We were meeting friends in town this afternoon who were in Bradenton for a wedding. We decided on Lucky Frog since I enjoy German food and their vegan options for my partner. Located in a shopping plaza, this little restaurant didn't disappoint. Upon placing our order, food was brought out promptly! I ordered the pork schnitzel with the cream sauce on the side, with a dumpling and my partner ordered the potato pancakes, with bread, salad, and the cabbage. Everything was perfect. My schnitzels was perfectly fried and not greasy. It cut beautifully and very flavorful. My favorite was the dumpling. Served in a broth and melted in my mouth. My partner equally loved his meal. The pancakes were fluffy and light, and he fell in love with the cabbage. I ordered the strudel with vanilla sauce with a side of fruit for dessert. You could tell it was fresh and warm. Went well with the coffee. My partner appreciated the side of fruit that came with it as I gave it to him since no dessert is vegan. The vanilla sauce served with it was over the top. It wasn't sweet and complemented the strudel. The interior was cute and you can tell the owners take pride in their heritage and the food they prepared. The service was very attentive and checked in several times during the meal. It will be one of our go-to's when we are in the Bradenton area. The lunch menu was reasonably priced if you just stick to that and not order more than one side dish. Sides were a little pricey as we ordered 4, but I felt we received a meal as if we're were in Germany. I also attribute the prices to higher food prices in general. Lucky Frog is a great little place for authentic German food. I will definitely be back with my brother as he is always looking for great German food. read more

We stopped by for an early dinner(4pm), and had a wonderful experience. All the food was delicious and made fresh to order. Service was top notch by both the server and the chef. While it wasn't the best German food we've had in the area, I definitely wouldn't mark this one off the list of places to go. The only thing that made it fall slightly short of others we've had in the area, is the use of some canned ingredients compared to fresh ingredients. The mushroom sauce was the only thing that was noticeably from canned mushrooms. Don't let that stop you from giving this place a try though because the food was really good and service was amazing. It's a nice little restaurant with some German flair decorations in the corner of a plaza. The floors were very clean and shiny too. Looks like they were recently waxed. Looks like it was maybe a bar and grill at one point and converted to this German restaurant about 10 years ago, they said they just had their anniversary. Such a cute little gem hidden in the corner of a strip mall. Family owned (though recently changed hands to a new family who just moved here from Germany). All of the employees were very kind and attentive and the new owner came to greet us. Our food was great. The schnitzel was so yummy. My husband really enjoyed the German potato salad which is a first. We didn't get any pictures because we were so busy eating it all up. I've been to this place multiple times. In fact I've reviewed this place before. This is a quaint little German restaurant that is owner operated and he is also the chef. He makes everything on the menu himself and boy is it good! Born in German he trained in France. This place has about 14 tables and is open Tuesday thru Saturday. They serve beer and wine only. Lots of German beer for sure! We had an appetizer named Grimms snack Plate which was marble rye, tomatoes, onions, chambre cheese, muttwurst and liverwurst. I've never been a liverwurst fan but it was delicious! For dinner I had the Kings Favorite. Which was beef roulade with red cabbage and Spaetzel . Delicious. Also served with a small greens salad. They cook their red cabbage with cinnamon and it is so good!! Hubby ordered Jaegar Schnitzel (hunters schnitzel) with a Lucious mushroom sauce and Spaetzel and a side of red cabbage. He really enjoyed it! The service staff are headed up by the owners wife and everyone is so friendly and efficient. It's about $35 to $ 40 a person if you include beer or wine. read more

Even Better I made a return visit today after 3 years and had the same thing for lunch. Our experience today was even better, and that's saying something. I loved the food last time. I'm a big flavor kind of a guy and this was a big flavor meal. The meal I had was called Lions Meal, and consisted of a Bratwurst, German Potato Salad, Sauerkraut, and a few leaves of greens with dressing. All of it was excellent. For me the bratwurst didn't need any mustard at all, it was already moist with standout taste, no need to mask it. The warm potato salad appeared simple yet also quite good. The star of the plate was the kraut. Nice place, big windows, very clean, all the stuff I wrote about last time still holds true, even about the water. While I thought the don't drink the tap water get bottled was a temporary situation back then, it was still the case today. Lucky Frog cares about your health and bottled is better for you. So, what made this visit better than the last? Even more interaction with our server. It wasn't busy, so we enjoyed taking more of her time than we probably deserved just chatting about the food, the restaurant, and even Yelp. A very enjoyable visit. read more

Delivered food was not great.... Was referred to this place as very good German food but my experience was disappointing. Ordered the beef rouladen with spaetzle and red cabbage. The spaetzle was tender and buttery but the red cabbage juice had leaked into it; kind of ruining flavor. Red cabbage itself was very flavorful and the lettuce salad good. Unfortunately the beef rouladen was very dry with watery gravy and not very good. I do eat German food on a regular basis at several restaurants so not a newbie. I may try again someday in person (not takeout) but probably not soon. German place on AMI much better and consistent. read more

Incredible German Food!! I had the roulade & it was incredibly delicious! My grandma & mother would make this & I carry on the tradition... BUT-- The Lucky Frog really made it so much more delicious than anyone! Oh!! And the homemade spaetzle !! Incredible! Within 15 minutes of entering the restaurant I was reprimanded by the hostess/ waitress twice. I was given a talking to because I walked in and stood by the door without announcing myself (I did ask the chef if I could go ahead and sit down, rather than standing). I was told that the next time I come in I must let her know I want to be seated ( I'm used to being greeted when entering a restaurant, sorry). Next, I said that I would like the sauerbraten (I like sauerbraten a lot) for my dinner--wrong thing to say. She instructed me that I had mis-spoke and that next time I must say I want the "Queens (sic) Heart", which describes the complete entree. Next time, next time, nexte zeit. Jawohl. Did I mention that I really like sauerbraten? This is why I came tonight. The chef's sauerbraten is excellent. It comes with spätzle and red cabbage (rot kohl). We had one of the all around best breakfasts ever! I Waitress was extremely helpful with suggestions because we had it narrowed down to - All Of Them! We ended up with the Spinach Quiche & Cinnamon Roll French Toast. The Quiche was full of Spinach & Feta - the crust was out of this world! 1st the food is 5 star worthy. It was some of the best German food I've ever eaten. We ordered several different items and every one of them was delicious. The desserts were very good as well! My 4 star review represents the staff. They were very off putting to start with. They seemed to lighten up as the night went on. However, my suggestion would be to allow children to share an adult plate without the $5 fee. We personally would have ordered more food but would have incurred the $5 split charge. This quaint little spot is an absolute delight. Owned and run by a friendly German family this is going to be a must visit anytime we are in the area. From the moment we walked in the service was attentive and friendly. Like the name suggests there are plenty of frog themed decorations to be found and a nice little story behind the name. The menu had a good variety of gluten free options for me and plenty of vegetarian options for my wife. The food was outstanding, we are big fans of German food and this might be the best German restaurant we have been to. The star of the evening was the Sauerkraut, potato pancakes and the Cheesecake. The entire course of the meal our server was incredibly friendly and helpful. She offered up conversation about Germany and the flavors of the food and was an absolute delight. Anything we needed was taken care of near instantly and I can't think of a better experience we have had at a family run spot like this. We made a recent trip to Bradenton Florida and had lunch at this great German restaurant. The service was perfect and the food was delightful. I ordered the "Princess Island", which was chicken strips served with a mushroom/ cheese sauce and spaetzles...delicious! My husband ordered the "Queens Heart' which is Saubrauten or braised beef marinated with wine, vinegar, berries & spices, and served with spaetzles & red cabbage, It was "excellent." I am writing this review after I just left the Lucky Frog. The previous reviews were really good. But no one mentioned that this place is very very pricey for what it is. For a small breakfast sandwich and some fresh fruit I paid $10. That isn't even including my drink. The bread that my sandwich was on was so dry. The waitress told me (the best she could, I don't think she really knows what I was saying to her) that it was supposed to be toasted. It really was just a dry roll. She took my roll back with my swiss cheese melted on it. Said they'd would toast it. I told her "don't worry about it. I don't care for for it. " She didn't understand me. Then I hear my plate go in the microwave and they nuke it to warm it up. Then she brings it back out to me with a couple pats of butter. The picture looks good but it's very deceiving. I paid more for this meal than I do at my favorite breakfast cafe named after a wildflower in clearwater. They tried hard but I think maybe too hard. Some of the fruit on my plate wasn't even ripe. My cantaloupe had no flavor. I think they should really take a look at their prices. $10 for a breakfast sandwich you can get down the road for much less is ridiculous. I wouldn't have mind paying that if this breakfast knocked my socks off but it totally missed the mark. read more
