Hungry Man Breakfast - biscuits and gravy, 3 eggs and home fries

Great, local joint that has been around for 60 years. Surprisingly, it was our first visit and it did not disappoint. We popped in on a Sunday morning and waited a few minutes before being seated. Coffee was hot and fresh. Service was spot on throughout the visit. My husband ordered the Hungry Man breakfast. The biscuit and gravy was loaded with sausage, but he thought the gravy was a little on the gritty side...didn't stop him from polishing it off! I ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage which came perfectly toasted with eggs, loads of sausage, peppers, onions and cheese. In addition to the standard menu, there is a huge list of special (pork roll benedict!!). Prices listed are for cash payments and they are very upfront about the additional charge for credit cards (3.99% to cover their service fees).

Nice old fashion dinner, the service was friendly and the place itself needs to be updated, the food was good.

Eggs Benedict

Man, so disappointed. Eggs benny is my fav and this place has multiple types but I am old school original. Well it should be two English muffins, Canadian bacon, and a poached egg on each with some hollandaise sauce and a couple dashes of paprika. Unfortunately, these were soggy English muffins, a large slice of what appeared to be country ham spread across both muffins with two eggs that appeared to be cooked in a muffin pan, sorry very over cooked eggs with a good drenching of.....um a hollandaise sauce that was a darker shade of yellow indicating it was definitely not fresh daily or overcooked based on color and texture. Then a bit too much of "old" paprika. Not sure if the grittiness was part of the hollandaise or the old paprika. Potato's were mid but did include a 1/2" baby pancake....no I didn't eat it. I didn't have any syrup . Anyway, for the $20 bill for that breakfast and a $2.45 cup of coffee I will need to look elsewhere for a quality breakfast. As a positive the customer service was great and the servers are very attentive, kind, but def stretched thin which garnered my restraint to return the breakfast and ask for corrections because it did not appear anything would change and I didn't want to add to their frustrations. For a simple breakfast eggs, bacon, taters, and toast the prices were not bad and I feel no doubt they could produce. I think the biggest issues here are the multiple specials and options. Sometimes less is more.

This place does not look like much at all... it's a hole in the wall diner, but when you walk iN you are greated with great service and it's busy! You may have to wait a few for a seat but it's worth it! We ate here 3 out of 5 mornings for brunch!!! French toast, waffles, pancakes, parfaits, eggs, meats, omelets... all the yummy goodies!!! Also priced GREAT!!! GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, GREAT PRICE!

We did have to wait on the food a little longer than I would prefer with children BUT once the food arrived it was great!

Ask the Community - Cortez Cafe

Does this place serve any Bloody Mary's or Mimosas? Wondering if they have a liquor license. No worries if they don't.

I've never noticed anything that looked like a bar here so I would guess no. But next time we have breakfast I will pay closer attention and ask our server

Is there outside seating?

Yes

The Toasted Yolk Cafe knocked it out of the park with the Southern Fried Arnold--hands down one of…read morethe best breakfast dishes I've ever had! This creative twist on eggs Benedict is pure Southern comfort food heaven. It starts with two fluffy, perfectly split biscuit halves as the base (way better than the usual English muffin for this vibe), topped with crispy, hand-breaded chicken tenders that are golden, juicy, and seasoned just right. Then come two impeccably poached eggs with those runny yolks that ooze out beautifully when you cut in. The whole thing gets smothered in rich, creamy country sausage gravy that's loaded with flavorful sausage bits and has that perfect peppery kick without being overwhelming. Every bite is an explosion of textures and flavors: the buttery biscuit, the crunchy-yet-tender fried chicken, the silky eggs, and that savory gravy tying it all together. It's indulgent, hearty, and ridiculously satisfying--exactly what you want when you're craving something over-the-top for breakfast or brunch. Served with their hashbrown casserole (which was cheesy, crispy-edged perfection) on the side, I left stuffed, happy, and already planning my next visit. The atmosphere is bright and welcoming, service was friendly and quick, and the portions are generous without feeling excessive. If you're anywhere near a Toasted Yolk location, do yourself a favor and order the Southern Fried Arnold. It's not just breakfast--it's a mood-lifting masterpiece. 10/10, will crave forever!

Service: Seated within a minute, drinks in another, food in ~7 mins--impressive turnover time. Melissa was upbeat, cheerful, and attentive. Ambiance: Noon crowd lively but not overwhelming.
