I have mixed feelings about CasAntica. The staff was friendly, they have a great patio, the bruschetta and bread service were tasty and they had a good selection of wine. However, the main course, Veal Piccata was not very good. The veal was thick and had a texture that was a bit unpleasant. Also, the sauce was very pungent and salty. I'd give them another try if I find myself in the area but would steer clear of the veal. read more

Well been walking past this place for about 4 years coming out of the garage and going to about 40 other restaurants I have reviewed here on Yelp. (I park and WALK back to the MainStreet and other Restaurants. We then see the show and I come back to this garage and pick up my GF, bride, Mistress (smile)) Love the decor. Happily greeted at the door. A little quiet in now the off season beginning. THAT is no problem, but I worry for local business always. The service and "zone coverage" wait staff was exceptionally efficient, speedy and attentive/suggestive. REALLY well done. Wine for the boss at $10.50 a glass, not too bad, I went with Pellegrino for ~ $7/liter. I wanted a little spritz of cranberry or a mocktail since I am not a beer or wine guy and don't drink "soda" pop/Coke/Pepsi garbage. They said they don't have cranberry juice or mixers because no liquor bar. Need some thoughts here for a lemonade, some kind of juice (fruit or vegetable??) The Bufal Caprese mozzarella and tomatoes app was nice to split. We had asked for bread even before ordering the app and had hoped it would have arrived with this app with its oils and seasoning, but it came later and with about 2 tbls of marinara sauce, no butter or oil or etc? There was some comments about bread and getting with an entree or something I forget the whole thing. Also some issue with NOT being able to order a side without also ordering an entree? I guess many don't need a big entree and just have an appetizer and maybe a few sides and they are satisfied. My issue is with this there were ZERO entrees that were 'vegan' or vegetarian or non animal product, oiled, or cheesed?? So my go to would have been a vegetable side and maybe a salad....... 7/10 My wife chicken marsala was very tasty but the chicken was a bit tough, maybe she has spoiled us all by making hers by beating the chicken very nicely OR we get better chicken product at our home. 7/10 My mushroom ravioli in red sauce was a VERY flavorful sauce and the pasta was nice and fresh, not sure I got a good taste of the mushroom insides but the texture was good and it was a good dish. IT was a bit oily and salty for my taste but ok. at $26.95 it was around $3 a ravioli (I am a little tongue in cheek on this quip) but it was kinda expensive. 6/10 We had a tiramisu to split that was a perfect size for exactly that purpose. It was a VERY good tiramisu. We would have loved to have seen a gelato option as less "sleep" inducing/carb loading for the play and a bit better for us, but we enjoyed this dessert!! 9/10 All in (food, tax, tip) it was about $80 per head. A wee bit expensive but very enjoyable. Would like to see a vegetable / light pasta dish and some sides or options with less oil and salt and vegan friendly. read more

My husband and I had a blast here! It was the most authentic Italian food I've had in a long time. And it's in a cute cozy house so you feel like you're visiting grandmas house for a home cooked meal. We loved the chicken parm, the lobster ravioli and the side of vegetables was even delicious as it was sautéed in olive oil and garlic. The service was top notch and authentic. We got to practice Italian with the true Italian owner who is from Rome. It doesn't get more authentic than this! We will be returning and then I'll post pictures! read more

Fabulous choice for a romantic dinner on our last night in Sarasota...literally a block away from our hotel. It's a cute little house and a few rooms with tables on two floors. Not sure if it's handicapped accessible but it was very quaint. We were seated upstairs and at first the only ones in the room but another table was seated next to us. We shared a bruschetta appetizer and one of best I ever had. The bread was so good and the topping was perfect. Not too toasty and just delicious. We had the Cesar salad and the anchovies came on the side which was appreciated since I didn't want them. And the dressing and the shaved parm was perfect. I had a glass of house Malbec and my dining partner had the Pinot noir. Very good and generous glass. I had the pasta and bolagnases and my partner had the veal Marsala. We both tried each others dishes and both amazing. The portion was large and I couldn't finish it. It's a heavy dish but it was perfect. Selected CasAntica because it was close to the Van Wezel and had good ratings. Located in an old house - the food and service were excellent. Jorge was our waiter- very friendly and helpful!! I have a dairy allergy and they were very accommodating. I had the Pollo Al Marsala - it was excellent! My wife had the Bolognese, she loved it! After asking several folks, was told the place was nice with good food, got there and they acted as if we were aliens, attempted to sit us damn near in the lobby with lights right in our face with clearly viewable free tables open. When asked if we could go to the next table not 5 feet away, we were told it was reserved, the place was closing in less than an hour. It was a cold welcome as soon as we hit the door, won't recommend this place or ever attempt to dine here again. I'm not an alarmist but soon as they saw my family I would have felt better if they just said that we don't serve your kind. Terrible attitude from start to us walking out. Our driver then goes on to tell us that they're not popular and its not the first time he's heard this about this place. If you're a dirt bag, just be a dirt bag. This restaurant is very cozy inside and a nice patio seating area. Overall the food was delicious and we all loved our meals however the portion sizes for the price was extremely disappointing. Beer and wine only and definitely a family run and fresh made to order meals. We got bruschetta and a Caesar salad to start, both were great. The Bruschetta was a good portion of 5 pieces however the Caesar salad was $13 for a small side plate sized salad which is ridiculous. Our entrees were all delicious but the portion size for the price was also little disappointing. The pasta was a good portion but the $25 veal dishes were 2 smaller pieces of veal with no sides. My brothers veal parm was actually only one piece with a lot of sauce and cheese. He said it was really good but he left hungry after a $25 dish for a singular piece of veal. Overall great food, we basically left nothing on our plates which I can't decide if it's because it was delicious or because it was such a small portion. I'm so confused on how to rate this-It was supremely awkward. Felt like I was a child having dinner at grandma's house with awful ill-fitting decor, dim lighting and a somber melancholy ambience. It's an Italian restaurant but everyone speaks Spanish, Spanish music but Italian food. I felt like I had to "be on my best behavior" during dinner with company or else I'd get put in a dingy dark corner of the restaurant in "time out". Got seated in a front inside room among 2 other quiet couples. No one talked. It was SO UNCOMFORTABLE! I wanted to leave immediately. My date & I were whispering our conversation & got nasty looks from other diners when we would laugh. It totally sucked. Such a painful dinner with almost zero service from Victor, who did not check on us at all or provide adequate explanation of menu questions, just would repeat description on the menu and look at us like, "Yes? Got it?" The lighting is awful and at one point the candle on our table started burning down and dripping wax all over the place; No one addressed it except for a sneaky hand around the corner to snatch it off our table and extinguish it. No "hey sorry, let me get this..." or "Excuse me". Nothing. So we finished the remainder of our meal in the dark. Expensive and not worth the atmosphere- at all. Delicious food but you almost wanted to inhale it just to get the hell outta there. Save yourself the painful awkward dinner & go 1 block over to an establishment with more LIFE! Food was delicious. Caesar salad won't disappoint if you enjoy greens with your meal. The only downside is it's not a full bar just beer and wine. My husband and I dined at CasAntica last night before a show at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. We like to arrive early and have a drink at the bar. Unfortunately the bar area was closed due to a large party. We sat in a quaint room off the bar area. This restaurant is in a 1926 historic home. Now to be honest the young woman who greets you seems a little gruff, get past that! She was a very competent server and very efficient and she is very nice! Your meal starts with a basket of fresh crusty Italian bread served with a dip that was a tomato, oil and garlic mixture. We usually ask for butter but did not need to with this spread. I had the bolognese sauce on homemade pappardelle. It was delicious! Just the right amount of tiny pieces of tomatoes, a sweet flavorful sauce with plenty of tender beef topped with fresh shaved parmesan. The pasta was cooked perfectly. My husband had the Pollo Saltimbocca with a side of spaghetti with garlic butter sauce. The Saltimbocca sauce was delicious. A perfect mix of butter, white wine and their sage delicious sauce. Topped with prosciutto and mozzarella. The chicken was a little dry but that did not ruin the dish. We were very happy we chose this restaurant for our pre-show dinner and would definitely go back! Quality of the service  and friendliness you provide to customers sucks.. I orders bread to my table three times, one because my muscles came out with no bread.. on the 4th n 5th time I was charged $2.90 each time  I have the receipt (as u stated on Google review I was charged once).  Your bread is 3x3inch  bread cut in half then slice into 4 quarters and of those 8 slice u come up with, you service 3 of them in a basket for two people! Seeing how you Nickel and dining patrons of wheat yeast and water, makes since why my friend disliked her meal.. obviously the quality of ur ingredients are also Nickle and dimed.. in ur defense i did like mine..  The friendliness professionalism and speed of service sucked! It took forever to get water refills and food brought to the table.  Don't waste YOUR time here.  There are farrrr better restaurants in downtown sarasota. This restaurant is so unique. Is is quiet and romantic. My fiancé and I walked in and were seated by our wonderful waitress. The staff was extremely helpful and very quick with their service. The wine is fantastic and pairs well with the pasta. The pasta is so delicious. I am lactose intolerant and they had many options for me. We definitely recommend this establishment! read more

The food was (mostly) delicious, but the service had me wishing I went somewhere else. We had a horrible service experience on a visit here in May. The owner/manager did not speak English so we were told. She seemed not to care that there was a problem with my friend's meal - overdone steak. "Nobody else complains" is not an acceptable response. "Sorry" is free to say and doesn't cost a thing. If I travel to a foreign country for a long weekend, I learn how to say please, thank you, sorry and bathroom - I expect this person in charge of a restaurant in the U.S. to be able to work that out. Instead we were treated like an imposition rather than a wanted guest with a genuine issue with an entrée. Sadly, we will go elsewhere from now now. What a shame. We really wanted to have an amazing time at this charming house converted into a restaurant. We wanted to sit outside but there are no fans on their patio so we opted for the rooftop. This is a charming area but then the experience went downhill from being seated. The wine list has vintages of white wines from 2016 which we figured had to be that way because the list has simply not been updated. With COVID we realize restauranteurs are not buying any new wine at times and trying to deplete what they have but this list and what was brought to us to try before buying was frustrating from a guest standpoint and a pain from a server standpoint I imagine. We finally settled on a white from California that was not even on the list. A sauvignon blanc that was okay but by that time 10 minutes had passed and we just wanted to eat. We had ordered the carpaccio and it was delicious once it arrived. It took almost 25 minutes to make just that. Really? We could not imagine what the delay was as we were one of 4 tables on a Friday night. Sad, so slow and such potential. I have so many recommendations that could turn things around in one week. What an absolutely fun evening!! The restaurant itself, is in an old house, that made to feel like you're in Italy. There's an outdoor seating area, the inside, as well as the upstairs and a private room. The owner and his wife were so interactive and came out multiple times. Everything that we ate was freshly cooked and prepared. Everything we ordered, which is a lot, had amazing taste. You could tell that all of their pasta with homemade. They had a calamari dish served over arugula, that was not fried, but sautéed. It was so different and so much fun to eat. We had homemade pasta, we had an amazingly prepared steak, salad, homemade soup and more. The personality of the waitress and the owners shown through, throughout the evening. By far one of the best Italian restaurants we've ever been to. We were greeted immediately by friendly people! I mentioned it was our anniversary and we got the best table. Very romantic. Ate dinner last night, was not crowded at all, yet they seemed like it was. Seriously our table of 4 & a mom behind us w 2 children who were basically finished. Only saw 1 other person sitting outside with us. Inside tiny but had maybe 3 tables. They acted as if it was crowded. Food was tasty, but small portions and sides were extra. Got the bill which was almost $200 and they charged us for a bread basket, seriously it had 4 very very thin slices of bread. Had to request butter 2 times, they forgot my husbands 2 glass of wine. Told us ice machine was not working well, so only got 3 cubes. Slow service and could not figure out why, seemed empty.
