This is one of our very favorite Italian Bistros in all of Sarasota! The food is delicious, from the Parmigiana's to the soft pillowy gnocchi's that melt in your mouth! When I say this thing was delicious I regret it doesn't emphasize enough about how good it was!!! The frosting was perfect. The cookies were perfect! This is another hidden gem. Located in a small strip along Washington Street, with ample parking in back. Old world Italian - from the beautiful aroma streaming from the kitchen to the small but classic menu, everything is traditional Southern Italian. Family owned and if you speak Italian, you won't need an interpreter to converse with the owner! If you're looking for huge portions or family style, this is not your place. If you want fresh delicious, home cooking - this is a hit. The interior is warm and cozy - very appealing. Service was excellent throughout. Bread bag was fresh and warm, with an herbed olive oil for dipping. First bag is free, then $4.50 for extras. Our group of four ordered Bruschetta and Caprese to start - both super fresh, and delicious. Entrees included the Veal Marsala - excellent sauce flavors over a fork tender scallopini. The linguine Vongole was loaded with fresh clams and both the red and white sauces were good to the last mopped up drop. The Linguine de Mare was full of fresh seafood, tender and delicious. The Tiramisu was ok, but a nice ending to a delicious meal. Corkage was $18 and vintages are missing from the wine list - normally I'd deduct but there's no 4.5 option. Sent an email advertising special - meatballs & spaghetti. Picture looked very good, so we booked for Saturday night - early. When seated, we were told the advertised dish was unavailable- before 6pm!!! Evidently, a customer had dined there the night before & called Saturday- was having a party & wanted 24 meatballs. They obliged this customer, & then had none for their reservation customers!! This is insane & hard to believe- 24 meatballs are not enough by a long shot for a Saturday special. They offered us sausage & spaghetti instead. No interest. Ordered from the regular menu & food was just ok. Gave us bread & about one teaspoon of olive oil!! Wine list poor - first bottle served was turned & had to be replaced with a so-so substitution. Wine server ( the owner ) speaks NO ENGLISH!!! They've been in Sarasota for many years, & he's too lazy to learn English??? Another couple came in, was told about the no meatball situation, spent a few minutes with the menu & left. Obviously they will not return. We will never return either. I don't think they will be able to stay in business. They don't know how to run a restaurant. I ordered the Veal Saltimbocca which was prepared with veal medallions topped with prosciutto, cheese, and baby tomatoes along with a glass of Chianti. It was very nicely flavored. My girlfriend ordered the Shrimp Diavalo on Angel hair pasta along with a diet soda. Both were nicely presented, but Angie felt the dish could of been a bit spicier. (Note: She likes "hot" food.) We finished with coffee and split a Cannoli dessert- three on a plate drizzled with chocolate. The total bill was $97 plus a $20 tip which was reasonable. Food was sort-of-good...one order was fine one was not Service was good Ambiance was good if you like to make friends...it's one small room with like 8 tables 12 inches apart from each other so you get to know your neighbors and hear their stories whether you want to or not. The not so good dinner was a burnt lasagna that we should have sent back! But because of the close quarters and 12 inches away neighbors we felt funny about complaining and my wife just decided to eat from the un-burnt area and leave the rest...we would not go back I don't think. read more

Very accommodating in getting us a table. Loved the food. For appetizer we had clams and shrimp sauté which was very good. The was plate was great and went very fast but the bread hadn't made it out and I would have loved to dunk my bread on the sauce. We also had a couple of caprese orders with tomato and mozzarella. Very fresh. For dinner I ordered the linguine seafood in red sauce. It was good. My wife had Eggplant special which was very good. Everyone had a good food experience. We enjoyed a couple of bottles of Italian Chianti. Reasonable and tasty. The waitstaff needed a little prompting but we're trying hard and we're nice. The vib of the restaurant was good but the tables are very close to one another and it limited your private conversations. I was with a group of 2 couples, We were 50/50 on the food rating. I ordered the saltimbocca that was over cook and very salty. I request a side of pasta instead of vegetables and received a small portion of spaghetti with a bland tomato sauce. My wife ordered the ravioli and was very pleased with it. The other couple ordered the seafood risotto which was under cooked, the rice was very hard, and the other dish was Linguine Vongole, that was cooked perfectly. The only dish we complained about was the seafood risotto as it was uneatable. Instead of offering to prepare another dish, they offered to take the price of the risotto off the bill. Got the feeling they wanted to close early. Our waiter did a nice job considering the kitchens failures but we didn't feel any love from the rest of the staff. We will not be back. read more

NONA IN THE KITCHEN - AND IT SHOWS! Looking for an amazing meal, stop reading and book your reservation here! This is the best Italian food in Florida, period. So let me qualify: 1. I'm in the foodservice business and get to eat at the finest restaurants in the country. 2. I'm American-Italian, and grew up with Nona and Grampa Tony making Sunday dinner...I know amazing authentic rustic Italian cooking. 3. I'm from Jersey, where Italian eateries were a cornerstone of our culture growing up. 4. I (and my entire family) love to cook and frequently can be found slicing garlic at 7am to start our gravy. Ok, pedigree out of the way let's get into the review: Let's start with the family, all of whom are Italian, in the kitchen at D'Corato and absolutely warm and loving people that just pour into their craft. And making family meals, is their craft. The restaurant is beautiful inside...it feels like an eatery you'd find somewhere off the coast of Amalfi. Cozy, clean, warm, without being pretentious or 'try hard'. You find yourself surprisingly at home, comfortable and completely immersed in community. What is dinner like here...well for our party of 8, it was an un-rushed, belly swelling multi-coarse culinary experience. We started with real Italian bread (you know, crunch exterior/soft airy interior and actual flavor) that was baked just for us and served fresh out of the oven. This was served with a wonder EEOV that had been seasoned and was bursting with flavor. We didn't just get a balsamic to dip in, Vincenzo made us a balsamic reduction that was to die for. Vinny's mom went to work preparing a stuffed gnocchi sautéed in butter, and served in a spinach/Asiago garlic sauce that was so over the top we literally fought of both of our orders. This dish alone would have put 99% of Italian chefs to shame. It was light and fluffy (as a handmade gnocchi should be) but the sauté added a toasty texture that when introduced to the sauce left us pulling up videos of the last batch of homemade gnocchi my family made and wondering "wth did we do wrong lol" Wine selection was fantastic and likely deserve a separate review by someone better versed than I. In short, whatever they recommend, drink. Entrees were Saltimbocca, Veal Marsala, Veal Parm, another gnocchi dish, porcini ravioli, and a couple of others....I tried every plate. Several of the dishes are not on my personal favorites they are Italian classics. It takes real stones to even put them on your menu. Omg!!! My mother and I quote "best Marsala I've had in my life" Both daughters (9 Gnocchi & 5 Ravioli) were finished with their adult plates in minutes. Annabella (5) says "These Ravioli are the best at a restaurant, they are even tied with mommy's." I tried them too, didn't want to sleep outside or I would have corrected her, those Ravioli were better than my Nona's! Everything fresh, everything perfectly seasoned, every dish 100% authentic and exactly how it should be. My Saltimbocca was the best Saltimbocca I have ever had. Period. Better than Jewel in Jersey or Family Tree. Better than the Italian club in Dallas (sorry chef Giovanni I love you paisano)....AZ, CA, NC, OR, IL, pick a state...this was....the best. Ever entree was just as good as the last, or better. When desert and coffee time rolled around we were so stuffed, we could t say no. BTW every plate went back to the kitchen spotless, no one left anything. 8 Italians, 8 spotless plates damn near licked clean. Cappuccino and and all 3 deserts were a must try...followed up by a pallet cleansing house made lemoncello. Desert was, again homemade, authentic, and world class good. As was the coffee. We had the tiramisu, a pastry who's name I can't recall, and this almond cream cake dish that all of us are still talking about and trying to find recipes for days later. We had to go and pay homage to the family, respect due where it is earned snd d'corato has all of my respect. In summary: Food: 5* Authenticity: 5* Vibe: 5* Service: 5* If this place was in my neighborhood I'd eat out 3-5 days a week! Sarasota, if you don't LOVE d'corato, you don't love real Italian. Well...I have mixed feelings about this place...Yes it's cozy (sort of). Service was good. Ambiance was good. The food...oh, it's pretty good (although the eggplant parm was a bit burned) but let's set that aside as an oversight in the kitchen. It is an extremely small dining area with tables 18 inches apart...in fact so close that we made friends with our "next table" neighbors!!! My Cernia was pretty good although a bit pricey at $35 bucks for a fish filet with a few baby clams, mussels and shrimp on top and 10 to 12 pieces of pene-pasta. Wine was fine at $8 a glass (had 3 total) I guess I'm glad we tried it, a new place for us to visit for a special night out before the Van Wezel concert...but we won't be back. Too small and feel cramped all around (sat at a table in the middle of the room) and for an $89 dinner for two ($105 with tip), I expect the food to be on point, not for half of it to be bitter-burned; and if you burnt it...make another one, but don't serve it to a paying customer, especially one who is a foody and who usually writes reviews as he sees them...be it good or bad...kind of like I see this place, good and bad. read more

My guest had the spaghetti diavolo, $26.95 which was good also, service was good but there was only two other tables being served. I just don't understand why the pasta, which is the least costly part of the meal is such a very limited amount. Prices are just so out of proportion at all restaurants, for the menu selections, especially since many of the items have come down somewhat, menus selections should reflect that. Check menu prices before going. A small amount of pasta shouldn't be so expensive. Managers should reconsider the amount they are serving so customers get a better value for their money. read more

The restaurant is very small and feels claustrophobic - literally wanted to leave just because of this. The food was good overall. I ordered the gnocchis with the rose sauce which was over salted so I spent the night downing water. The wait staff was overbearing and I felt like he was trying way to hard for a tip. I do feel they were overpriced considering bruschetta was 12.95 which should have been more like 8.95 at most and the entree dishes were small considering the price. Last we had a restaurant.com gift card which we were told wouldn't work because they don't except them on Saturday or Sunday this really was disappointing considering that's why we even went there mind you this wasn't posted or written anywhere.
