplicity. Bread was slightly toasted and it came with a lemon wedge which I appreciated. I wish I had ordered the basted eggs as they come since the scrambled eggs were very plain and stiff. The multigrain pancake was good. Big shoutout to the million dollar bacon, it is all you expect and more. Slight peppery taste, sweet, and crispy. Must get if you like bacon. read more

I'll start out by saying I've eaten at the First Watch south sarasota location probably 5 times and everything was excellent each time. This location, not so much. The fresh squeezed orange juice, and the Belgian waffle were the only thing I really enjoyed. My over medium egg request came back as one hard, and one medium eggs. The bacon was barely fried. My wife's scrambled eggs were overcooked, and potatoes were undercooked. Our server, was attentive, but very mundane if you know what I mean. I witnessed other servers laughing and talking with their customers, while seeming to enjoy interacting with them. So when you receive your check, it's not explained, but you need to take the check up to the register to pay. While up at the register, it took almost 5 minutes for someone to come up to check us out, even though not extremely busy. Anyway, the food, service, and ambience at the South Sarasota location is much better in my opinion. read more

We live north of Manatee and don't venture down to Cortez Rd often. But with it being off season, we decided to have breakfast after our morning beach walk. Spurred on by a BOGO text, we remembered why we always enjoy our First Watch meals. Our server was Acacia and she was so pleasant and helpful. Food is simple but good quality and generous portions. We easily managed to get a table for brunch without any bookings on a late Sunday morning. The menu is pretty large and there was also an additional special summer menu (where my wife found her dreamy French toast ). We tried some of the unique juices that served their purpose of being healthy enough to make us feel better about the day before and also being very tasty. The place has a great ambiance, and the servers were both professional and fast. (I actually do not like waiting around for a cheque and this was provided as soon as we were done with our meals.) My first visit to First Watch! The servers were so friendly and they serve coffee right away, and cream is on the table. which I love. I had classic eggs, were perfectly cooked and about 4 slices of bacon. Everything was delicious! Prices are reasonable and our food came out quickly. Both of our meals (eggs Florentine & carne asada hash bowl) were tasty and very good sized portions. It was quite a busy Saturday morning, so it took 40 minutes to get our food, but the kitchen staff and wait staff were hustling. Our server Julie was polite, knowledgeable and gave fabulous suggestions and honest tips when we asked. The coffee was just okay, but the morning meditation juice was so yummy and the pomegranate sunrise was delish! We also can recommend the seasoned potatoes. The ambiance was lively. We were quite impressed that the restaurant doesn't have a microwave! Went here on a Sunday around 1pm and there was a 25 mins wait but we ended up waiting around 35 mins. There isn't a lot of benches to sit outside and wait but there is a Homegoods next door that I ended up going and browsing! The menu had a lot of items on it so I opted for a healthy turkey omelette and an acai bowl. The acai was very sweet- I prefer unsweetened acai purée because the toppings make it sweet. It was a bit too sugary for my taste but it was still good enough to finish! The almond butter toast was alright. I wish the bread was more crispy rather than soft and cold. The turkey omelette was standard, nothing special or stood out. It came with slices of tomatoes which I thought was interesting. The prices were not cheap but not overly expensive. However I did feel like for the taste of the food, it was a bit overpriced. read more

Previous breakfasts have been very good. Last Sunday we had a party of 8 and both the food and the service was very poor. 5 out of 8 meals were undercooked/cold. Some were returned..meals came out at all different times..partial meals . Simple things like butter for pancakes were brought 20 minutes after request. Waitress was nice but not efficient.Totally forgot to bring basics to table..coffee cups, water. We politely talked to manager and he reduced the bill by 15%. It had been a while since I've been to First Watch. My past experience had been that their food was always "dry"--lacked a sauce, a little grease--something to give it better flavor. I ordered the Farmhouse Hash and it was the perfect combination of potatoes, tomatoes, bacon with avocado, cheese and perfect over easy eggs. Other tables around us (perhaps other "sections") were seated, served coffee, etc. We must've been in a crappy section. I ordered yogurt, fruit and granola. The menu explained it as fruit layered in vanilla yogurt with homemade granola with almonds. It was tasty, but it had exactly 4 half strawberries and a handful of blueberries on top. That was it. Still a fan of First Watch I've never been disappointed at any of the First Watch locations and expected another great visit. Had a great visit, highlighted by great service. From holding the door open to welcome us to offering us a convenient table, quick coffee, and being ready to take our order when we were ready to order, we got off to a great start. A few requests we made during our visit were handled well. I got what I often get at First Watch's, their Parma Hash. It is a potato based skillet with sausage, cheese, mushroom, onion, tomato, maybe more stuff, and a couple of eggs on top. It comes with a few pieces of fruit and a thick slice of bread. Delicious, a few burnt pieces were noticeable but didn't really detract from the overall dish. The end of the visit was just as good as the beginning, upbeat and friendly, with the check being dropped off shortly before we finished eating. We left full and pleased with our choice. read more
